Except you don't "total" a company's annual profit to determine it's success. Their annual profits have halved from 5.5 billion to 2.5 billion to less than 1 Billion. You left out their 2012 earnings because they posted a loss. OP is a massive ****** .

Always said that Nintendo was the best. All of this fighting between the Xbox One, PS4, and PC gaming when the real superior console is the 3DS. Play your games anywhere you want. Toilet, waiting room, subway, bus, school, even get some fresh air at the park. Portable gaming > console gaming.

Good 'ol Nintendo, they deserve it for still giving a damn. Read some interviews with the big devs all being really genuinely excited about their latest/future projects, nice to see. The head zelda developer even wants to make a brand new IP before he retires.

This does conveniently leave out 2012 and 2013, which are negative for Nintendo

Didn't they originally own some sex hotels? Like, hotels designed specifically for having a one night stand

It helps they dominate the handheld market and they make affordable systems for the less " ******** " gamer. Plus now all the hipster ******* love the Wii U so they're doing pretty good. Which is good. I'd really hate to see nintendo do bad

I can't confirm the accuracy of these 'specific' numbers, but the general attitude behind them is entirely correct.

The Wii, in spite of all the jokes made about it, was insanely popular. Not only was there such a shortage of them that you couldn't even find one on shelves for months at a time, but there was a point where the sales from the Wii were actually going to eclipse the combined total sales of both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. This is a fact. That's why they made the Kinetic and that crappy motion sensor remote. The runaway success of the Wii made the executives in charge of Xbox and Playstation panic. They thought it was as popular as it was solely because of the motion-sensing technology, and tried to ape it as much as possible. This, of course, bombed horribly for the most part.

We can talk about the quality of individual games, or even how good or bad the total lineup of games for a given console was. But if we're talking pure numbers, the Wii is the undisputed winner of the previous generation of console gaming. It didn't just win; it won by a mile.

The Wii was in truth the giant that most considered the 360 to be.

100% true.

Not only does nintendo have an enormous fan base, covering ages 20-40, for Legend of Zelda, Mario, and other IP's, Which is the age range that spends the most money on games, but they also still have a huge margin in sales with their portable consoles.

While the 3DS certainly could have done better, it's sales, and the Original DS sales is 3x as many as PSP, and the PSP Vita.

If you spread out costs, and profits, ranging from when nintendo originally started, till now, they've paid their start up costs, which is why both Sony, and Microsoft are in the red so often.

Both the Xbox One, and PS4 are going to be originally sold at a loss. This, over a year or so, will mean all of their profits comes from online content, and publishing fees.

I agree, I pretty much got an Wii for the sake of playing Mario/LoZ and I'm pretty sure that huge majority of the fanbase is older players who simply want to relive their childhood of playing that stuff. Also Microsoft have their OS and all their applications for PC, not to mention all the deals they make with companies. (I sincerely wish that they would make those series cross-platform so I wouldn't have to put up with graphic choking and poor motion sensor.)
User avatar #30 to #21 - noket (06/15/2013) [-]
you guys said a lot of right things, so i'm actually surprised that you all forgot about a huge business for nintendo: pokemon

i am prety sure that unlike previous generations, the 8th gen sony console will start selling at a slight gain.

how in the **** did Nintendo pull 4.2bil and 5.5bil in 2008 and 2009, theres no way that wii sales were every that high
User avatar #31 to #8 - noket (06/15/2013) [-]
wii was popular and you have to keep in mind that they got a huge business with pokemons
User avatar #20 to #8 - sanguinesolitude (06/15/2013) [-]
remember that males 13-25 are the majority of the people buying ps3 and xbox. Everyone bought wii. Grandma, women, cripples, dogs, small pieces of toast, everyone.

dude the original wii you had to wait months for that thing to be back on shelves everybody wanted one that **** was popular

i know microsoft wasn't very profitable right away, but those numbers have to be fabricated in some way, they woulda pulled their money back along time ago if they was not making any money like that.
#18 to #7 - bloodmadnertwo (06/15/2013) [-]
You have to realise that microsoft is a huge software corporation. Even with the ****** sales their consoles have had in recent years they still make more than the other two companies most likely. kinda rich bastards you know :/

They have a huge cash reserve, and they have the casual market by the balls....I just hope they use this bubble of stability to get their act together and draw in some more third party developers

I don't have actual sources, but I've read in a lot of gaming and business magazines that Nintendo is a highly solvent company with a huge cash reserve...I wouldn't be surprised if this is 100% legit
