OH BOY THE CONSOLES ARE CATCHING UP. I'm actually glad that consoles are catching up so that every game will be dx11... The thing is that actually not everyone can afford the best available hardware for their PC, and in that case consoles make their move. pc ps4

built my pc for £500 ($750ish) over a year ago.

still runs most games on ultra.

i could upgrade two, or more, major components, for example, the GPU AND CPU, for the price of a PS4 or Xbox One.

I think a €250 ($330) GPU would still beat the console's.
My AMD 7870 Tahiti LE is a midway between the 7870 and the 7950.
That card probably beats the console's GPU.

Go in thinking of this a hobby project computer from the getgo because there is a chance you will **** up bad.

For the specs you want. I stole Someone elses specs off a forum because I'm not a computer guy. But if you know better than me feel free to be better.

If you choose AMD above nVidia (pure for gaming, no video editing or PhysX mumbo jumbo) you could even get more bang for your buck.

AMD is great for gaming, but not for calculations, processing and video editing (GPU and CPU)

If you have to watch your step with money, get an APU.
The AMD A10-5800k is an APU that runs at a 3.8 gHz with 4 cores.
It has a built-in GPU that has amazing performance for a built-in GPU.
It can play most current games (BF3, FC3, Bioshock Infinite) at Medium graphics with around 45-50 FPS.

The reason consoles are catching up to the speed of PCs is because they basically are PCs now (they're using a lot of PC hardware).

Despite that, it's still fairly easy to build a computer that's much faster than a console. Just don't be one of those guys that spend $200 on a PC case, when a ~$30 one can do the same job. The same goes for a lot of other parts that people spend too much money on.

Yeah...pc gamers really need to get over it. With the next gen consoles coming out they can produce graphics at a very high level and you can preach to me that pcs are better...maybe. But the ps4 is more powerful than all the computer in my house and you would have to but a 2000 dollar gaming computer to compete. You could build one yourself for around 7-8 hundred dollars...But. PS4 is gonna be 400 dollars and honestly, how much more do you want? The realism they can get is already ******* ridiculous some why the hell would I pay another 300 hundred or so dollars on something that's "better".

It's not about realism at this point its about how much they can compute and remember. A wargame with a thousand units like SupCom is great. A wargame with 10000 units rendered in photo-realism would be glorious!

A $2000 system to compete?
Bitch, I can build a $650 dollar system that beats the PS4.
"But that's more than the PS4!" - Yes, it is, but the PC has endlessly more options than a PS4, that's why its hardware is more expensive.

Its true that you can't build a PC that is as capable as the PS4 for the same price. But no it doesn't cost 2000 dollars. 2k gaming PC's are a thing of the past. Like 2007. Computer hardware is getting cheaper. Overclocking is becoming more popular and easier to do.

And consoles aren't much cheaper either. Remember when i said PC gaming has gotten cheaper? Well console gaming is getting more expensive. The original Xbox cost $299 at launch. As did the Ps2 with its price tag at $299. Not to mention when i got my Xbox it came with a few games. Games i still play to this day. The 360 came with Bejeweled. That is nothing more then fodder for ones grandmother. My Xbox came with Jet Set Radio Fusion. A full fledged game. It also came with a racing game. I remember getting 2 games bundled with the PS2. One of which was Star Wars Battlefront.

Lets not forget that PC's have a multitude of options for cheap and or free gaming. Free to play games, old games, mods, indie games, and steam sales. And these games are all full fledged games. There not half assed. I'm currently playing "Soldier Front 2". It cost absolutely nothing, Earlier i was playing "Heroes and Generals" which is also free. I never got anything for free when i was a console gamer.

PC gaming is getting cheaper. then it was 8 years ago. Console gaming is doing the reverse. Lets do some math. The ps4 is going to cost $400 at launch. Its online will cost $60 a year roughly. The ps3 has a 7 year cycle its running on. So if the PS4 is similar then it costs $420 for those 7 years. Chances are you will buy at least 3 AAA games a year. So that's $180 a year for 7 years. So that's an additional $1260. Add an extra $30 a year for DLC. And that's on the low spectrum. I'm sure anyone who can rightly call themselves a "Gamer" buys more.

So far were up to $2500 for a seven year cycle. Console gaming is not any cheaper then PC gaming. In fact its worse. Your spending $357 a year for gaming on a Ps4.

Console gaming has its benefits. It easier to use. Just plug and play. There are no drivers issues. Hardware to upgrade, software to maintain, a desktop tower to clean. Its more mobile. Third Person games like GTA or Saints Row are better to play (IMO), Racing games are better to play. The whole family can enjoy it. There are lots of things a console does better. But price isn't one of them. Factor in that you already probably have a PC for other reasons priced at anywhere from $600-$800. It's cheaper to buy hardware.

if you compare for example the PS2's specs with the specs of PCs in the market when it was released (2000) you'll see that the PS2 was pretty much a calculator, but the reason why it could play games fairly well it's because it was a GAMING console, a hardware meant JUST for gaming, most PCs today can't emulate well that thing even though it had a less than 300MHz processor, sometimes with consoles it's not about how many GFLOPS you have but how well you use them.

What are you talking about my PS2 emulator works perfectly fine, the problem isn't in the hardware but the programming; cross platform porting is difficult to do and even harder to optimise to make full use of the PC's power.

He means your computer needs to be SIGNIFICANTLY better stats wise than a PS2 to use an emulator. If you had a computer with the same stats as a PS2 running an emulator it would die a firey death

Be that as it may it's kind of a null point in itself; PC's are just generally more powerful. You'd have to actively seek out something that has such low spec. Plus the emulator came out a long time after the PS2 was out, the average pc may not have been able to run it then but now I think it's more than capable.

Thats because emulators are pretty heavy to run.
If you would run the same game on a ps4 and pc with a titan (Don't count in bad ports like GTA IV), the pc can output a much higher resolution, more particles etc.

You have to remember that console games tend not to generate on the fly; there is a lot of pre-rendered stuff that they use whereas a PC will be more likely to use less prerendering and do it on the fly

That's true too, i guess.

Still, you get less bang for your bucks with consoles, which evens it out pretty well.

But lets stop yelling at each other, console or pc is a personal preference and both have their ups and downs.

Its mainly high amounts of optimization. They do this with PC's too but its impossible to get it as good as a console games optimization because everyone is running different hardware.
