I think all anyone ever wanted was a console with decent hardware, an online store and decently priced games that don't have a bunch of strings attached; just put it in and play. No ******** . The only thing that should be manditory is eletricity and a TV to play it on
A console just like the good ol' ones, but with online play. That's all I've ever wanted out of a console
#83 to #49 - notafunnyguy (06/20/2013) [-]
oh god. our nostalgia is holding us in the past of gaming and making it impossible for us to progress. it all makes sense now
User avatar #225 to #83 - Metallicock (06/21/2013) [-]
It's not even that, I just don't need all the ******** .

Turn it on and play.
Want to take it to a friends house?
Pack it up, go over, plug it in and play.
Want to let a friend borrow a game?
Give them the disk and let them play.

I'm all for new consoles and games, but don't make it overly complicated to try to prevent piracy or get screwed over by Gamestop (who I like btw so **** you). You want a work around Gamestop? ******* sell it online for cheaper, even if it's only $5 cheaper. If they have such and issue with Gamestop, undermine them. They'll make more selling it for a little cheaper. And **** dude, a lot of the games I get require and activation code anyway, so they still get money that way if I buy it used which should make up for selling it online cheaper should they choose to do so.

the kinect makes the price go up. And the ps3 was more expensive than the xbox 360 and that didnt stop the sales, so why should it now?

These are valid comparisons to steam/computer games. There's only one problem: when people play console games, they aren't looking for computer games! If they wanted a gaming experience similar to steam on the computer,.... they would just go on their computer! Why buy a whole new system for that?

Here's a summary of a similar type of justification as the content posted:
Guy 1: Hey I heard you like apples and oranges?
Guy 2: Yeah sometimes I like to eat apples and other times oranges, that's true.
Guy 1: Well guess what? I just made a new fruit that looks like an orange but tastes like an apple! And it only costs 50% more than a normal orange!
Guy 2: ... No thanks, I don't want that.
Guy1: But you said you like apples and oranges! Why won't you buy an expensive orange that tastes like an apple?
Guy 2: Because when I want to taste apple, I go and get a fricking apple you idiot! I don't need an orange that tastes like an apple because APPLES ALREADY TASTE LIKE APPLES!!!

Gaming consoles that mimic the marketing style and take some of the more desireable features from PC gaming? ******* sign me up for that **** ; I don't have the time to get into PC gaming, but hearing about how awesome it is from avid gamers makes me really want to have an outlet for that sort of style/sales on a console, especially if that console costs significantly less that a good gaming rig.

I have a laptop that cost me a grand total of $450 and I can play most modern games on it. I've played Diablo3 at HIGH graphics settings with just a HINT of lag (months ago when I was still playing D3). Don't tell me you can't afford the extra $50 for something that can play games AND do your normal computer stuff on.....
#201 to #197 - jrondeau **User deleted account** (06/21/2013) [-]
I'm a picky ****** . A hint of lag would, over time, make me rage beyond belief. And I (as most console gamers) am not really looking to get into PC gaming as the entire experience is different and tends to take some getting used to (a mouse and keyboard just don't have that same comfortable feel as a controller, you know? I'm sure you've heard the same argument with the disc vs. download thing. The key is to make one become more appealing than the other, and I think the possibility of heavily discounted sales as Steam does definitely tips that in the direction of downloads). If I could stick with a console that can take the best of both worlds, so to speak, I would be pretty damn satisfied. However, I would have to do some prior research to determine if a console had beneficial features or not before jumping on a bandwagon and therein lies society's problem...

well that's fine but then Microsoft needs to expect that those people who already own decent computers (probably at least half of their market share) are not going to buy a system that is a virtual copy of what they already have with the exception of being more restrictive in terms of usage.
User avatar #212 to #207 - jrondeau **User deleted account** (06/21/2013) [-]
Define 'decent computer.'

And again I'll go back to the whole controller vs. keyboard thing. Most people aren't into that.
#222 to #212 - aliksander (06/21/2013) [-]
again $450 (which is about as cheap as laptops get) and I can play most modern games on at least normal settings WITHOUT LAG. $600-700 dollars will probably get you what MOST would consider a 'decent' system (I just happened to luck out and get a great limited-time deal) and that computer will be upgradable, so that when newer/better games come out you can simply buy some components (maybe $100-$300) and you are good to go for another 5 or so years and every game remains backwards compatible! I was able to get even Tie Fighter to work on this computer, and that is a DOS game from the 90's (that's like getting a Super Nintendo game to work on the Wii U). They even sell 'joysticks' that are like console game controllers (though you will probably have to search some to get one nowadays, but I wouldn't know for sure since I don't use them anymore). Why would you want a console that is like that, costs similar money but: 1) is NOT backwards compatible with older games 2) requires you to get online every 24 hours EVEN if you are playing offline 3) Won't be useful or upgradable in another couple of years when the newer model comes out?
User avatar #224 to #222 - jrondeau **User deleted account** (06/21/2013) [-]
Well the extra $100-200 for a good rig + the $100-300 for upgrades for around 5 years = $200-500 (Let's call it $350), which is pretty damn close to the cost of a new console, which most console gamers are more than willing to pay. As for backwards compatibility, just use your old system. But for upgrading though, casuals who spend their time on consoles never even consider such things.

