Yes, I have Deadlocked, I love it. Unfortunately they shut down the servers for the game last summer, so no more online unless it gets ported to the Ps3. I love Jak 3 and its one of my favorite Ps2 exclusives, but the other Jak games still can't touch the Ratchet and Clank games in my opinion.

The PS2 wasn't a good console because of it's specs. It was a good console because the developers completely understood the nature of what a console needs to be.

A console is a foundation upon which the experience of gaming sits. The experience comes half from the games you play and half from how you play them and who you play them with. (E.G. Even a **** game is fun if you play it with some good friends.)

The PS2 was a great foundation. It allowed a lot of freedom for developers to do as they pleased and made playing games easy for gamers. The XBox 360 and PS3 also do this and through their online functions made gaming with your friends convenient, fun and easy.

XBox One is an unmitigated disaster that is completely castrated of that foundation-sense. It isn't a game's console, it's a microsoft money-leech that happens to allow you to rent games from microsoft.

But if microsoft decide to stop supporting online for the XBox One? The console and the games suddenly become useless. Good thinking, Microsoft... worthless sacks of **** ...

"But if microsoft decide to stop supporting online for the XBox One? The console and the games suddenly become useless. Good thinking, Microsoft... worthless sacks of **** ..."

And why would they do that?
#435 to #423 - anon (06/10/2013) [-]
To release a new console that requires people to buy it, therefore making even more money
#443 to #435 - ohnotwoone (06/10/2013) [-]
except thats retarted because they are making money from the online anyway, and have no incentive to shut it down on the other console for a long time. Obviously at some point they will shut it down but not for a long time.
User avatar #486 to #443 - yologdog (06/10/2013) [-]
They shut down the first generations y-sphere live so people would start buying the y-sphere 1800's and they'll probably do the same for the 1800's too. What make's you think the new Y-sphereY-sphere is so special?

oh i just read your point and realized its even worse. there is such a thing as goodwill. they arent going to do that. You do realize they have confirmed that sharing games is going to be allowed with those on your friends list who have been friends for more than a month. Not only that but you can control the privacy settings on your kinect. Last thursday as well it was said that the Xbox One itself is not going to put a fee for used games but have allowed the developers of the game to charge fees if they want (EA btw have decided not to allow that so it's VERY safe to assume not many if not all developers will not be requiring fees for their games). It also allows up to 10 people to share your profile and play games, watch movies, etc... on it and even if there was more than 10 people there wouldn't be a fee, it'd be like the guest accounts in halo or call of duty. As much of a disaster as many people think it will be, lets just wait till E3. I guarantee by the time it's released it will compete with the PS4
User avatar #478 to #437 - yologdog (06/10/2013) [-]
They confirmed it AFTER losing a ******* of fans and investors to try and save face.

At the end of the day, for me, it wasn't the fact that they would use it at all. It was the fact that they placed it on there so they could.

I hope they port halo 5 to the pc...
User avatar #631 to #478 - snowshark (06/10/2013) [-]
If nobody buys it on the XBone they may even have to port the game to the PS4. xD

(What am I saying, that'll never freaking happen. Still, Destiny is on the PS4 and that's shaping up to be one hell of a beast!)
User avatar #544 to #437 - snowshark (06/10/2013) [-]
Do you know something interesting?

With the XBox 360 you can:

Share games with anyone, no matter how long you've known them.
Completely ignore the need for privacy settings on your Kinect.
Play used games free of charge.
Allow anyone you know to share your profile and share your games, watch movies etc.
Create as many guest accounts as you need.

All of those XBox One features are limitations that should never have been there in the first place, dude. Even then, Microsoft reserve the right to change their policies on those things whenever they please and, guess what else, since you need to log-on to XBL every day to play the games YOU bought the moment Microsoft stop supporting XBL for the XBox One it becomes a worthless hunk of plastic and the games aren't playable anymore.

Dude, don't defend that hunk of ***** . (Also, have you noticed how much developers were blamed in that report on thursday? It's all the developers who are doing these things but it's Microsoft who made the console and made all these awful features extant in the machine itself.

I don't give a damn if it can compete with the PS4! It's a ******* awful sack of **** by the very principle of it's design and I'm not buying it no matter what exclusives they **** out.
User avatar #612 to #544 - oceanfrank (06/10/2013) [-]
I'm still waiting for what they have to say at E3. Look man it's all a business, I'm sure the PS4 is also going to have **** features that will alienate people. Remember the PS3 release? Quite successful right? with the economical price of $600 for a gaming console which also boasted being the only entertainment system you'll ever need ever in the house besides a tv ever.
User avatar #630 to #612 - snowshark (06/10/2013) [-]
Yeah, the PS3 launch was a piece of **** and I've not lost all hope that the XBone will be good, however this kind of thing needs to be said. Microsoft needs to know how badly they ****** up. All SONY needs to do with the PS4 is learn from their last abysmal launch and tout it as a games console and y'know what, that's what they've been doing from the get-go this time.

