This actually doesn't affect me because I have never seen Mr Rogers, as I live in Australia.

I was having a good time, then I read this and the smile was instantly wiped from my face and I instantly felt the worst I have felt all week. Thanks a lot.

i think we just found another thing that can bring instant regret and/or shame
User avatar #149 to #96 - thesinful (06/23/2013) [-]
Sorry. That's pretty bad but it still can't measure up to disappointing Mr. Rogers.

That's harsh neighbor.

An old say one of my teachers used was "Mr. Rogers never met a man he didn't like, but he obviously never met you." It left a scar on me for quite sometime

What is the context of this picture? I've often seen it, but I've never known if its a " ******* HELL" or " ******* YES"
#228 to #203 - xthesicnamelessx (06/23/2013) [-]
It's more of a ******* yes. This is the coach of the mexican soccer team, Club America. He was celebrating a missed penalty from the opposing team during penalty shootout. He is very passionate as you can see lol.

Oh hells yes. Standing in the rain, in his suit, cheering, probably not paying a single bit of attention to the rain at all. That's passion.

actually it's a show made for kids.

So is MLP, but that doesn't stop people from watching it.
User avatar #77 to #76 - iridium (06/23/2013) [-]
It's a different kind of show though is what I mean.
#132 to #77 - coolcalx (06/23/2013) [-]
in an interesting kind of way, maybe it's not all that different. I mean, they both teach valuable life lessons

BELOW IS MLP MATERIAL. DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T LIKE MLP
/RANT END
However I think the themes in Mr. Rogers are a little bit more apparent- of course the letter at the end of any MLP episode teaches a few things, but in the episode itself, a small child would have difficulties finding out themes- sometimes more difficulties than other times.

He was a good example of how you can be religious and not have to shove it down other's throats.

Hell, he was a good example. Period.

We are yet to see a prolific atheist who acts the same way
User avatar #245 to #209 - gardenjustice (06/23/2013) [-]
I'm an atheist, and the only time i've ever had an issue with someone religious is when they try and insist that i'm wrong. I mean, the facts are in our court, but it doesn't make it feel any better. It's like telling a kid santa doesn't exist, and then the kid looks at you and goes, you're going to hell.
User avatar #259 to #245 - lordmoldywart (06/23/2013) [-]
This is how religious debates start, either side stating they have the facts. Neither side has cold, hard facts. The atheists have more explanations for why or how things come to be, most of which are highly likely to be true, but we are still skeptical. E.g. radiocarbon dating, the method we use to determine the age of rocks and fossils is only accurate up to 100,000 years, and even though the big bang is based on some rather smart observations - none of us have seen the big bang and therefore can not say with 100% surety that it happened.

Religious people however, only have faith to go on, and faith is the belief of something without evidence, so they too have no cold, hard facts
User avatar #264 to #259 - gardenjustice (06/24/2013) [-]
You're right, and it's absolutely fine for everyone to have their imaginary friend in the sky who looks out for them every second of every day while they themselves don't follow the teachings of their holy book.
#4 - jimjimmerson (06/22/2013) [-]
maybe the intent was to show people how to act and not show people how to be "religious".
User avatar #192 to #4 - hellomynameisbill (06/23/2013) [-]
Holy crap. What if the entire show is built around the foundations of the term "love thy neighbour" and it secretly exploits Christian values in order to instil good morals into children
User avatar #250 to #192 - jimjimmerson (06/23/2013) [-]
Why isnt that universal!?
User avatar #6 to #4 - maxataxx (06/22/2013) [-]
Yes, but most people as religious as he would try and use the Bible to teach people how to act right, while he did not, making it accessible to more than just Christian children.
User avatar #148 to #6 - cabbagemayhem ONLINE (06/23/2013) [-]
Consider the following: Most people as religious do not do as you stated, and you're taking your entire sample only from people who have.

Let me rephrase that. Not that many Christians care about or even realise that. Some of the most self righteous, intolerant, racist, bitter people i've ever met are deeply religious and use it to justify their prejudice

This. Religion is not the problem. It's just a means to an end in order to fulfill other desires such as dominance and supression.
User avatar #260 to #190 - cadencee (06/23/2013) [-]
Ehh, I've seen dickheads using peoples religion as an excuse to insult people but there is no justification.

He compares extremely education based societies with very strict standards and morals and tough educational practices to America, where we are far more loose on our education and standards as a culture, and says "It's because some dude said we're special". Correct me if I'm wrong, but I just don't .... get it?
