It's not like beeing proud to be German makes you a Nazi.

I mean I didn't vote for Hitler. Neither did my parents or their grandparents (who were still children back then.)
The old Germany died, when the allies destroyed it. Our grandparents and their parents used this chance to make a new Germany, where no austrian lunatic can just do as he pleases.

#107 to #92 - rottie (06/30/2013) [-]
Its only because Hitler has been demonized so much by the allies, when i show any English pride i'm not instantly insulted for what we did to Dresden so why should the Germans be insulted for something that happened before they were even born?
also kittens in an SS hat kinda related
#109 to #107 - superduperpuper (06/30/2013) [-]
Ah, I think you are referring to that "Hitler did nothing wrong" **** that goes throught the internet. Well because it is part of our history we learn a lot more about it than the people in other countries (I think in some bible belt parts of America they even just say "hurr durr we won now Europe doesn't speak german") but at that time we did everything wrong. Hitler did everything wrong he was responsible for the killing of millions. He took the lifes of human beeings. He ordered his researchers to perform experiments so cruel that from only listening to what they did a normal person could faint. He ordered young women with arian traits to have children from soldiers with arian traits. (fun fact: Arian = Tall, strong, blue eyes, blonde hair. Hitler = Rather short, weak, bromn hair and eyes.) He was a perversion himself. Nothing more and nothing less. A ******* lunatic pervertet man.

But yeah. Dresden was unnecessary. I mean it was like kicking a man that was already on the ground. But like I said. I didn't vote for Hitler and you never ordered someone to bomb Dresden. Let's not see what we were, but what we are now and how we changed since then. Then we will know where we have to go.

This man is ******* legendary. He does something morally responsible and right and then is almost hunted after by the government while foreign countries take him in and just look at the US like "really? You're upset over THIS?"
#88 to #12 - anon (06/30/2013) [-]
You mean he sells massive amounts of government information to China and Russia, who then takes him in since he's their bro now, then releases parts of it to the public as well before running off to hide behind the guise of a good Samaritan.

Really though, both ideas are plausible enough. If he really was a good guy with nothing to hide, he could have just stayed in the U.S. and had a TON more support domestically and world-wide. If he dies or is jailed, he would be a martyr. He would be legendary, then.
User avatar #38 to #12 - ilovehitler (06/30/2013) [-]
It's hard to say that what he did is right, given we have no idea WHY he gave this information.
And, if I remember correctly, he went to both China and Russia. The countries that likely pose the biggest threats to the USA.
It's possible he had more information to give these governments, and wanted to cause unrest before he gave it over.

I'm not saying he's a bad person, I'm just saying it's hard to say he's really good.
#111 to #38 - captainreposty (06/30/2013) [-]
He gave the information away because he believed (correctly) that the American government was illegally and immorally breaching its citizens personal liberties.
User avatar #333 to #111 - ilovehitler (07/01/2013) [-]
So he says. It's possible to lie, you know.
#41 to #38 - abcdxyz (06/30/2013) [-]
Those countries would be the best places to seek temporary asylum I imagine. I don't know if he sold them any information, but if he had to leave, he could reside there for a short time, while the government lets him in hopes he might reveal something to them, intentionally or not.

It doesn't seem like a bad idea to me at least, especially considering I've heard that he has been staying in areas that are technically international (Hong Kong which is complicated with China, Russian international airport areas), so no government has a ton of pull over his actions at those particular times
User avatar #24 to #12 - bandoslootshare (06/30/2013) [-]
yeah, im selfish and would never do what he did. Morally right ? I'll take the $200,000 a year job and the gorgeous girlfriend over moral obligations any day. #44 to #28 - onewhoobserves ONLINE (06/30/2013) [-]
The maximum penalty for the three things he is charged with is 30 years. That is each thing he is charged with has a maximum penalty of 10 years. It is very likely that considering the nature of his crime (and crime it was regardless of the moral dilemma) he would probably not get the maximum sentence and would likely be convicted of all three but with the sentences all served at the same time instead of consecutively.
User avatar #218 to #44 - gatorade (06/30/2013) [-]
I believe serious treason, such that he is accused of is death.

