Berlin in summer 1945..in color!!!. .. I have a hard time imagining WWII and before things in color. To my brain, it's like everything before that time was actually black and white.

I have the same problem with vintage cars. It boggles my mind that vintage cars were as common as today's modern cars, and now it's rare to see one in person, let alone one that can even turn over anymore.

I've always had a hard time visualizing stuff from WWII in color, I always just figured everything was all dark and dreary and there was no sunlight because it was war so I never tried to remove the black and white in my mine

<MFW seeing neat **** like this

Actually it was mainly destroyed by the British and American airforce.
Imagine up to 7000 B-17's over your city. The sound they make when they approach. The noise of their engines, the whistling sound the falling bombs make, the hell that breaks loose a few moments later. The city is filled with fire, flying bricks, death and chaos. The women and children in the few basements and bunkers fear for their lives. The remaining HJ-forces are organized to man the anti-aircraft artillery and try to shoot down at least a few of the enemies planes, but even they have to realize that its useless.

The ultimate aim of an attack on a town area is to break the morale of the population which occupies it. To ensure this, we must achieve two things: first, we must make the town physically uninhabitable and, secondly, we must make the people conscious of constant personal danger. The immediate aim, is therefore, twofold, namely, to produce (i) destruction and (ii) fear of death.

but you have to admit the Russians did beat the **** out of that city.

Beat the **** out of whole Germany during the last years of the war...
They retaliated for the warcrimes of the Wehrmacht and the SS by mass-raping german women, massacres and so on. Yes they did beat the **** out of Germany. And then they did everything to Germans the Nazis did to Russians a few years before

You would too, if you were forced to fight because you lost everything and you were forcibly conscripted into fighting. And retreating would result into executions, so you had a **** load of pressure on you, and you were most likely on a one-way trip to Berlin.

ya know when i was a kid, i used to think the world was black and white because of black and white pictures
i'm fairly certain, once holograms become a household thing, kids are gonna think the world, as it is now, was 2D

I always forget that the world had colour before cameras could capture it. I often even try to imagine how it really looked and automatically presume it's black&white.
When I do think about it, it's very hard and I always wondered if it's possible to develop coloured images of original B&W's.
This is very interesting.

How are people able to get images restored into color?

I'm not saying I want the world to go down in flames or anything. I just always like the way ruins look. I wish there were more around.
