I can relate.

I got my results and I only got a pass, which is the 'lowest' form for passing, merit is the pretty good, distinction is literally off the charts amazing.
The girl next to me who did some light pencil scribbles on paper and hung some black canvases, I **** you not. She got a distinction.

Picture related: the **** that got her a amazing grade, I just don't get it

Let me clarify:
First thing: Your pic is upside down.
Second, it's a motive there. It's a shepher girl with a ram at the bottom of a ravine while someone climbs up from it. There's some kind of deeper motive or something there.
Thirdly, it's a recognizable style. It's also a difficult one, which is a single-line PEN, meaning it's non-erasable (I assume she didn't use a pen eraser)

Fourth, though it's sometimes hard to see why art teachers call things good, it's rarely called good without reason. Though there are bad art teachers who got little idea what's good and not, most of them got some clue as to what they're doing.

Pic related, it's spun upside down and the objects made clearer (Though I'm not going to perfectly recreate it. Both because I can't and I won't bother).

It's art, you shouldn't trust a school that uses "passing, merit, or distinction" as grades. **** man, how the **** would you use that in an interview.

My uncle went to art school and he said the only thing they taught him was that schools like money.