#347 to #218 - onewhoobserves ONLINE (07/01/2013) [-]
Snowden is charged with three federal crimes: theft of government property, unauthorized communication of national defense information, and willful communication of classified communications information with an unauthorized party. Treason is a very specific thing as astafarianp pointed out. The media is still calling what he did treason but they are doing so because they are the media and they are paid to be hyperbolic and try to make every story sensational not because they are correct.
#280 to #218 - astafarianp (06/30/2013) [-]
Tecnically according to the constitution treason is insanely hard to commit. It only occurs when the following conditions are met "shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort" Article 3, section 3 of the constitution. Basically you can only commit treason when the country is in a DECLARED war with whoever the person was giving aid to.

Assuming he isn't ousting any agents or giving foreign nation information that could potentially undermine our security or turn alliances against us; then yes, he did the right thing.

The fact is, we don't know what information he has or what he's doing with it. Saying someone is amazing without knowing the full scope or consequences of their actions is... iffy.
#81 to #51 - captainreposty (06/30/2013) [-]
If America tries Snowden for treason I'm pretty sure she'll lose all her "Allies" anyway.

The World thinks America is a land where your personal liberties are sold to the highest bidder, and that's not going to improve until you remove your Federal Reserve and remove the corporations from the government.

But the same can be said about us over here in England, I mean, the dirty Rothschilds own our own Bank of England for **** sake. But at least our world standing is better.
User avatar #93 to #81 - effort (06/30/2013) [-]
It's not a big surprise, money is power.
Completely removing the fed, or some big corps won't solve the problem. It may sound bizzare, but the idea of removing the concept of money might solve many things.
#110 to #93 - captainreposty (06/30/2013) [-]
I totally agree.
Replace the incentive of personal gain (i.e. monetary gain) with the incentive of making your state a better place for all and I'm confident that individualism and greed will be restricted.
#312 to #93 - nightstar (06/30/2013) [-]
You can't remove money. Money is just a standardized method of trade. Unless you tell everyone in the USA they aren't allowed to trade with anyone else, money will exist in one form or another.

Individual greed is what drives Capitalism.

You think Obama is horrible for saying those things?
Two people can both stand up for what is right, yet be completely opposed to each other.
What Snowden was doing by standing up for what he thought was right was showing that the government is bad for watching you because you shouldn't be monitored.
Whereas Obama is doing what he thinks is right by allowing the monitoring because he believes it will result in less **** hitting the fan.
Both are right, but are different in how they feel, one is freedom in the safety of being watched, the other is freedom in knowledge that you are not being watched.

Yeah. I don't like firearms, thats why I try to avoid Nestle products. But goddamnit those ******* own like every big german food producers.
I don't really like our politicans either, but if I look at other countries I'm more or less glad we have the politicans we have and not those that they have. I mean no country is perfect, but some could really start to pull themselfes together. I mean look at us. About 70 years ago we lost a war that we started about 80 years ago. We gased, shot and otherwise killed and tortured people because one austrian lunatic /who didn't make it to his favourite school or the austrian army) thought we should. Germany was destroyed and divided. Our grandparents, great grandparents and great great grandparents build this country anew as soon as they saw any chance to do so. Whenever one of the Allies lost interest in something or gave them a part of the country back, then there were people who used this to make a totally new Germany. It's also cool, that Britain and America didn't take everything of their compensation. Otherwise we would still be in the middle ages over here. And now we are one of the few countries who are somehow able to manage our **** . I mean. we complain about our 5-6% unemploiment rate, but the only EU-country that has less unemploied people is Austria. I just don't get, why (mostly German) people don't feel proud to be a part of this country. I mean WW II was inexcusable and the German people that hold responsibility or just like lived here and did nothing (there were many many people that did something. And I don't mean just the persons who are famous for it now. Many people were hiding other people and riked their lives for them. But it's not like I voted for Hitler.

Well there were many unrelated things in this, but I had the flow and thought some of the things have to be told. I for myself would like to live in Sweden. Sweden is cool. When I can get a hold as writer, then I'll move to Sweden.
