yay paradoxes !
#40 to #19 - anon (06/26/2013) [-]
We all know that would happen because a lot of us knows what paradoxes are, you don't have to explain what happens. We know, its also a comic so you don't have to say the obvios of what would have happend ******** .

Depends on the theory of time travel you're using.

I can fix that.
#53 to #19 - anon (06/26/2013) [-]
Its not a paradox in direct-string or branch theory.

Direct: You went back, now you both cease to exist. Who killed past you? Future you that now doesn't exist. Examples: The movies "Looper" and "Back to the Future"

Branch: You created a new timeline, but now you have to live in this timeline as a new entity. Examples: Most other sifi shows such as Stargate and StarTrek

Pardon the stupid question, but if you kill your past self, wouldn't it create another timeline wherein in the original one you are still alive, and the second timeline your past self was murdered?

That is not a paradox.
A paradox is a statement or event that contradicts itself.
Your story is an event that could not have happened without its own happenstance.
In fact your story is the exact opposite of a paradox.

You've created a paradox. Because you destroyed your past self then there wouldn't be anyone to kill your past self in the future, thus creating a paradox.
#23 to #9 - anon (06/26/2013) [-]
i believe though that it would happen once but then time would be re written and he just wouldn't exist
User avatar #26 to #23 - thegentleluger (06/26/2013) [-]
It is theorized that that may happen- the continium can fix itself- but it may also destroy everything. So it's a 50/50.
#65 to #26 - anon (06/26/2013) [-]
The same Matter cannot occupy the same space, that would create the paradox and erase both from the timelines.
#54 to #9 - anon (06/26/2013) [-]
No... you went back in time to kill your past self and you both ceased to exist at the same time... that is if we are following direct-string theory. There is no paradox. There never is a paradox.
User avatar #55 to #54 - thegentleluger (06/26/2013) [-]
That itself is a paradox, don't you see?
#17 to #9 - anon (06/26/2013) [-]

wel your still being a dick to your past self
User avatar #104 to #103 - sanguinesolitude (06/26/2013) [-]
yeah, but you are killing yourself... so i think that's intentional.
User avatar #64 to #34 - markertemp (06/26/2013) [-]
Some theories state that he'll feel it as he's fading away, because before he's completely erased from existence, he'll feel the pain from whatever damage the hot dog machine caused before killing his past self.
#69 to #64 - sanguinesolitude (06/26/2013) [-]

that seems unlikely. I mean he might suddenly remember pain, but not sure how his future adult self would feel the pain of his dying child self.

either way backwards time travel freaks me out. Forward time travel master race.
User avatar #70 to #69 - markertemp (06/26/2013) [-]
If the pain was great enough, he may feel any scars that suddenly appeared.

Again, it's only one theory.
User avatar #71 to #70 - sanguinesolitude (06/26/2013) [-]
well if i wanted to die and had a time machine. i would go forward at least then you can see the future before you kill yourself. And if i really wanted to die, go die somewhen cool.
User avatar #73 to #71 - markertemp (06/26/2013) [-]
I don't think he wanted to die. Notice the "I don't even care." He was probably just hungry and bored.
User avatar #76 to #73 - sanguinesolitude (06/26/2013) [-]
bored doesnt mean you go back and prevent your present self from ever had existing. He clearly wants to never have been born. Which i suppose answers my own question.
User avatar #106 to #76 - lotengo (06/26/2013) [-]
maybe he did something at one point in time, and he wants to prevent it. So he goes back and kills himself before he does, what ever he was going to do.
User avatar #107 to #106 - sanguinesolitude (06/26/2013) [-]
no i think it would have to be him wanting to never have existed. Much easier ways of stopping yourself from doing something, like going back in time and saying "hey this is you from the future I know you were thinking of doing X don't ******* do it." Killing his younger self removes everything he has ever done from that point on from time, so he ceases to exist in the future. Its like a more complete form of suicide really.
