That's why I laugh when people say that they are going to college for something unbelievably specific. "I'm going to get my degree in micro-organic physiological chemical engineering."

Ok, tell me how the job search goes.

I don't get it... Why did this get so much hate?
In both of the movies Mike's face was covered up or not showed completely, and he reacted the exact same way.
I actually chuckled when I saw that...

i dont think thats the joke
User avatar #86 to #85 - eddymolly (07/01/2013) [-]
It is, they did it in Monsters Inc with him being covered with stickers on a magazine etc
#91 to #86 - anonymous (07/01/2013) [-]
Regardless your effort to be "funny", the joke was that career demands are constantly changing.
Now, in the original picture, Mike is not covered by a flag, nor baloon, or any object.
The user "covered him" with the joke, yet it was not the joke.
Coincidence? Destiny?
Don't know, and don't care, for red thumbs fill me with the urge to post more crappy comments as anon.

It's better than an art or music degree... What a useless skill to have... seriously. Music and degrees are the dumbest wastes of money there is. It's so ******* stupid and useless. You'll never find a job with one. There are MILLIONS of people out there who are just as good if not better than you. Millions. What do you call a music major? Unemployed. What do you say to an art graduate? I want a number 5 with no pickles.
User avatar #71 to #59 - doombunni (07/01/2013) [-]
Many music majors join orchestras and do quite well.
User avatar #61 to #59 - cantfindausername ONLINE (07/01/2013) [-]

User avatar #60 to #59 - nucularwar (07/01/2013) [-]
Music majors tend to go on to become music teachers and classical musicians. Art majors are the fast food folks
#81 to #60 - anonymous (07/01/2013) [-]
Most music majors are delusional and think they can make a living by performing when they can't. Not many strive to become a highschool band teacher...
User avatar #69 to #60 - TheMacDaddy (07/01/2013) [-]
use to* don't know where your from but here in philly they just cut the music department so all those jobs are gone.
#80 to #69 - anonymous (07/01/2013) [-]
I'm glad they cut it. Now hopefully the kids will stop wasting their times with that and learn some actual useful **** .
User avatar #103 to #80 - LoveAmorAi ONLINE (07/01/2013) [-]
Music, art, and such were breaks from the same old "sit at a desk and learn", so it is actually really important in schools. It helps to teach students not only to have outside interests that don't involve their careers, but also to balance the time spent on it well. It gets less time, sure, but typically they make the most of the time spent.
#109 to #103 - anonymous (07/01/2013) [-]
This is why we're falling behind the other countries in academics. We need to focus on important subjects and not stupid **** like music and art. Learn how to play an instrument or how to paint on your own time, when you go to school you will learn real subjects.
User avatar #111 to #109 - LoveAmorAi ONLINE (07/01/2013) [-]
Studies have shown children do worse in school when they only do "useful" subjects. They need a break in monotony. It's very difficult for a child to concentrate on just schoolwork for hours on end.
#121 to #111 - anonymous (07/01/2013) [-]
Which is why the students have recess, lunch, and gym. They do get breaks throughout the day.
User avatar #99 to #80 - TheMacDaddy (07/01/2013) [-]
yes all those useful life skills like how to shoot people, sell drugs, and work the welfare system just like there friends. who would want kids to ever fallow there dreams
#110 to #99 - anonymous (07/01/2013) [-]
Maybe they could actually make something out of their lives if they weren't wasting their time with art and music.
User avatar #122 to #110 - TheMacDaddy (07/01/2013) [-]
This world would be a terrible place without art and music. and many people have made something of themselves with art and music
#126 to #122 - anonymous (07/01/2013) [-]
But even more people made nothing out of their lives with art and music. The odds are not in their favor, they're better off not even trying. They wont waste their time or money on a useless degree.
User avatar #130 to #126 - TheMacDaddy (07/02/2013) [-]
I'm going to give you a little advice, no matter what you do the odds are never in your favor. So if your reason for not pursuing something is you might fail you will never get anywhere in life. for example I just turned in a college application, 40 people a year are going to get into the RN program I applied for and almost 250 people apply every year. so why even bother if my chances are that slim?

You wont win every time but if it is what you love nothing should hold you back from achieving it let alone trying it. you don't have to be a big name producer of a world famous painter to work in the music or art field, there are many jobs you could do you just have to look and work for it.
#131 to #130 - anonymous (07/02/2013) [-]
But this is even harder than most other careers. You're better off going with a reliable source of income and steady work. Keep art and music as a hobby, not a major or career choice. I'm sure you have a backup plan if you don't get into your program.
User avatar #132 to #131 - TheMacDaddy (07/02/2013) [-]
my back up plan is apply to another school. because it is what I want to do and I wont let someone tell me I cant.

As if school wasn't bad enough... they have to make a movie about school? I remember watching Monsters Inc. when I was 14 years old and desperate to cling to my childhood... this new movie doesn't make me feel that way.

I think the point was that their target age for the first mi would be getting ready for/in college when this film comes out. It's meant to be a final farewell to your childhood.

Yeah I'm gonna' be going to college soon, and I'm really nervous.
User avatar #101 to #47 - lolollo (07/01/2013) [-]
You're seriously nervous about college? College is the easiest **** . Don't believe any of the crap your teachers told you about how "It only gets harder in college." You live on your own, so doing things for recreation is only as difficult as physically getting up to do them. You study what you want to study, so you're only taking minimal **** classes before you get to the **** that interests you. You formulate your own class schedule. If you don't want to go to class until noon, you can make that **** happen! And most important, no forced social interactions. You know how there are ******** in high school you kinda HAVE to associate with because of so many restrictions being put in place on your schedule and social life? In college, you can ignore the ahit out of them. For one, the campus will probably be big enough to where I guarantee there's a group of people as weird as you. You can just fll on cut them out of your lives.

Trust me...the quality of your life can only get better from here.
User avatar #48 to #47 - mads ONLINE (07/01/2013) [-]

I think I'll be safe with a medical degree
#31 - dandyhandy **User deleted account** (07/01/2013) [-]
I'm not going to claim anything here, considering I'm only on my second year of undergraduate school (meaning I don't know **** ).

I do, however, know what it's like to see an industry change in a way that makes the knowledge you gained on the subject in college considered outdated. Obviously, almost all industries change in this way. God forbid there be any doctors that use their old college medical books from 40 years ago.

Going to college isn't to learn all there is to know about a subject, and, if you think you are going to learn everything you need to learn about a lifelong career in four years, you're sadly mistaken.

Back to the picture, they found a way to do it without scaring, and they did it while scaring in a scaring facility. Pretty sure that if they hadn't gone to school (and so didn't have access to the children) they wouldn't have figured it out.
