Is this by any chance named after some God of inka/mayan/aztec culture?

I was thinking about that name earlier today when trying to remember the name of the last Inca emperor and the explorer that took over the empire. Apparently i wan wrong, he is a serpent god that the Aztec amongst others believed in. The dinosaur was named after the god Quetzalcoatl

I should learn some more so i can differentiate between the three cultures, but all i know of them is merged together. And that serpent god looks pretty dahm weird and is often seen with wings. Quite a fitting name

If you want some distinctions. The Mayans were mainly in the mountains and their building style was so effective that simple houses still exist today really sturdily preserved whereas the Aztecs built their largest and most astounding city in the middle of a lake.

(They were told to find an Eagle on a Rock with a Serpent in it's talons, representative of their god, to an extent, and they actually managed to find such a specific and short-lived sight. In the centre of a lake. Still, points for not giving up.)

Officially it's more like 'Ket-sal-co-atlus' as it's named after the flying Aztec snake-god which also drops the 'w'.

Actually, considering Cortez brought over the Black Death with him which ravaged the Aztecs past the point of decimation (which is one in ten) and more to the effect of octicimation (eight in ten) it's more like.

Cortez is death, Cortez is desruction.

Cortez is also a greedy bastard but that's beside the point.

No, it's easy. It's pronounced Quetzalcoatlus.
