The director said he chose the newer looking suit to modernize Superman, because out of all of the super hero movies, his character was the only one who was still "stuck in the past"
User avatar #26 to #3 - Redfinale ONLINE (06/27/2013) [-]
odd that he claims that considering that the suit design for the most part is what the "New 52" version of Superman is wearing and as such, has already been modernized. Granted, work on movies starts easily a year or two in advance, so it is possible that it could be the other way around and that after seeing this suit. the guys at DC decided to incorporate it into "New 52"

I think he was simply talking about film and TV versions of Superman, but I'm not entirely sute

I hate it when people misquote movies. It's "Gee, this grew in an exponential fashion."

Yeah he looks like he forgot half his uniform at home this morning

Actual he didn't wear underwear, he wore boxer shorts, like what circus strongmen wore back then, since they were popular during that time.

It only looks like undies because the artist would change over the years, eventually mutating it to look like undies.

It was also good since it broke up the blue. If you wanna see a costume that has a problem with this look up scarlet spider.

its like he made his suit and was like " **** it, i'll just wear a T-shirt with a spider on it whilst wearing a red body suit."

Yeah, and this joke is about two years old for anybody who follows comics.
User avatar #44 to #29 - TheSock ONLINE (06/27/2013) [-]
Apparently they made it like that so kids would get into the comics more, think he's cooler.
Thats what a friend of mine who reads comics says anyway.
But personally, to me, it's not superman without the red

I think it's good they change the appearance of super heroes and modernized them.

Look what 46 years did to Batman.

Well, actually, if you think about it, his suit is made of the same material that was under Jor and Zod's armor, meaning that Kal's entire suit is now underwear.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll, actually it only took him 73 years, as the Underwear over the top went in 2011 in the Comics
#12 - headkicker (06/26/2013) [-]
I suppose logically that makes sense, but do we really care about logic in a Superman film?

Stylistically speaking; the red pants added a bit more balance to the colour scheme of the costume, at least in my opinion.
More than that though is that it's part of an iconic design.
#15 to #12 - jinapayne (06/26/2013) [-]
In Man of Steel he should at least wear a belt like in New 52
