2142 was really enjoyable, I still have it I think. It's a shame very little people play it, I loved the titan game mode.

and I'm loving it, I missed the chain of command and importance of keeping your squadleader alive (and him making good descissions). bf3 is just a free for all ******** with no decent group action

I've got a way to solve this problem.

The commander only gets points or EXP (or whatever is awarded) if the command causes a positive outcome or victory.

Other players get EXP for executing the order whether or not it does good.

Worried about troll commanders? Not anymore, you have to be a relatively high level to be a commander.
User avatar #20 to #16 - ronyx (06/26/2013) [-]
That could backfire as high level players tend to get bored and just play for ***** and jiggles.
User avatar #22 to #20 - doodogger (06/26/2013) [-]
You can't completely eliminate trolling, but you can minimize it to a big degree.
User avatar #21 to #20 - doodogger (06/26/2013) [-]
Yeah that could happen, maybe lower the commander requirements, but not too low. An intermediate level player is less likely to **** around than a low or a high.
#36 to #16 - Rascal (06/26/2013) [-]
i apologize for answering as an anon but by that logic couldnt troll commanders just make troll orders to level up troll players that follow blindly to get troll experience so they may in turn become that very troll commander?

p.s. i love the idea but it seemed like a flaw that needed to be addressed sorry....Q_Q please dont kill me
User avatar #37 to #36 - doodogger (06/26/2013) [-]
Yes that is possible, but how often would that actually happen? Only time will tell. Like I said, you can't completely eliminate trolling, but you can minimize it to a degree.

BF3 is pretty similar with regards to issuing and following orders to take or defend objectives, but whether or not orders will be followed or even issued is a crapshoot

I play COD often, but I want to get BF3 because it sounds like a more mature game. Plus the gigantic maps, more realistic recoil, aircraft, vehicles, destructible structures, projectiles instead of "scans", and a team emphasis. Like I said I've played it once so I understand why you like it so much. I think I'm growing out of COD.
User avatar #44 to #29 - vicsix (06/26/2013) [-]
Beware of the weapon sway. 2 things in the game that pissed me off and ruined it quite a bit is the way over done weapon sway and the sun glare.

I feared that.

Yeah they should, consoles should just share the same online system.
User avatar #54 to #33 - snowshark (06/26/2013) [-]
Can you imagine the massive DJ 4DM1Nistration issues that would come whenever Microsoft/SONY wanted to make a change to the system that would benefit their own consoles more than the other's? Or how much chatter there would be if you got all the people crying about which console is best in the same game?

What would be better isn't all consoles working on the same online system, rather different online systems being able to connect to the same servers. That way, no matter which console you bought, you could play cross-platfiorm. It would still bring a swathe of mindless fanboy babbling but it would at least connect people.

However that won't happen. One of the biggest factors in video games are the players and if you've got a ton of friends on one console, you're less likely to switch to the other... unless you can still play with them on that other console.

It also brings up issues in terms of communication as people cross-console may have issues sending messages if the consoles use different systems and party chats and the whole shebang.

Very rarely is something as black and white as the consumers want it to be. The XBoner's policies were pretty fair considering what they could have been. Granted, they were bloody awful and I'm glad they're gone but still, they were decent considering what Microsoft were trying to do.

As much as we gamers like to separate things into good and bad, it just doesn't slide that way.
User avatar #114 to #54 - doodogger (06/27/2013) [-]
I don't like it when people try to separate everything into good and bad, wrong and right.
User avatar #115 to #114 - snowshark (06/27/2013) [-]
Yeah. It's naive. Yes, there are two sides to the debate of ethics, wrong and right, but they're contextually guided and it's not binary on-off, right-wrong. It's a spectrum where the decision you make lands somewhere between the two. No decision is going to be the perfectly right one nor the wrong one.

The same is true with most of the world. It's why I dislike a lot of Superheroes. Not all, mind, but a lot of them. Superheroes are built on the concept that there are two sides to the battle, good and bad. But it's the heroes who tread the line like Batman or The Punisher that are interesting.

Batman doesn't actively do bad things but it is arguable that what he does do causes bad things to happen. It causes people to become villains and criminals to become more serious and professional in their conduct, making them harder for the police to catch.

It's those kinds of dilemmas that make good superheroes.

Speaking of Batman, check this out.
#116 to #115 - doodogger (06/28/2013) [-]
It's also those dilemmas that give a plot to a superhero movie lol.

Yeah also some issues could seem good or bad either way depending on how you frame the issue. Abortion for example. Liberals tend to frame abortion as a civil liberties issue, so therefore abortion is okay because it's all the women's body and she should be able to do what she wants with it. Then there is the conservative view which frames it as a human rights issue, where the baby is a human being and as a human deserves the right to be born and live and the mother should take responsibility for their existence and not try to get rid of the embryo/fetus because it is not convenient.
User avatar #117 to #116 - snowshark (06/28/2013) [-]
I stand on the liberal side. It's the same as dealing with a period. Until the foetus gains consciousness it's just a mass of cells.

If it truly was as the conservatives say then every period is breaking that rule.

For those who never played BF2, you're in for a treat with this ******** troll mode.

Back in Battlefield 2 we had Commander.

What usually ended up happening was the Commander sending artillery fire to his own team and dropping a vehicle on the aircraft carrier so he could drive around doing donuts. Oh and when they really felt like it, having a supply crate or vehicle dropped on your head.

User avatar #15 - I Am Monkey (06/26/2013) [-]
BF3 already has a function for giving orders and absolutely nobody follows them. You get points for having people "follow" your orders, so people just spam orders to attack/defend places that people are already in the process of attacking/defending.

There's no way in hell anyone's actually going to willingly follow the orders of their "commander" knowing that they're likely some 12 year old on their parents' tablet.

I'd say Endwar looks as much like BF2, as BF4 looks like Endwar, so it's extremely unlikely BF4 ripped off Endwar. Chances are Endwar ripped off BF2, a game 4 years its elder

In BF2 there was commander.

Your team won't lose if your commander is an idiot. Not sure how it's gonna work in BF4 but in BF2 they can order you to do stuff but you can simply ignore it.

Worst they could do was artillery you for fun. But you had a warning of incoming artillery so you could run before it hits.

It also had a mutiny feature, so you could throw the knob out of Commander mode.

BF4 would probably also have this feature, but then again EA turned into assholes, so who knows.
