Being a person with a high metabolism, I never really had to work to be skinny. I never considered myself "in shape" though (something I'm trying to change now by eating right and getting some semblance of a workout routine).

There's much more to being healthy than just being skinny, as I've learned. A lot of people seem to forget that. I know people who are overweight that can outrun me, overpower me, etc. etc.
User avatar #284 to #264 - zakaizer (06/26/2013) [-]
Damn straight, I also have this 'problem', I have nothing on me, but can easily be out ran by a fat person, medically, I'm fine, physically, I need a lot of work.
User avatar #287 to #284 - lucarioveethree (06/26/2013) [-]
I'm not saying it's a "problem", so to speak. Skinny people certainly aren't on the same level of difficulty as overweight people.

It is, however, not the only thing you should aim for if you want to be physically fit. Being a twig is not healthy.
User avatar #288 to #287 - zakaizer (06/26/2013) [-]
That's why I put it in apostrophe's, I couldn't quite figure out what to properly call it, but yeah, just having skin and bone on you is really not good for you, as I've found out
#291 to #288 - lucarioveethree (06/26/2013) [-]
Yeah, it's not particularly encouraging to know that someone doesn't have to apply much force to break you in half.
User avatar #294 to #291 - zakaizer (06/26/2013) [-]
Hell, I nearly dislocated elbow in an arm wrestle with an average guy (Not too fat, not too skinny, not too muscly), there's just nothing there to stop it
User avatar #334 to #264 - Gandalfthewhite (06/26/2013) [-]
sorry for my ignorance on the matter, but with a high metabolism does it affect you from getting more muscular?
User avatar #336 to #334 - lucarioveethree (06/26/2013) [-]
I'm not particularly sure about that. I don't think so, though.

I believe Metabolism only affects how rapidly your body burns fat.
User avatar #337 to #336 - Gandalfthewhite (06/26/2013) [-]
so when people complain about being skinny due to metabolism couldn't they just lift and get hench instead of chubby? surely that's the best alternative
User avatar #339 to #337 - lucarioveethree (06/26/2013) [-]
They could, but overweight people could lift and gain muscle as well.

That's the thing, though. People think being skinny means being in shape. Skinny people are capable of being out of shape.

And I'm not complaining about being skinny, I'm just saying that it has it's disadvantages.
User avatar #340 to #339 - Gandalfthewhite (06/26/2013) [-]
it's kind of different with larger people though because they will still probably have a layer of fat covering their muscles so they'll probably still look chubby like them old strongmen dudes or butterbean (the boxer)
User avatar #343 to #340 - lucarioveethree (06/26/2013) [-]
Perhaps, but looks or no looks, they could probably work someone over pretty well.

I too, have a very fast metabolism, and I eat junk food all the time and I'm pretty skinny. However, I'm still fairly young, and I've heard unhealthy **** will finally catch up to people with fast metabolism around your late 20s...I'm scared...

Same here. 5'4'', 98 lbs, pretty much non-existent tits. I go through a bag of chips like you wouldn't believe and harbor a serious soda addiction. But no one in my family is over 170 lbs (genes) and I have to walk 30 minutes every day to school (exercise) and then again after. So I can't gain weight to save my ******* life.

I used to worry about that. I didn't have a particularly good diet either, until I was recently diagnosed with a Gluten allergy.

Take small steps. Wean yourself off of it. That's always a better plan of action than quitting cold-turkey. Something I started with was no more soda. I drink nothing but water now (well, with the occasional exception of milk or some sort of moderately okay-for-you juice).

**** I'M BOTHERED

You can absolutely be too fat for horseback riding. Its not discrimination, its just fact!

While I am not a fan of overly defined abs (in either gender), they're being just as bad as the people calling the other girl fat!

That is not anorexia or any form of starvation, nor is it unhealthy at all! They look to be in fantastic health!

Just as a side not, I'm pretty sure my BMI has been above average my entire life. I was never huge, but I would say pudgy and overweight for sure. But it seriously is about dedication! These past few months I decided to finally change things for once, and I started running and doing exercise, and if you keep up with it and push yourself to improve, its amazing how quick you start to feel better! I could barely run 1/4 mile without being horribly out of breath when I started, and by the end of my 2nd week I could run a mile at a comfortable pace no sweat. Now I can run 4 miles before I start to feel it. Anyone can change, its just a matter of baby steps, motivation/dedication, and remembering to try your best.

Sorry about the rant... this just got to me

This **** pisses me off, I am fat. I knowledge that, I own it but I am working to get rid of it. last year I lost 100 lbs, from eating less crappy stuff and working a lot. (I was a chef in a kitchen, I was constantly running around and stuff like that) recently I have hit a road bump and have joined a gym, my membership starts on Monday. I will actually work hard for the body free of most fat, not ******* act like what my body is now should be celebrated.

I agree completely with those who say that we should not glorify "fat"...by what constitutes as "fat?"

I know girls who are within the medical range of "healthy" and they are considered fat/chubby by most everyone around them. But then I also know girls who are medically overweight and then people will say that they aren't fat. (And before you go pointing it out, I realize muscle weighs more than fat and those who are considered overweight may just be muscular...but they aren't. They all look their weight.)

I guess I'm just saying that, from what I've experienced, many opinions of what "fat" is are greatly skewed. No one really goes by the medical definition of the term anymore.

People never used fat as a medical term, they used there eyes, thats what theyre for
User avatar #99 to #76 - alreadyexiststho (06/26/2013) [-]
Thats what I'm saying. "Fat" is not a medical term, but there are medical standards for what is considered "fat". However, I've found that the majority of society believes someone is fat even if they are, medically, at a healthy weight, because people put appearance above health in most occasions.

#183 to #99 - themongoose ONLINE (06/26/2013) [-]
Maybe it's easier to know "not fat" when you see it.

The girl on the right is a friend of mine. She's a personal trainer and has competed in bodybuilding competitions. Look at BOSSFitness on facebook or instagram. They post pictures of their clients' before and afters (and their own). Some of the people they train were overweight and some were just trying go from "in good shape" to "in great shape."

It takes work and dedication if a person wants to look good, no matter what level they are at (Including my friend at BOSSFitness. Her before and afters are awesome). If they don't, that's up to them. But they have no place to complain about not getting what they want. This is the reason I am up at 4:45AM every day to be in the gym at 6 and work before 9. It's the only time I can do it. As of March 23, I was 6'1" tall, 186 lbs and 16.97% body fat. I was, in my mind, fat (15% body fat is considered "ideal"), though no one would have ever said that. I am just starting to feel not fat. Today, 3 months and 3 days later, I am 193 and about 15.5% body fat. I've lost 1.5 lbs of fat and gained almost 9 lbs of muscle. I'm giving myself to the end of the year to be 200 lbs and 10% body fat. I feel better than ever. And instead of people saying "He's not fat, but he could lose a little," they say "he really looks great." Someone may not be fat, but we can always do better.
