Never go into a computer shop or something and make out like you know more than them. They usually are quite deceptive and know more than you, and will see your bragging as a challenge, to sell you the worst, overpriced piece of ******* just to prove that you don't know **** and they are superior.

Source: My friends brother who worked in PC World. They all used to do this constantly. There's nothing more annoying that some pompous basement dweller who has been dragged to PC World by his mother and starts talking down to the employees because they think they know everything.

But if it is in fact true that you do know your way around PCs. Aren't you gonna see it comming that they are trying to sell you ****? Especially in the hardware sections where brand is hardly a factor. and the specs matter. They can't really do that.

If you are there to buy a whole PC, You have no right to talk in the first place. Seeing as if you know half your **** you will build it yourself.

You'd think so, but what he used to do is just let them talk and talk and talk until he figured the guy out and was able to realise a gap in his knowledge that he could exploit.

It was a skill, and the employees practised it. Don't be a smartass is the moral of the story.

Exactly. The employee doesn't want to talk to you as much as you don't wanna talk to him, so either a "No thanks, we're just looking around" when they ask if you need any help or having a decent conversation with them will do. Don't do what most of these ******** would do and go "HURR DURR DO I LOOK LIKE I NEED YOUR HELP. I KNOW COMPUTERS LIKE THE BACK OF MY HAND. GET OUT OF MY FACE. LOLN00B" because that's like declaring war, and the techie guy WILL win if you do that.

yep. Plus a true expert is always open to learning new things. You research the things online, but these guys actually likely build with it. Give them a chance to help you. If they seem like they dont know what they are talking about, just dont take their advice.

sounds like bs to me, i mean if you are smart you are going to check specs and prices on various shops to beging with, not just buy the first thing you are shown, anywys most of the time i talk to pc employess and ask them about something they never know a thing, they have to go an call a manager, that doesnt knows anything neither, so the manager just ask the employee back to check in storage for the info of the article.

I suppose it depends where you go. PC World employees have to know quite a bit about computers because they work for the same people that the customer support people on the phones do. Same basic training, but you can choose to go on the shop floor or go on the phones.

At least that's how I think it works, unless I'm misunderstanding what he was saying...

I walked into a North Korean RadioShack asking for a LCD display that has a ribbon cable output. The designated RadioShack Employee then bashfully smiled and said "We have TVs." I walked past her into the back and dug through the many digital components as she stood over me wondering what I was looking for without saying a word or asking me anything. North Korean guards soon took me back to my home and said they would murder me for leaving my work post next time.

I regularly go into my local have a chat with the guys running it (been offered a job once or twice) and leave with whatever 2nd hand gear they got left with which I make into PC's that I give to friends or have as spares at lans I personally own more computers then I will even need and most times the parts are either free or dirt cheep because they are not supposed to deal in used goods

Go to PC world.

Customer: how much memory does this computer have for download music and stuff.

Employee: Oh it has 2gb of Memory. See.

they think RAM is harddrive space and if you want to get a wireless connection to the attic you need the 40 pound wireless dongles.

well, RAM is often referred to as "Memory", so if the last part wasn't there, it would be a legitimate mistake.
as for them trying to sell you overpriced ****, it benefits them if they succeed.

Generally if you're not a complete turdbag, they don't try to deceive you like that. They don't own the store, they don't get a share of the profits or anything like that. So they don't care whether you buy the expensive **** or not because they get paid all the same. But if you're being an asshat, prepared to be duped purely out of spite.

looking at wireless adapter. bitch comes over hi what are you looking for.
Im looking at the adapter.
Oh what distance do you need one for.
the attic for a 3 story hours.
Oh that one doesnt have a high enough signal for that distance.
you want this one. blantantly overprices ****.
say no thanks. get cheap one. works fine.

its not just customers who think they are know it alls. And they dont need to always be provoked either.

MFW customers act like they know more than me, then ask if they can copy and paste Microsoft Office from their Millennium Edition computer onto their new Windows 8 computer.

You have to admit that on the surface the desktop is pretty simple, or at least seems so. Everything the average person needs is there, and it only takes a mouse and keyboard to use functionally. The intricate and developed system under the clock face, however, is not very obvious and rarely reminds them that it's there, silently doing all the actual work. Or better yet, say they're going to put Windows XP on it when it's a model that HP or dell hasn't even have Windows 7 drivers for.

Yes, they exist. and they're common.

For the new cars your pretty much need an engineer to do the work, as much as they have integrated computers into the system and what not.

As a person who works on computers in my spare time i LOVED going into any department store that sells computers just to act retarded and let someone tell me all about why i should buy some over priced POS laptop. Then i would begin telling them why it sucks and why they have no idea what they are talking about. Douch customer: "No, you obviously don't. You got a lot more to go before you become a mathematician."

It was a 70 dollar transaction. the little bitch was complaining about 3 dollars and I was about to tell him where he could find legit ones every other week.
I sent that cunt to the front registers and told the cashier to just decline his ****.