I'll give you the 24-hour online thing though as I never discovered any perks to adopting that sort of system.
#228 to #224 - aliksander (06/21/2013) [-]
alright man, can't say I agree but if that's how you prefer to spend you're money it's your call

There is this thing called Games for Windows Live Marketplace.

It sells all-DRM unsellable games, hey, just like Xbox One was described or even stricter. That's kinda how most pc drm works like.
And guess what: I haven't seen a good deal there. Ever.

I don't feel even a slightest bit bad about the public forcing microsoft to back out of their outrageous policies. Not at all.

I think that Microsoft didn't mess up with the new console, I think they messed up with the way they handled the situation. Microsoft is a HUGE company you would think there would be some professionalism involved with replying to the consumers (don't mean this, like the first statements on everything). Also you would think that, being as big as they are, Microsoft would realize one of the oldest problems with humanity: people fear change.

if there ads portrayed the xbox one's features the same way this guy did there wouldnt be this controversy. it all makes sense now. especially the steam comment.

mabye the custumer wants what he wants. but the problem is that the customer dont know what he wants.. search around, game breaking games and the biggest seller of games did the COMPLETE opposite of what the customer wanted. and sold even more that way!

#86 - demothrin (06/20/2013) [-]
i think ill start off by saying NOBODY likes having to check in with steam everytime you log off your computer to play a game.
and thats kind of what we do want.....nicer graphics, its the whole point of next gen consoles isnt it? next generation graphics i have a dvd player and freeview built into my tv why would i then need the same things built into my game console (dvd i dont mind because now days it sounds like its going to have blue ray just like dvd players used to be a seperate deal during ps2's time) if i have a computer its more convenient to use that with a keyboard and mouse than a control pad to scroll town and type in wordds while searching the internet without having to buy a keyboard to plug into my controller.
Oh and the difference between used games and having to buy them is you have one group of people who buy the game straight off the shelf which gets the company money and the other group who can't afford the game because of financial issues so get it preowned later your system would change this to some people getting it brand new other getting a preowned one then unlocking it on the xbox which no doubt microsoft would get most of the money from and the poorer people maybe not getting the game at all because they are dirt poor. for instance i loved fable bought everyone off the shelf never played fallout so i got 3 preowed loved it and got new vegas off the shelf if you didnt allow people to get cheap games they wouldnt enjoy them so much they get the next one off the shelf brand new not everyone is willing to spend 1/4-1/2 of what ever money they can scrounge up that month to "try" a new game theve never heard of.

steam dose not require 24 HOUR ACCESS
User avatar #138 to #134 - roflerman (06/21/2013) [-]
Steam requires you to have access to the internet to play games and download games. You didn't need 24-hour access for Xbox 1. You needed to be connected ONCE within every 24 hour period.
User avatar #154 to #138 - themasonrocks (06/21/2013) [-]
Except I can play any of my games without an internet connection on steam. Except for multiplayer ones obviously.

User avatar #142 to #138 - buya (06/21/2013) [-]
no just to download not play games. i could log in once, go to offline mode, and never have to log in again
User avatar #151 to #142 - roflerman (06/21/2013) [-]
Yes but then you wouldn't have access to any other steam features like the store or greenlight. The reason why they want you to be connected to the internet with their console all the time, like steam wants you to be, is because they want you to buy other things and use/pay for the services they provide to their Live customers. Like Gold Membership. On Steam, if your in offline mode you don't get ads for other games/sales, which also hurts their business. You can understand them wanting you to be online. And the offline mode for steam requires you to be in access to the internet at least once, so it still doesn't solve the problem for people who don't have internet connection because they can't log in the one time to set it into offline mode.
User avatar #156 to #151 - buya (06/21/2013) [-]
what you say is true but like you say you only have to log in once, and it is also true that i wont see the ads but i have never bought a game through steams adds also you say " offline mode for steam requires you to be in access to the internet at least once, so it still doesn't solve the problem for people who don't have internet connection because they can't log in the one time to set it into offline mode." that is not the same problem I had with xbox one.
User avatar #158 to #156 - roflerman (06/21/2013) [-]
I have bought many of my games in Steam through ads and the sales they advertise, so that's just a difference between us. What was your problem with Xbox One?
User avatar #160 to #158 - buya (06/21/2013) [-]
the 24 hour log in. the problem is choice.
User avatar #161 to #160 - roflerman (06/21/2013) [-]
Do you not have internet connection once every 24 hours?
User avatar #163 to #161 - buya (06/21/2013) [-]
i do but that is not the problem exactly, lets say i wanted to take my box on a trip to a motel that had no wi-fi? and when i want to play console usually anyway is when my internet is down.
User avatar #170 to #163 - roflerman (06/21/2013) [-]
Taking it on a trip would cause problems with the wi-fi and so would the region lock if they were still in place. It would still work if your internet was down but at max for 24 hours, and I've never had my internet down for longer than that but that might not be the case for everyone.
User avatar #174 to #170 - buya (06/21/2013) [-]
yah with that last part if my connection is down it wont come back up for a while but this is all for naught because it changed anyway.
