my baby cousin had to be in one unfortunately because he broke a bone in his leg. they put babies in these if they damage either leg in any way so that way the baby doesn't start to favor one leg over the other which would cause uneven growth . the cast basically restricts movement both legs and a little up the torso so they can't hurt themselves further or strain the injury. most of the time these are used, it's for a smallish injury not a typical full body cast injury if that makes sense.