Microsoft and gamers in general need to know just how visceral the reaction to this kind of conduct from manufacturers is because that's how we protest. We spread the word and opinion.

Though you're right, we do need to wait until E3 for the final say, unless Microsoft do a face-heelturn on their policies there's no way I'm going to buy it on the simple principles that I hold dear. Same with if SONY pulls this BS. I'll buy a freaking WiiU, or a 3DS or hell, I've had my eyes on the Ouya for a while too. Maybe I'll buy a Piston or a different high-spec Gaming PC and go from there, but principally if I buy a game, it's mine, not Microsoft's.
#452 to #5 - anon (06/10/2013) [-]
i still think that once people see really excellent exclusives coming out for the xbox one, none of this other stuff will matter for the vast majority. which is why a hell of a lot is riding on microsoft's e3 conference today.
#548 to #5 - anon (06/10/2013) [-]
I don't think you know a god damned thing about what you're talking about, because this is a clearly uneducated opinion based on little personal experience. Have you seen or heard anything about the Xbox One other than: "Non backwards compatible, unable to play offline, and fees for used games." ? I doubt you've even been to the website or their social networks to see that all of these rumors were debunked.

The Xbox One is a powerhouse of intense gaming experience that JUST SO HAPPENS to be a badass cable box that DOESN'T drain away your money unless you want to spend it. The Xbox One can play any game the PS4 can, and the entire platform was centered around gaming since its development, but also has amazing accessories. People seem to forget that you can stil PLAY GAMES QUICKLY AND EASILY ONLINE WITH FRIENDS. That **** didn't change. Xbox live is still Xbox live, which is undoubtedly runs some of the most secure networking servers in the world.
#359 to #5 - MasterManiac (06/10/2013) [-]
But if the Xbox One only allows you to "rent games from Microsoft", isn't this exactly the same as Steam being a portal for renting games from Valve?
What Microsoft have done is taken what is a huge market share of the gaming industry - purchasing and downloading games online, just as is already done by Steam, Xbox Live Marketplace, PS Store, etc. - and endorsed it. Also the only way Microsoft will "stop supporting online for the Xbox One" is if the entire internet collapsed. A worldwide nuclear holocaust is more likely to occur than that.

User avatar #515 to #359 - thewaronbeingcool (06/10/2013) [-]
They'll stop supporting the online for xbone as soon as it's no longer profitable for them to do so.

You see it happen all the time with online games and it happened to the original xbox back in 2010. The only difference being we can still play the singleplayer part of any game.

Seeing as you need Microsoft's servers to even play a singleplayer game, as soon as Microsoft stops supporting the console then any game you bought will be next to worthless, especially since they Microsoft no longer cares about backwards compatibility.
User avatar #388 to #359 - hanakoikezawa (06/10/2013) [-]
Good point, but with the amount of sales that Steam does, who rents?
User avatar #403 to #388 - MasterManiac (06/10/2013) [-]
When snowshark said "rent games from Microsoft" he meant that buying games is like renting them, since you don't actually have a physical copy. If Microsoft catch on to the fact that no discs means cheaper games, and they sell games at good prices like Steam then they could demolish the PS4 in sales.
User avatar #404 to #403 - hanakoikezawa (06/10/2013) [-]
Oh, that's what he meant. k
User avatar #554 to #404 - snowshark (06/10/2013) [-]
No, you were right. MasterManiac is the one on the wrong end of the stick here.

But you both missed out the important part.

Steam will continue to be supported and access to the internet is implied in the very construction of the system. However you do not need to use Steam to play the games that Steam Hosts. You can get physical or digital copies of the games for your own use outside of Steam, removing the necessity for an internet connection.

Because you need to be online to play literally every game that will ever be released for the XBone (barring a massive heel-faceturn by MS) it is like renting the games because you are always required to show proof that yes, you indeed own the game. You always need to be logged in, like Steam, but there are no alternatives as there are with Steam.

It's an awful console from the ground up and I'm not going to pay for something that I think is wrong on a fundamentally moral level. Seriously, almost all of the "features" of the console are just there to conceal the massive restrictions they have placed on people, especially people who enjoy gaming with their friends.

I won't buy it and I'll think less of anyone who does.
#608 to #554 - MasterManiac (06/10/2013) [-]
I don't think you quite understand how the system will work. I have attached a list of confirmed statements from Microsoft for referral, but will sum it up here.

When you purchase a game, you need to have an internet connection to verify and download the game, and it will be linked to your account. This will require only Xbox Live silver membership (ie. free). Once linked to your account you can then download the game on any Xbox you want as long as you input your account details, and also the game will be available to use by anyone who has access to the original console the game was purchased to - you don't even need to log into your own account as it is automatically linked to the Xbox. Once downloaded the game will no longer require you to even have an internet connection, but will occasionally check that you still have the rights to the game (ie. you haven't traded it or sold it).

