It's part of the Auckland Island Archipelago. The highest point of which is Mount Dick.

It's like whoever first discovered the island really just hated it...

Hey hey hey, Hamilton is a nice place, but only if you've never left and have nothing to compare it too.

or just buy a really big ranch with a big lake for half the price
User avatar #55 to #46 - newforomador (06/19/2013) [-]
It just wouldn't be the same. There are so many things about the sea that are amazing. One of them being the fact that all you need is a boat (and if you have you an island you're gonna have a boat) and you can go fishing any time you want. The closest thing to it would be a house on the coast, but even then it doesn't have the peaceful seclusion that an island would have.
User avatar #69 to #55 - luiselvergas (06/19/2013) [-]
you can have a house next to your huge lake in the middle of nowhere. liveing would be way cheaper cuz you can actually go to town and buy **** you need... just saying

there's a bay in chile called "bahía inútil", which translates to "useless bay".
there's also a small town called "peor es nada", which translates to "worse would be nothing".
we chileans are funny sometimes, I love it

At first I thought you was pointing out how New zealand looks like a fist, and the smaller one under it also looks like a tinnier fist
User avatar #49 - Rowant (06/19/2013) [-]
I Googled it, and apparently the only thing people do there is crash, die, or fight for their survival for months on end. Pretty appropriate name.
User avatar #23 - TFTH (06/19/2013) [-]
what the hell. I live in a city called Auckland in the north island of New Zealand, and i DID NOT KNOW there was a island below us called Auckland Island, or Disappointment island either. I know on the west side of Australia there is a lake called Lake disappointment. Its just a lake bed so it lives up to its name haha
User avatar #29 to #23 - ironlak (06/19/2013) [-]

i know more about korea and south africa then i do about nz thanks to my teachers -.-
User avatar #67 to #29 - TFTH (06/19/2013) [-]
umm.... ok yea you know that Auckland island is not part of new zealand right? We have the North island, South island and a small island under the south island called Stewart Island. There are also 4 more islands but barely anyone in NZ knows about them, and none of those 4 are Auckland island.

But im not disagreeing with your comment, half our teachers are either from a different country or were taught by people from a different country, so we don't actually know **** all about our own country. And we don't care =D
User avatar #19 - SlytheFox (06/19/2013) [-]
So that's why Madagascar was labeled Disappointment Island when I looked it up on Apple maps.
