One does not simply read the books before watching the movies.

I would have thrown a lawnmower at the back of her head.

I really recommend people to watch the movies first!

As the books are really great you will so enjoy the books and the films and not be disappointed by the movies!

There was some dumb bitches in front of me at the theater who were annoying as ****. They obviously showed their love for LOTR, but what really grinded my gears was when the movie was over they were like, "Wait, it's over? theres gonna be another hobbit?! Like, how do you get a sequel from a prequel?!"

Bitch, just 2.5 hours ago you wouldn't shut your ******* mouth talking about how much you loved LOTR, and now you don't understand how timelines work? Please kill yourself.

Just started reading the books eh? Here's something grand the movies left out, the character known only as Tom Bombadil. Enjoy reading the part related to him.

I agree. The movie never should of left him out, he is an amazing character. The only reason I can think of for why they wouldn't is that they knew they couldn't do him justice (not saying that they wouldn't of just that they thought that)

I understand why they left him out.. I mean.. he's cool, but in the long run he was almost irrelevant to the story. Again, cool guy.. just.. unnecessary.

Ha, read that chapter a few days ago, and I knew they would leave a few chapters from the first book off the movies because its kinda slow

Those are some ************* long ass books. You thought the movies were long? ****, that's more than a thousand pages, not including the hobbit.

Dumb bitch ain't gonna read that ****, she's too busy getting her nails done and buying shoes.

I have to disagree. I loved the hobbit, especially the riddles chapter with Gollum. Which I have to say, the movie was horrible at that part and did not do the book justice.

I read the Ringwars-triology in 2 days, but that might only be me. 1000 sites are nothing, tho.

But well, some people don´t even deserve to read it, I guess...

It took me a week but at least I read it, ok?

You were just saying some people don't 'deserve' to read a book.

wtf is wrong with you man. I mean I read the books and loved them, but i'm not going to act like a smug bastard on the internet because of it

If you try reading it again, you´ll see that that was meant jokingly - and was meant towards those people who see reading books as "nerdy", etc and don´t do it at all because they think it to be uncool.

I tried to, but the diction made me quickly lose interest.
I hate to say something so petty and small made me not read these masterpieces, but it did.

The Hobbit was a fantastic book

LoTR sucked, man. I was more than halfway finished with the fellowship, and they were still in the ************* forest. Tolkien was describing every goddamn leaf they passed. I eventually gave up and never picked the trilogy up again.

I'm re-reading the LOTR and The Hobbit to my son simply because of the Supernatural episode where Charlie says her mom reading The Hobbit to her was her best memory. Can't have my boy grow up without knowing who belongs to the name of Gandalf!

I was talking to one girl before I went to go see Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and right when the movie finished.
I told her. "Sorry I was at the movies."
She Replied, "Oh cool what movie did you see?"
I then replied, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes, it was an amazing prequel."
Her Reply, "A Prequel to what?"

Saying "it was an amazing prequel" is still a weird thing to say when you're randomly talking about a movie.

Just about everything in it was an allegory or a metaphor for God and heaven too. Quick example is that all evil was a perversion of good (orcs->elves, trolls->ents, etc)

My favorite pub at uni is called the Hobbit, it is lord of the rings themed. It even has themed cocktails and a life sized aragorn statue next to the toilet entrance. This is a conversation I overheard in there after my last exam.
Girl 1: (referring to the statue) "OMG it's aragorn!"
Girl 2: No it's not.
Girl 1: Yes it is... it's aragorn the grey.
