It annoys me that people think pentagrams are for satin. It's a pagen symbol.

Correct. It is the inverted pentagram that is used in satanism, but even then it will occasionally be used in pagan rituals.

QUESTION. I NEED HELP. In The Bible, it states many things that should and shouldn't be done. Leviticus and Tim and others say lots of stuff like oh a man shouldn't lay with another man, can't wear clothes made of more then one type of material, fornication is a no-no. But Did Jesus/ God say any of those things? did Jesus tell these guys who put it in The Bible? Or did these guys just assume they could make some rules because they were rolling with The J-man. I might have gotten a few things wrong here but I'm not very familiar with The Bible. Can someone clear these things up for me? GIF. unrelated.

I think they originated from the fact that it was, back then, better for them. For instance, they couldn't eat lobster because back in those days you would ******* DIE if you ate a lobster. Similarly, pork, and a lot of the time, beef were unsafe. Wearing 2 cloths might make you more vulnerable to parasites or maybe just a social standard that was put in. The reason these things made it into the bible is because religion WAS the law so if there was a law it was in the bible.
And like tomthehippie said, Jesus only really established 2 rules that void all others.
Hope this helps you not be ignorant.

As I said, I'm not at all very familiar with The Bible. So you'll have to forgive me if I sound like a dumbass. These people were talking about gays and **** and said "it's in the bible, it's wrong." The other said, "so what, Jesus never said anything on the topic, and he didn't write the Bible, men did." So of course I got curious.

Well, if we're going to say that the writers of the bible would LIE, or MAKE STUFF UP...then what's to say they didn't make up the entire ******* STORY?
So, god MUST have said all of that.

A lot of laws were only meant for certain groups of people. Most of the ones in Leviticus were meant for the Levites, and others for others.
#96 to #70 - tomthehippie (07/02/2013) [-]
Jesus stated that there are two laws that we should follow, and that any law that contradicts these laws isn't one we should follow.

1, Love God, for if you love God you will not sin against him
2, Love your fellow man, for if you love your fellow man you will not sin against them
User avatar #117 to #96 - smittywrbmnjnsn (07/02/2013) [-]
Sin.
You can't say "two laws", then have those laws contain a variety of other laws within them.
That's like saying "The US has only 1 rule: Don't brake any of our laws".
#229 to #117 - tomthehippie (07/03/2013) [-]
I didn't say that, Jesus did.

And no, completely different. Tell me, can you murder someone out of love (not talking mercy killing)? How about rape someone out of love? Steal from someone out of love? Beat someone out of love?

Please, tell me one thing you can do wrong against someone, something that truly hurts them, that isn't good for them in ANY way, while acting out of love for that person?

#231 to #230 - tomthehippie (07/05/2013) [-]
And that has what to do with what I said?

Nothing.

Please, try to stay on topic and don't just throw Hitler's name out there because you have nothing better to say.
User avatar #232 to #231 - smittywrbmnjnsn (07/05/2013) [-]
He did, what he did, because of his love of god.

You could easily kill a person, because you think it was god wanted, and if god wants you to kill them, it is out of love of them, that you send them to him.
That's murder, but in the confines of loving god, and your fellow man.
#233 to #232 - tomthehippie (07/05/2013) [-]
And yet, how can you murder someone if you are acting out of love towards them? You know, the second law that I quoted?

In the future, try reading the whole comment, not just the one part that you can jump over and try to say ******** about.
User avatar #234 to #233 - smittywrbmnjnsn (07/05/2013) [-]
You're not reading what I'M typing.
You murder the person, because god wanted you to, and you love the person enough...to send them to god.

Wrong-o!

First, as a Christian (who originally called themselves "Followers of the Way", referring to when Christ referred to himself as, "the Way, the Truth, and the Light") Christ taught that one should NEVER use violence, "if someone strikes you on one cheek, offer them the other".

Second, that is sociopath logic. Murder is a sin, as a Christian you are called to reject sin in all its forms.

But, if you buy that logic, then why don't you kill your mother and father? After all you love them don't you? According to you, if you love someone you should murder them in cold blood so they will go to heaven.

Theres actually a theory that the world before the "flood" was actually more advanced than our world today. That theory also states that there was a comparable amount of people on the planet then, as there are now. So, Gods number could possible be in the billions.

According to typical interpretations, no (though I'm sure there are some Christians who hold that view, with their reasons). Everyone descended from Adam and Eve. The closest we've ever gotten to the original pair was when all humanity except Noah's family was destroyed in the Flood.
User avatar #216 to #23 - lolollo (07/03/2013) [-]
Biologically speaking, incest is only that big a deal after society grew intelligent enough to find it "icky". In reality, incest is no more detrimental to a population than sunlight.

Sure, you have too much of it, you'll get ****** up, but having it happen every now and then doesn't do **** . Human history is full of genetic bottlenecks where incest had to happen in some degree.

No, actually, Adam and Eve were just the foundation for the jewish people.

More people already existed. I know this ''cause I asked my pastor "It's wincest okay?" and he told me that when the Bible speaks of the first man and woman, it means the first jewish man and first jewish woman.

#222 to #55 - mamaluweegee (07/03/2013) [-]
Not really.

As for the "Big Three Religions" (as I call them), they all go back to Judaism. You are correct in saying that Adam and Eve are the foundation of Jewish people. However, because Islam and Christianity, and therefore all its sects including Methodism, come from, at one point, Judaism, they all would believe that Adam and Eve are the first two people. Unless your church believes that Jesus had biological children, as in had sex in order to conceive them, then there are no true descendants of Christ.

Oh and before you go on spouting about how I'm and Atheist, I'm a Reform Jew.
#209 to #25 - anon (07/02/2013) [-]
What in the Bible supports that? Your pastor is preaching some unfamiliar beliefs.

The Jewish people are exclusively descendents of Abraham's son, Isaac. This is the standard Biblical interpretation. There is a parallel in Islam, saying that the Arabs favored by Allah are descendents of Abraham's others on, Ishmael.

Back to the Hebrews. Isaac's 12 sons and their respective descendents constitute the 12 Tribes of Israel. Adam and Eve could not have been only Jewish, because all their descendents would also be Jewish. Noah's genealogy is traced back to Adam and Eve, and therefore the only ones to survive the Great Flood were Jews, while all other people died off?

Adam and Eve are significant for beginning humanity in general, while Abraham's covenant with God is what defines the Jewish people spiritually.

Coming from an ex-Christian atheist with an interest in religion and mythology.
