Why can't we all be equals so that way when a individual ***** up we judge the **** out of him/her instead of the whole group

I like how you mention abusive childhood like its something to idolize. Sure you got your ass whooped by your parents. But who hasn't. And does that make you a better person? **** no. All you want is pity.
User avatar #151 to #149 - schneidend (06/17/2013) [-]
The fact that she was able to triumph despite trauma is what is noble. That abuse haunted her for her entire life, though, which may explain her drug usage.

Well, you could probably have it if anybody knew who you were. Cure a disease or invent something. You can't just graduate to be a celebrity scientist. Carl Sagan, Bill Nye, and Niel de Grasse-Tyson had to make lots of public appearances to become as embedded in pop culture as they are.

It might also help if you quit being such a bitter, whiny faggot about trivial things like Marilyn Monroe being popular and beloved by many.
#95 to #94 - anon (06/17/2013) [-]
doesn't stop her from doing all of the things she had done
User avatar #100 to #95 - schneidend (06/17/2013) [-]
Like be a celebrated, award-winning actress? So she made some bad calls and overdosed on drugs, that doesn't mean this modern idea that she was some kind of worthless bimbo on par with a Kardashian any less moronic. Shouldn't the stigma be against JFK for actually doing the cheating? Instead, he is rightfully considered one of the greatest presidents in American history because only petty cunts vilify the dark sides of people who were mostly positive influences on society. ************ Marilyn is just an attempt to be edgy faggot, not to mention hypocritical. Robert Downey Junior was riding high on all sorts of drugs, but because he didn't OD and starred in Iron Man, FJ sucks his dick on a regular basis. I love RDJ, but by that same token I think Marilyn is pretty great, too.
User avatar #168 to #100 - ebperik (06/17/2013) [-]
People are acting like Marilyn Monroe was a saint, which she was not. The stigma should be against both, it's not like she didn't know he was married. Yes, people love RDJ, but they don't sanctify him(couldn't think of a better word). That is a big difference
As if having a bad childhood nullifies her actions. Although I wouldn't go as far as calling her a worthless bimbo, I wouldn't consider her to be a good rolemodel for young women.
This content is about choosing role models. Don't you find it kind of strange that so many people have chosen to idolize a woman that overdozed on drugs and knowingly had sex with a married man. Doesn't look like picture perfect of a feminist, or a strong woman to me.

My best friend is a huge Marilyn fan and looks up to her as a role model, but because Marilyn tried to point out the best of things and tried to stay positive even when it was difficult to do so. This friend also appreciates her acting and singing, as well as her looks. If a famous person has a good, positive influence on someone, let them be a role model to them. You never know.

Well I don't personally idolize eher, and for the exact reasons stated in the content. However, I can see how some girls would because she was a size 12/13. Most models today that we see in magazines and other media can be qualified to be anorexic. I think they just mean it's nice to see a girl with a normal weight to be idolized as beautiful and not anorexic looking models.

I'm sorry but this is so off. Read up on the auction of her dresses (One of which sold for 5.66 million dollars). The mannequins used were shaved down from a size 2 mannequin and still were unable to zip all the way up the back.

I think it's funny how people think that women now are too skinny and that the ideal was much better in the 50s. Marilyn Monroe had a 35 inch bust, 22 inch waist (around 2-3 inches less than the average American woman back then, and 12 inches less than the average today) and her hips were 35 inches. Other icons from the 50s-60s, Brigitte Bardot's measurements were 35-19-35 inches and Audrey Hepburn had 34-20-34. Models today usually have around a 32-34 inch bust, 23-25 inch waist and 33-35 inch hips. Women from the 50's who are idealized still today, were much thinner than what people actually think.
#51 to #22 - hillbillypowpow (06/17/2013) [-]
Sizes were bigger back then. Now she'd be like a six or so.
User avatar #31 to #22 - thedumbledore (06/16/2013) [-]
A US 12/13 is a 14/16 in the UK isn't it? The 'she was larger' thing was wrong, she was actually estimated to be about a UK size 6 or 8. She just happened to have a fantastic bone structure that gave her the 'hips and chest' hourglass look.

