They have. And I haven't played any of them.

If they had confirmed it, the entire internet would have heard about it.
#16 to #4 - chudboy (06/30/2013) [-]
They haven't confirmed it. The only thing close to a confirmation is a leak of all the things they have in development and what teams are working on it. Half Life 3, Left for Dead 3 were on that List, along with Half Life movie. It's still not a legit confirmation by Valve.

As I said in my other comments. It's not a legit confirmation. It's a leak from their database of everything that's in development and which teams are working on the games. They could still scrap it if they wanted to.

But its the small light at the end of the tunnel which matters to me

I know it's going to be made. They have to, with the way they ended Episode 2. They know the fans want it, and they'll make money off it. I don't mind waiting. It'll make it that much sweeter. And if they build a new source engine for it, all the better. Since they built the new source engine for Half Life 2. They obviously want to make it an excellent game, to match gamers high expectations. But a lot of people exaggerate way too much about it. Meaning that some might expect too much from it and just be disappointed.
#26 to #24 - epiclymadguy (06/30/2013) [-]
Thats exactly what i thought, but i guess thats also a reason for valve taking their time they could be worried it may not live to the expectations of their fans and do not wish to let us down. Im sure they wont and ill wait as long as I need to.

I can see them making a great game. But some fan boys going "This is ****** , I expected more". No ones ever pleased.

Valve left us in the dark for almost a decade on the production of HL3. They obviously don't care about their fans. **** valve AND half-life 3.
#22 to #7 - chudboy (06/30/2013) [-]
I think their just building the new source engine. Since next gen is coming out, and might release the game on console. More sales etc. Since they bought out the Orange box on consoles.
User avatar #25 to #22 - kibuza (06/30/2013) [-]
If it took them 10 years to build a game engine, I expect Gordon to leave ******* footprints and bullet casings everywhere he goes.
It doesn't take 10 or even 5 years to make an engine, especially for a giant corporation like Valve. I feel like people refuse to see how ****** Valve is treating it's fanbase just because HL2 was awesome.
#29 to #25 - chudboy (06/30/2013) [-]
I don't see it as them treating us " ****** ". That's an over exaggeration on your part. "Oh they haven't made this game for me and us yet, they're just ****** ". I doubt they want to make a Call of Duty job out of it. Build the new engine. Make the game right. Develop, write the story. You should appreciate how long a game actually takes to make, and what goes into it. Sure, some games are in development even before the first one is released. But other developers might do it differently. Make the first or sequel, then wait to make a new one. Take a break.

It can take longer. Considering Episode 2 only came out 6 years ago. It can take a long time, depending on their situation too. It's not like "Oh hey, we've made a fresh new engine, here you go". The new engine was only confirmed last year. They might not even be half through making it at that point. Half Life 3 Is obviously going to be made. Also, another point. Developers don't cater to you. Their not going to rush a game because you're impatient. They're not going to make a game because some people want it. I know they'll do it, and I'll wait. It's good business for them considering how many people want it.
User avatar #30 to #28 - kibuza (06/30/2013) [-]
It is good business. I never said it wasn't. I just find it hard to understand why so many people will wait so patiently and positively for a company that releases no notices on a game that's predecessor was mediocre to being with.
#34 to #30 - chudboy (06/30/2013) [-]
The half life series has definitely not been mediocre. If you were apart of the game from the beginning you'd understand why. The first introduced a fresh, original FPS, with a twisting story of Dimensions and what not. The second was great, the story was a bit off at times, especially the ending for HL2. But the gameplay was also pretty fresh, even the engine. And I reckon that's what they're trying to achieve. A fresh engine, and gameplay mechanics. And it takes a long time to try and develop that. I'll wait patiently, because there are other developers still releasing great games. Some fans act like HL is the only great game ever. I'll try not to have high expectations of it though, since it could turn out bad. I can definitely wait, since I know developers don't cater to me, on how quickly they should make games.
User avatar #35 to #34 - kibuza (06/30/2013) [-]
I'm not trying to start an argument between myself and you, chud, but you really don't see it as kind of insulting that they told their fanbase nothing about HL3 even though there is no way in hell they missed all these stupid HL3 confirmed jokes and memes.

Also, kind of obnoxious to assume I haven't been following HL since the beginning, which I have. It was a good game. It's been so over-hyped by the internet and people who probably haven't even played the game.
#37 to #35 - chudboy (06/30/2013) [-]
Well you called it mediocre, for one thing haha. I'd never say the series was mediocre. Yes the internet has sucked all the life from it, but I played it before these stupid memes could get their hands on the series. I think that could annoy Valve, or their at least trolling us. Since half of the internet is full of these stupid jokes. Their probably waiting till the right time (when it probably dies down,t he jokes and such). It will make it much more sweeter when it's announced! But honestly, couldn't you figure it out that they are going to make it. It painfully obvious. It's their best series, that's won them countless of awards, so many sales and great reviews. They ended it with a weird open ending. Gabe Newell said last year, a new engine is being developed, and that their waiting for a game to be released with it. For me that's HL3. HL2 was released at, well pretty much the same time as the Source Engine. They are also waiting for Next Gen I reckon, and also their own system. I reckon they will want to release HL3 with their own system.
User avatar #38 to #37 - kibuza (06/30/2013) [-]
I guess. I suppose I am just disappointed that it's not released yet. I was looking forward to it so much for those first few years. Now I just feel like Valve let me down.
#39 to #38 - chudboy (06/30/2013) [-]
Takes a while I guess. Some people have waited longer for some games. Same goes for some bands. One band I like didn't produce a new album for 15 years. And for people who loved them from the beginning must have waited a long time for that album.
