There once was a war in creek where a king wanted to kill poseidon(the water god)
So he got alot of people to start stabbing the water with swords etc...
Since none of his soldiers got hurt he said he won the war.

Dont know if it`s true but still one of the most stupid things i`ve heard

Wait wait wait, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Caligula ever did anything like that, it was Xerxes I of Persia. From Wikipedia:
According to the Greek historian Herodotus, Xerxes's first attempt to bridge the Hellespont ended in failure when a storm destroyed the flax and papyrus cables of the bridges: Xerxes ordered the Hellespont (the strait itself) whipped three hundred times and had fetters thrown into the water.

No, but I assume that the 14 people who thumbed me down for no logical reason are from Europe or America, which I admit is ignorant of me, there are many Zealanders and Aussies on here.

Also, **** Australia and New Zealand, they're ********* too.

I am wondering why my comment was thumbed down. Unless every single person who did would be OK with having their country invaded, they are hypocrites and braindead faggots.
User avatar #133 to #132 - dogwars (06/22/2013) [-]
The fact that countries can be invaded is why war is a really ******* stupid concept when you think about it. "Your politicians offended me/your way of life is different/you believe in a different theory on how the world started, so I'm going to kill multitudes of innocent people who have no idea why they're being killed most of the time! That'll show you." Your comment was probably thumbed down because you were making a somewhat ignorant comment about why people would fight in a war being waged on their homeland as opposed to the original comment stating why the entire concept of war is ******* stupid.
User avatar #134 to #133 - drewbridge (06/22/2013) [-]
Most wars aren't started because someone got hurt feelings. Wars are started because people died/were killed/for resources/land.

“War is where the young and stupid are tricked by the old and bitter into killing each other.”

Yeah, because we all know wars are only started by old people and we're all ******* TRICKED into it, right?
User avatar #135 to #134 - dogwars (06/22/2013) [-]
Most people who fight without fear for their lives are only doing so because they have some promise of an afterlife where they are rewarded for their faith. Muslims have this, which is why they suicide bomb. Japanese Kamikaze fighters did so because they would bring honor to their families, and were promised a high place in the spiritual hierarchy. American Soldiers fight because they are told that they will be sent to the christian heaven (usually), or that it is considered one of the most honorable of deaths to thee American society. All of these ideal deaths were thought of by some old man trying to bring order to society. Most sins are only sins because the church didn't want people doing it. Suicide is a sin because they didn't want the farm hands and other blue-collar low workers with ****** existences to off themselves so they could go to the promised land of heaven. Hell, the entire Caste system and reincarnation ******** in Hinduism is solely responsible to keep anarchy from reigning over India due to radical financial gaps. This all goes back to war; People being promised good afterlives for their service in war by old men (as in hundreds of years old, long dead) sending the blindly obedient to die.

Yeah, I'm SOOO sorry for being SOOO illogical, how silly of me.

You have never met a soldier, ever.
User avatar #138 to #137 - dogwars (06/22/2013) [-]
"I want to have a relatively high possibility to die because my friend said it would be fun." -Said no one ever.
Some soldiers are only atheist after they come onto the field because of some of the **** they see. They're paid by years of service, yes, but that's only because they need money for the time it takes to readjust to normal society.
User avatar #140 to #138 - drewbridge (06/22/2013) [-]
"I want to have a relatively high possibility to die because my friend said it would be fun."
You have clearly never met a young adult male. The mental challenge, physical challenge, and risk and sometimes education is appealing.

If you asked a bunch of soldiers why they were atheist, most would likely not say because of war, most would say because they never believed in anything in the first place.
User avatar #143 to #140 - dogwars (06/22/2013) [-]
"War is where the young and stupid are tricked by the old and bitter into killing each other."
I'm talking about throughout history. War isn't just some new concept that recently came up, where everyone knows for the most part what they're signing up for. Up until about 50 or 40 years ago we still had our more "socially advanced" countries using the mandatory draft system, where there was a high chance that you would get sent to war with only the promise that what you did would help your country further itself, using "Uncle Sam" like propaganda, or religious promises. Nowadays, yes, people are more educated about what you're getting into. That's only a recent development, compared to the thousands of years where war was just pointless fighting fueled by empty promises.
User avatar #144 to #143 - drewbridge (06/22/2013) [-]
Then the quote is only relevant if you live in the ******* British Empire. Wonderful.
User avatar #145 to #144 - dogwars (06/22/2013) [-]
Or Holy Roman Empire. Or China. Or Spain. Or America. Or any country in the middle east. Or a ******* African tribe. The draft is just a modern example. You don't seem to realize exactly how many countries have some system of propaganda to convince people that fighting for it is worth the risk.
User avatar #146 to #145 - drewbridge (06/22/2013) [-]
They don't just sign you up and you go fight, they rip your dick off in basic first. If you make it past months of training, and still want to do it, then they do. You can fail basic, just **** up and act like a misfit, they won't waste their time with you.

How do you think people join the army? Of course every country with an army has propaganda. That's what makes people want to join, going back to the challenge/risk part.

