Idiots. See, Microsoft,.. isn't run by ones. But the Intertubes are apparently full of them.

Yeah I don't care, Microsoft designed the console specifically for DRM functionality and restricting used games, etc. I'm not giving them my money or trust when they flip flopped on their vision the moment they saw their pre-order sales were being crushed by the PS4.
I just hope PS4 doesn't do the same thing as Xbox with their required online Plus membership were as they ask $5 a month BUT only if you purchase the 1 year membership otherwise it will be $10 a month like Live. I wouldn't mind buying 1 year PS+ memberships if they continue their great deals on their store, but now they can just pay less attention to it since it is required to play online multiplayer and in turn the value for Plus diminishes becoming like Xbox Live. Just going to wait and see what my reaction will be. (Pic kinda related.)
I hope all the best for this new generation of gaming, no matter what console you play on.

Ye, I hope Sony doesn't do that either. I don't like Xbox Live or any paid service at all.

Do you all seriously buy into all this conspiracy **** that MS is going to watch you and listen to you 24 hours a day, and everything they say is a lie that they can reverse?

You're making them out to be the devil with power over everyone and infinite cash to waste.

It's most likely because they have plans to make it integral to their system in the future, and this way everyone is guaranteed to be using it for when it becomes integral. I don't like it either, but I do not see how people are so opposed to it. The only real reason to oppose it is because it jacks up the price. If anyone is worrying about MS monitoring them, I frankly think they have a bigger issue. It's the same thing as a webcam.

It's not real. Just baseless speculation some people came up with.

You have the ability to completely turn the Kinect off.

Glad, because it means that they'll sell more boxes and even though I won't be buying either I like seeing companies succeed and give job opportunities to people. Although I am a little disappointed it means that MS can't go through with that kickass family share plan. I had to look that up at three different news sites to make sure I didn't read it wrong.

I take that as a yes.
#195 to #189 - anonymous (06/21/2013) [-]
But they WILL pretty much listen to you 24/7 (because of the voice commands).
Watching, not so sure. They will search your apartment for things to give you ads about though.
User avatar #198 to #195 - yusay (06/21/2013) [-]
They've already stated you have the ability to turn it off.

Are all of you scared of your webcams watching you too?
#213 to #198 - anonymous (06/21/2013) [-]
But it has to be on for the console to work.
User avatar #204 to #198 - animationhac (06/21/2013) [-]
I don't like it. People do watch through webcams and there is tutorials on how to do so. I shudder cause i sometimes use my pc ***** .

what you need to remember is that they are wanking over the idea of "cloud gaming" so unless they say they are dropping the cloud too, they can still find a way to sneak the DRM into the system. else it will be "yea you can play offline, good ******* luck loading a save though"
#185 - matttboy (06/21/2013) [-]
My girlfriend summed this up pretty well by saying that this is like Microsoft has kicked us all in the nuts and then said sorry afterwards like that makes it all okay. The damage is done. They can't un-kick us all in our figurative nuts. What's done is done and it's going to be a long time before they can recover from this.
#184 - bestbeforedeath (06/21/2013) [-]
If that happens then after they already 180'd once then they'll be right back where they started.....

they may as well call it the Xbox 360!

oh wait.... never mind....

*picture semi-related*
#182 - matttboy (06/21/2013) [-]
I've actually been thinking about that. They are still releasing the system with all the **** they were originally going to do. But you download a patch that supposedly fixes all that. But by that logic, couldn't they somehow sneak a reverse patch into a system update and suddenly we're paying to borrow games, and have to be connected 24/7 and all this other this?

I'm not getting the Xbox One. But for those that do: Read the Terms and Conditions on your updates. This may be the one time it can save your ass.
User avatar #187 to #182 - yusay (06/21/2013) [-]
What are you, a conspiracy nut?
User avatar #192 to #187 - matttboy (06/21/2013) [-]
Nope. I just don't want to buy an inevitable piece of **** . I'm getting a PS4.
User avatar #193 to #192 - yusay (06/21/2013) [-]
Both consoles are basically the same thing now anyway.

And I'd classify worrying that MS will suddenly, without warning sneak a patch in that makes you pay to borrow games and have to make you connected 24/7 being a conspiracy nut.
#194 to #193 - matttboy (06/21/2013) [-]
And based on that, I would say that you are the type to quickly slap that title on anyone who isn't trusting of a company for one reason or another when they have good reason.

And no, they're not the same. Sony hasn't gone full retard and done something so stupid and self-threatening that they look like the competition's "special" cousin.

Are you also afraid that any webcam is watching you and any microphone is listening in on you? That's the same exact thing.

Oh yes, Sony has. Sony definitely ******* has, but people forget about it all. They are not your friend. Neither company is your friend. Do you not remember when they said that their justification for setting the PS3 price so high was because "People will buy it because it's playstation"? Sony has been caught with their pants around their ankles just as often as MS have.

And I said basically the same, not the same. Do not misquote. Very similar in hardware, policies and add ons. The only real differences between the two now are what controller you get, the UI and some exclusives. The same difference between the PS3 and 360 now.

What if they planned on removing it from the start, but decided to wait until after the media backlash so as to come off as "understanding and responsive" to the gaming community, thereby generating massive attention towards their console?

Gamers are people who care about playing games and about the gaming industry, and what Microsoft was doing was damaging the gaming industry as a whole. Im a PC gamer, havent owned a console since the ps2/gc. but even i was upset with microsoft, because what they were doing was damaging the industry as a whole, and worsening the future of it. Im glad they decided to stop.
User avatar #166 to #162 - datmoustache (06/21/2013) [-]
You pretty much sum it up. The xbone is a decent console once you look at it. The family share system is pretty cool and its exsclusives are sweet, who here can't deny titanfall looks awesome. And once the fanboys anal gape clears up people will buy what they please and stfu.
User avatar #149 - mrsockz (06/21/2013) [-]
I say to little to late, the only reason they changed things is because they saw how bad the sales for the Xbox were gonna be, so at the last minute they changed their policies so more people would buy it. You really think they cared what the consumer thought? All they want is to get enough sales so the Xbox wont be a total flop and drive their stocks down further.
#148 - rakoravn (06/21/2013) [-]
Here's my horrific opinion

I actually liked the old Xbone concept and sincerely hope that they will change it back...

Yeah i definitely could see it as the future of console gaming. In a year or two cloud gaming could perhaps be the the main way of gaming such as music and movies is today

I suppose that makes sense. I do remember Sony receiving many-a class action lawsuits over the Other OS junk. Legally they were within their rights ONLY because it would still be available if you didn't update the system.

Or maybe after seeing how the Wii U failed spectacularly to be at all noticed by the public, microsoft announced the DRM thing to get the internet angry and generate publicity for the Xbox One's existence. Once everyone knows what it is, they pull the DRM and hope people buy it. Because, hey, free publicity.
