oh, Oedipus!
User avatar #15 to #3 - thunderkrux (06/16/2013) [-]
Actually it's not Oedipus, it's an Electra complex.
User avatar #35 to #15 - cshp (06/16/2013) [-]
Anon isn't talking about the Oedipus complex, he's talking about the actual story of Oedipus.
#51 to #35 - anon (06/16/2013) [-]
But the father gets killed in Oedipus by the son, who then marries the mother.
Here the daughter marries the father, and assume she didn't kill her mother.
User avatar #36 to #35 - thunderkrux (06/16/2013) [-]
Except Oedipus still doesn't really relate that well to this content. The story of Oedipus is the story of a man unwittingly turned his mom into his lover, so mother and son get freaky in bed which is the reason why the Oedipus complex is so rightly named, an unconcious desire driven by instinct to impress or seduce a female for mating in your home environment which could be a motherly figure or your actual mother. Electra is the unconcious desire for women to seduce a male which could be a fatherly figure or your actual father. Incestual mating in social animals happens all the time, not quite as often as you may think, but still rather often. Comparing Oedipus to this content would be like comparing Native American creationism with Christian or Catholic creationism, entirely different planes that explain a similar concept.
User avatar #41 to #36 - cshp (06/16/2013) [-]
Except for that the main part of this content is that a woman married her dad and a main part of Oedipus is that he married his mom. That's pretty similar.
User avatar #43 to #41 - thunderkrux (06/16/2013) [-]
****** Ginny and Harry have a kid, so do Bella and Edward. That's pretty similar. That doesn't make the books themselves very similar.
User avatar #44 to #43 - cshp (06/16/2013) [-]
Ginny and Harry having a kid is not a major part of Harry Potter, plus the non-romantic part of their relationship is not parallel to Edward and Bella's. I'm not saying that this content is a carbon copy of Oedipus, but anon's comment fits. Also, I hope thumbing me down has released some more of your pent up rage.
User avatar #45 to #44 - thunderkrux (06/16/2013) [-]
Pent up rage? Really? For whatever it's worth (which is probably nothing), I didn't really thumb you down. I don't really care about thumbs and besides it's not like one thumb ever really mattered to anyone.

I do have some pent up rage, but it's really more about something unfortunate that is happening with my group of friends I had when I was in high school they're all being douchnozzles and it's making brother really miserable. But that's all unrelated and doesn't really matter. I don't really know why I decided to tell you that or why I'm even questioning myself on it now.
User avatar #46 to #45 - cshp (06/16/2013) [-]
You probably told me in hopes that you had someone to vent to, because no matter what your problem is, talking about it to any other person always seems to make it better.

Ehhh still want to punch someone. That's what I need in my house, a punching bag.
User avatar #49 to #48 - cshp (06/16/2013) [-]
I've volunteered for four years to help teens (ages 12-19) with their problems and punching **** doesn't really help in the long run. Not nearly as much as talking about it.