If it's serious enough, people will do it of their own accord and hatred for the country they're attacking. Not really a giant ruse. Unless South Koreans defending themselves in the 1950's was out of blindness and stupidity.
User avatar #147 to #146 - dogwars (06/22/2013) [-]
You just admitted that there is propaganda... yet still argue about the original quote being wrong. What?
A lot of countries don't have basic for months. Most hatred on the other country is imposed by propaganda, the other country hates you just as much and for the same reason. South Korea is also a really ****** example, because the north was being told **** about how the south was bad, and the south was told about how the north was bad, and everyone was just fed **** . In reality, world peace wouldn't be that hard to accomplish if everyone just pulled their head out of their ass and realized that we're all just ******* human beings, no one race or country being the superior.
User avatar #149 to #147 - drewbridge (06/22/2013) [-]
The French in WW2 were obviously tricked into believing war existed and that they should try and save their homes. Dumb french people, there's no such thing as real conflict.
User avatar #148 to #147 - drewbridge (06/22/2013) [-]
You have to be "old and bitter" to make propaganda? Dangit, should've told literally every country on the planet.

Keyword being "tricked". Getting TRICKED into defending your country from invasion. TRICKED into stopping another countries genocide on a people. TRICKED into fighting for freedom of others. Tricked by old people, obviously.

I don't think if the South Koreans responded with hugs and peace the North Koreans would've totally accepted it. Just a thought.

User avatar #150 to #148 - dogwars (06/22/2013) [-]
Usually it's easier to get people to defend than to attack, but essentially, yes. Why do you keep talking about Korea? It was essentially a rebellion. Yes, the french were attacked, but by who now? Men promised high social status and lots of money, tricked by German leaders.
User avatar #152 to #150 - drewbridge (06/22/2013) [-]
No **** . That means they weren't tricked.
Remember WW2? It happened. Yes, really.
German soldiers were not tricked, they understood quite clearly what they were doing.

its not the borders that makes a country special, it is the people and their culture that makes a country honorable. And expanding their borders is just the same as expanding their rich culture and their strong people.

I'm thinking of joining the army but I don't really know what I'll be getting into. I don't want to be a soldier but a telecom technician. I have a co worker who did that and he's the reason I'm thinking about joining the army. He's only 4 years older than me and already living the life I've always thought of. He said he gets close to 40K a year from the military alone from his GI bill and VA plus what he gets from his current job, not to mention he's extremely strong. I have an associates information technology will this help me with a job there? I'm not thinking of going right now but in 1-2 years because I know i would not make it through basic training.
User avatar #108 to #81 - jacksipian (06/22/2013) [-]
basic training is to get you in better shape, as long as you go into it somewhat in shape, you should be fine by the end, its going to kill you at first no matter what. Red phase of basic training is there specifically to weed out the unfit people and get the people who are in shape, in better shape. Red phase is like, 3-4 weeks or so then it gets easier because then youre doing the fun stuff (youre still running and everything too though, dont think that stops). Just work on running a few miles every day, with some push-ups and sit-ups and eventually try to do that stuff with like a weight vest or something (and drink some protein drinks after this too for faster results) and you should be fine. If youre in school (i dont know how old you are) try and do ROTC or JROTC and you will have nothing to worry about. Anyways, good luck, and sorry for the long post

Im turning 21 in a couple days so I'm still really young. I am in horrible shape, but not as bad as I used to be. My plan was to build muscle first then work on cardio but I'm sure that are better ways to go about that.
User avatar #114 to #113 - jacksipian (06/22/2013) [-]
well, one way to do it is to eat a TON of fast food and get fat, then work out a LOT and turn it all into muscle that way youre bulky too, i know some guys that do that since fat is easily turned into muscle, but personally i like to stay thin and work out a lot. I have a weight vest and i regularly go to the gym. If you wear a weight vest and run, youll build a lot of muscle in your legs and it will do a lot for you cardio, 20 pounds doesnt seem like a lot, but it WILL kick your ass, i was in shape and i started doing that and i couldnt walk for the entire weekend when i started. use a weight vest and not ankle weights because those will mess up your knees and thats the LAST thing you want before basic training.
User avatar #121 to #114 - mondominiman (06/22/2013) [-]
I'm quite big right now so I don't need to worry about that. What i do need is to lose alot of weight. I don't really have that much time to go to a gym and even if I did I always feel like others are judging me.
User avatar #122 to #121 - jacksipian (06/22/2013) [-]
you dont need to lose that weight, you just need to turn it into muscle, if you work out a lot, dont be surprised if the scale says you arent losing anything or you weigh more, muscle weighs more than fat. you should try a Work Out World, they're usually pretty good about that, but whatever you do, DO NOT GO to Planet Fitness, they don't have any free weights and the "assisted" machines they do have will end up messing you up more and youll be a lot worse off for having used them. Trust me on that
User avatar #123 to #122 - mondominiman (06/22/2013) [-]
I always thought muscle weighed less, although it kind of explains why the co worker looks like the opposite of me yet still weighs around 270 I don't really know too much about all this kind of stuff seeing as only recently I started working out.

I fully agree. It's hard for people raised in a realatively peaceful society to understand violence, therefore a lot of innocents have to pay with their lives for an ideological war, which hides so much inhumanity in its shadow. This is what happens when u bring war reffugees in your country. It's just a matter of time until the trauma becomes a psychosis. I appreciate the effort of developed countries in trying to accomodate multiple cultures, but sometimes, it's just like willingly trying to brest-feed a rattle snake
