There are a lot of meme's that are specific to certain sites.
A lot of sites have "inside jokes" that are basically memes. Even really small sites.
This is an example of a meme that is only on one site.
Expecting everyone on other sites to understand the ''meme'' is like expecting strangers to understand your inside jokes.

Literally? You know Oxford dictionary recently changed the definition of the word literally
So it may be used in this context:
"informal used for emphasis while not being literally true" (Oxford Dictionary)
#50 to #7 - selk (06/13/2013) [-]
Actually... OP is using the term correctly. If you were to look at Merriam-Webster's definition of "literally" underneath their header "Usage Discussion of LITERALLY" ( or even just Google search "literally definition", you will see that literally can be used for emphasis for something that is not literally true.
User avatar #97 to #50 - snowshark (06/14/2013) [-]
However that is not strictly-speaking true. Whilst it is used that way, that is merely an amendment made after the creation of the initial word. It is not correct to use the word in such a context, however it is forgivable because in that context it takes the place of slang.

Similar to how "cool" doesn't mean something that people find to be impressive/concurrent with their interests, rather it means something that is moderately cold. However it's usage is allowable because of the rules of slang.

This really is just a question as to wether slang does or does not constitute official vocabulary and there are as many who say it does not as who say it does.
#23 - smittywrbmnjnsn (06/13/2013) [-]
I want to literally beat the life out of everyone that uses "literally" incorrectly.
#78 to #23 - anon (06/13/2013) [-]
in this case it's used as an intentional hyperbole. i feel like that's an exception.
#17 - mytrueface (06/13/2013) [-]
I have laughed a lot about the xbox one posts,
but this one is utterly Garbage...
#83 to #17 - anon (06/14/2013) [-]
Fun fact: this was originally posted as a satire post making fun of how much Reddit hates the Xbox One. It's supposed to be garbage, but without context, Funnyjunk is lame enough to thumb it up! Isn't that fascinating?
User avatar #98 to #83 - snowshark (06/14/2013) [-]
However, that's untrue.

It isn't out of context, the context has simply been shifted. Rather than a commentary on how much Reddit hates the XBoner it is now a commentary on how much Funnyjunk hates the XBoner and only anons are lame enough to be unable to understand how the concept of subjective context works.

User avatar #46 to #45 - blacklite (06/13/2013) [-]

User avatar #47 to #46 - corso (06/13/2013) [-]
That doesn't make it okay.
User avatar #100 to #47 - snowshark (06/14/2013) [-]
Technically it does. When you're operating in the context of satire you are privy to your own poetic licence because satire counts as fiction. Because of that anything and everything is allowable.

It may not be necessary, funny or even a good idea in the first place, but it is allowable. It just peeves people off is all.

(If used in non-fictional context though it is completely inexcusable.
User avatar #171 to #100 - snaresinger (06/15/2013) [-]

It's not so much the xbox I dislike (I'm sure it will be great) it's the policies I hate, yes these restrictions will hurt the pirates but it also hurts those who are not pirating, those who don't have the best internet connections and those without a whole lot of money.

It's not bad for the average consumer but to cookie cutter your product around the average consumer is a terrible idea. They're letting you know they think they have you by the balls and by buying you're saying, tighten your grip a bit my balls still have a bit of freedom.

Also this isn't just about the xbox it's about the ps4 and many of the other big name publishers who have this same kind of attitude towards their consumers.
#117 to #110 - bobthedilder (06/14/2013) [-]
Have you considered that the Xbox One has inferior specs (RAM, CPU, etc..) when compared to the PS4? Also it costs $100 more, has a higher subscription fee, and is far more restrictive when it comes to used games, sharing games, and if anything happens to Xbox servers and they can't connect to your system you are absolutely ****** .

That last bit is debatable as the system of the online check in hasn't been seen in action yet.

I'm going about this as constructively as possible, the bashing is getting out of hand I agree but, the things I've listed are genuine concerns and negatives when it comes to this gaming console.

I will neither thumbs you up or down by the way, I tried to say I'd be there
User avatar #132 to #117 - xIArcticIx (06/14/2013) [-]
Kinect is 100$ its the reason for the 100$ in the xbox one
User avatar #137 to #132 - bobthedilder (06/14/2013) [-]
I'm aware of that, which is ******* stupid. The reason you have to have a connect is because of their ****** anti-piracy policy or whatever. They created a problem and fixed it with another problem, which is ******* consumers.
User avatar #139 to #137 - bobthedilder (06/14/2013) [-]
User avatar #143 to #137 - xIArcticIx (06/14/2013) [-]
they are giving everyone the Kinect for "everyone to use it and have fun" which I still think is complete ******** because all it will be good for is collecting dust on my shelf but the games for the console really suckered me in fully. If Halo wasn't an exclusive I would go PC but I still do enjoy console games I just wish we didn't have to pick between two shiny turds. But still I will find enjoyment out of the Xbox One either way.
User avatar #146 to #143 - bobthedilder (06/14/2013) [-]
Indeed, I play PC myself and the only reason I'm getting back into consoles are the games such as MGSV, FFXV, Destiny, The Order, etc...
#151 to #146 - xIArcticIx (06/14/2013) [-]
Exactly. I say pick this gen's consoles for the games. I want TitanFall, Ryse, Destiny, Halo (5), and Project Spark ( ******* cool as **** )

-Pic related to I want it for PC. M$ would make a LOT of money if they did

Agreed 100%.
You have my vote!
User avatar #169 to #43 - snaresinger (06/15/2013) [-]
Yes, but literally can also be used as a hyperbole. When OP said "literally Hitler," it's obvious that the Xbox isn't literally Hitler. He didn't think it was, and nobody else did either. It was accepted to be a hyperbole for the sake of humor. If you don't understand that, then what the **** are you doing on a humor site? Take your overly-literal, know-it-all self elsewhere.
#119 to #43 - blanketandpillow (06/14/2013) [-]

I bet they added the second one (if it's really a definition) because of stupid people literally misusing the word.
#128 to #124 - blanketandpillow (06/14/2013) [-]
Really, you can literally look up literally definition of google and that will be the first page result. And maybe because it became popular to literally use the word literally for emphasis
User avatar #170 to #128 - snaresinger (06/15/2013) [-]
Actually, he's got a point there. Nowadays dictionaries often make incorrect usages official because they're so ubiquitous.

he's still being a stuck-up cunt, though
#173 to #170 - blanketandpillow (06/15/2013) [-]
But haven't dictionaries always done that? Change what they say to what the majority believes if it's only a bit off the mark? I doubt this a new thing.
User avatar #174 to #173 - snaresinger (06/15/2013) [-]
Yes. But he's right about the fact that they only added it because people used it incorrectly far too often. The point he's missing, however, is that you're allowed to use it for hyperbole.

I wasn't disappointed. I was really surprised and happy because pretty much every Time Travel show messes with the Nazis in some way and to see that the whole 3rd Reich setting was all a silly side-plot that got the story proper running was a breath of fresh air.

Put hitler in the ******* cupboard, where he belongs.

(And with this I have resolved to buy an Adolf Hitler action figure and leave him around the house from time to time, asking people to "Go put Hitler in the cupboard.")