Have a look online at some of her dresses and costumes, they are really small.

She had shown no signs of depression or substance abuse in the past, she was a very good woman with a good life. Leading up to her death she DID have relations with the president, and last I checked an investigator actually had (audio | video) recordings of an instance. The FBI archives actually contains an entire section dedicated to Marilyn Monroe's relationship with Kennedy, and her threats to go public with the affair if Kennedy didn't fulfill his promises (marry Monroe).

Some people say "oh that's just a conspiracy", but honestly this is the same exact time as the CIA were conducting the MKULTRA. If you don't know what MKULTRA is, it was a covert operation in the 50s-60s that attempted to create and test the effects of drugs on people and attempt to get behavioral modification they can somehow use. They did their experiments on civilians, one woman was reported getting doses of LCD for months upon months. According to Game Theory (I know, but I'm just throwing it out there) the mysterious Polybius machine could have even been a part of their experiments since it had the same effects as LCD did. But I digress, the government wasn't exactly in any place to say killing Monroe to preserve the president was crossing a line, when they were doing killing and worse to innocent civilians.

Food for thought.
User avatar #34 to #33 - oodlesandoodles (06/16/2013) [-]
There are several conspiracy theories surrounding her death. Some people believe that the secret service had her killed because of what she might have known as a result of her affair with Kennedy

I felt strange as hell at the theatres when watching man of steel.
Scene where he tells off the general and tosses the drone in front of the vehicle and flies off.
I forget her rank. I think it was Lt.
So this female Lt or something chuckles after he flies off. Her CO turns and kind of annoyed goes what? And I quote
"I'm sorry sir. Just think he's kind of hot."
Maybe it was played for laughs, they need that one chick I guess. Maybe i'm mistaken but I though armed forces were a little more steeled than that.

Yeah when that part came up I flashed back to JROTC in high school when we all wore ACUs. The girl from the movie reminded me of the smaller girls in them that looked so cute because the ACUs usually made them look smaller. This really has little to do with the comment besides the fact that the girl reminded me of a high schooler once she said that. Not sure if thats a good thing....

I think the worst mistake they made was when Zod yelled, "Where were you trained? On a farm!" about lois.....mayb she has important info about clark, so Zod wanted to interrogate her too? and didnt Jor-EL told Lois how to make the pod into a bomb? so she has to be on the carrier and the alien-ship......how she finds clark? well shes the heroine,i guess? besides its hard to miss 2 krytonians beat it up, explosions and all....she should've been dark haired, that blonde hair rustled the jimjams

mayb they planned too, but the mind reading can only be done on 1 person at a time?

I can't answer any of those. Yeah, Supes has been having it hard with movies for a long time. Superman doesn't really translate well to movies, to be honest. He needs rapid character development to be a character in a movie, as where in the comics he can just change over years and years of issues, where he's best suited, as opposed to 2 hours. Plus, movies want scientific explanations for everything, which superman just can't explain. He went from jumping to flying out of ******* nowhere, and his heat vision never got explained. They really tried to explain it, and the movie kind of made sense, but it was all just... off.
User avatar #117 to #115 - brockyboi (06/17/2013) [-]
I just really think that there's nothing you can really do with the character. Superman isn't really charming, funny, serious, or anything memorable in the entire movie. Half way through I practically forgot that he was the main character. I mean this guy dies eventually and comes right back to life in a few days, so you can't really use tension or emotion because Superman lacks both.
User avatar #119 to #117 - dogwars (06/17/2013) [-]
It's really sad that the most iconic superhero has the hardest time translating into the movies. Yeah, I forgot who I was supposed to care about really early on. I started to care more about Lois's boss than the main characters, honestly.
