okay so why is everyone looking for this guy?
User avatar #15 to #14 - viscerys (06/27/2013) [-]
Methinks it's because he said the CIA or the FBI or some other American acronym was monitoring you. He was charged with treason and betraying the state and **** . If anyone knows what actually happened, by all means tell me. I'm also curious.
User avatar #16 to #15 - swordmasterredman (06/27/2013) [-]
I never did understand why the u.s thinks that it is okay for them to spy on people in other countries, or why they need to get involved in almost every military dispute that occurs in countries foreign to theirs.
User avatar #23 to #16 - roxasbaby ONLINE (06/27/2013) [-]
I believe one of the main reasons for getting involved in disputes is due to the whole issue with the world Wars. Many of the allied forces were following policies of appeasement in World War 2 and the US's system of neutrality led to us having a very poor navy and air force. This led to Japanese attack on the U.S., and the European side allowed for German rise to power by allowing them to claim land. So basically now the idea is "Stomp out threats while they are still small and manageable."
User avatar #17 to #16 - viscerys (06/27/2013) [-]
They do because they can. They're not allowed, but they're able to.
User avatar #18 to #17 - swordmasterredman (06/27/2013) [-]
If there is a government doing worldly illegal things why is the UN not stepping in? is it were any other country the u.s would be outraged but they believe that they can because they're the "greatest country in the world"?
User avatar #19 to #18 - viscerys (06/27/2013) [-]
What I don't understand is that people have been complaining about the government monitoring them for years, but this Snowden guy comes along and suddenly he's most wanted. (I've no clue about this, so he may have done something bigger. I live in Ireland, not America.)
User avatar #20 to #19 - swordmasterredman (06/27/2013) [-]
exactly, but it seems like the american government is that kid on the playground that wants to beat you up for telling on him for peeping in the girls locker room. (I'm in Canada)
User avatar #26 to #19 - heartlessrobot (06/27/2013) [-]
American government is forcing the press to make people believe Edward is the bad guy.
User avatar #30 to #26 - mylazy (06/27/2013) [-]
Except few of us believe he is. The press can't make you believe anything. They can influence you yes, but in this case their influence does little to cause us to believe he is a traitor. In fact the majority of us feel he did the right thing. In my own opinion though, I was already pretty much sure that the government was monitoring us, so this news didn't matter much to me.
User avatar #31 to #30 - heartlessrobot (06/27/2013) [-]
Always act like you are being watched, because you are.
#29 to #19 - anon (06/27/2013) [-]
Well, most people don't feel he should be treated as a traitor. But the government does. So he is labeled as a traitor.
#28 to #17 - anon (06/27/2013) [-]
Except in most cases our involvement was supported by other countries as well as the UN. So really you should stop talking.
User avatar #50 to #28 - viscerys (06/28/2013) [-]
Okay then.

#27 to #15 - anon (06/27/2013) [-]
NSA, and he let out information about a program in of which the government monitors everyone.

I'm honestly undecided about the issue, I checked the whole thing out, so I could clear up a few things I guess

In case no one knew how the NSA program works, it automatically collects personal data from social media and communication outlets, like Apple and Verizon. It's like a big net, instead of fishing for the information of terrorists, they just stuck a net down there and collected it all so if they did catch a fish(terrorist) they could just pick em out.

Foreign countries are upset that apparently the NSA was collecting data on their citizens, but since internet connection travels around the world, it possible all of that information was obtained within the boundaries of the USA(doubt it though). Most major connection providers are centered in America. (bright side: foreign countries are now starting to monitor their own connections)

I can't say how effective it is, because any incidents involving terrorism cannot be released to the media, so we can't say how many it's stopped