Hope this was helpful.
User avatar #628 to #608 - snowshark (06/10/2013) [-]
Not really, I already know all that **** and it's all bullcrap. You still need to log in online to be able to even use the console offline and that means the games and the console become useless if you're not connected to the internet.

I remember when I was young. I played all of my games offline and it wasn't until Halo 3 that I actually played online at all. I object partly out of sheer principle because that time I spent playing offline was fun as all hell and there are a lot of people around the world who simply do not have stable internet access, if any. (I'm even friends with a few of them. Nice guys, pretty sporty.)

I understand perfectly how it will work and it is mostly restrictions that should not have been put in place from the beginning. If Sony puts these kind of restrictions on their console too then I'm going PC, simple as. I refuse to be treated as a consumer whore and to condone the kind of limitations that Microsoft are putting on things that I paid for and own.

If I want to share a game around with my friends, I'll do that, because that's how consoles should be. They're meant to be fun, simple and easy to use foundations upon which a solid and enjoyable experience is built, not this crap.
User avatar #611 to #608 - yologdog (06/10/2013) [-]
Their lenience still masks the fact that they want to limit what you do with YOUR game.

In jr high my friends used to pass around and trade xbox and ps2 games once we were done with them so that everyone got the chance to play the games. We continued to do that with the 360 and ps3 era. When we liked a game we went out and bought our own copy, while the games that did wrong didn't see anymore funding from us.

As far as I care, I buy a copy of a game, I own that game. It is mine. Not Microsofts, not borrowed for a limited time. If I want to pass around and whore that game out that's my business.
User avatar #629 to #611 - snowshark (06/10/2013) [-]

Microsoft already shotgunned random online play in the bollocks by introducing XBLParties so now there's nobody to talk to online and all games are filled with either silent parties or silent arseholes who don't have or don't use their mics and now they've their eyes set on taking your games round to your mates' houses to kick ass and take names!

Microsoft lost the plot big-time.

That's kinda how club penguin is you need a membership to do pretty much anything. Even if you get items while your a member they lock it after you stop playing. Not as big of a deal as your point but it still makes me a little mad.
#87 to #5 - huntermanone (06/10/2013) [-]
It's not a disaster because it's not out yet. I find it funny that no one has mentioned that Microsoft is investing $1 billion into exclusives for the Xbox One. Seriously, even if it had the social, sports and TV **** no one cares about, it won't matter if it has good, exclusive games, which is what made the PS2 a good console, the games.
User avatar #229 to #87 - kimilsung (06/10/2013) [-]
Well, for example halo 5 or gears of war 4? Man, they are going to release the same game with little modifications and say EHMAGHERD EXCLUSIVES and tons of gaybutt fanboys will go buy it. Do you really think that because it will release some cloned games as exclusives, it deserves you to accept the ******** and pay for every single **** on that machine? (including online and reselling block)

The PS2's graphics weren't completely bad, it depended on the game really. Games life final fantasy and gran turismo looked great. Gran Turismo 4 was even in 1080i which was a very good achievement at the time. I agree with you on all other things though. PS2 was one of the best if not the best console ever.

The top 5 selling gaming consoles are

1) PS2 - Sony
2) PS - Sony
3) Wii - Nintendo
4) Xbox 360 - MS
5) PS3 - Sony

Factor in handhelds and then Nintendo gets the upper hand with 3/5 top spots

Either way Microsoft needs to up their game their loosing in temrs of unit / sales (despite the significant boost from red rings...)

- Straight from Wikipedia -

Also Inb4 - MS only has 2 consoles the Xbox didn't even make top 10 for the non-handhelds list

Ps2 has the Largest collection of games even to date. yes even more then 360. so its hard to beat. but I loved my Jade Empire on Xbox. Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door was a sweet game on gamecube. Super Nintendo had Super Mario RPG! and Ps2 has quite a few cult classics im into. and the PC im on lets me run Emulators so I can honestly say I just ******* love gaming no matter what media im playing on ^^...

The Wiiu is great, but it is missing one important aspect. A library of great and varied games. Not saying that Nintendo exclusives aren't great, but the PS2 had everything ranging from platformers, fighting games, horror games, RPG's and JRPG's to car racers, sports games, shooters, etc etc. That's the main reason why I atleast haven't taken the initiative to buy a Wiiu. A great example of another console that does the same as the PS2, is the Nintendo DS (including 3DS) which has the broadest and best array of games for a handheld to date. That's why the Vita in comparison flops, It's the games that are the center of it all.
#271 to #54 - anon (06/10/2013) [-]
The problem is, when Nintendo was developing the console, they decided to finally listen to everyone who complained about nintendo titles overshadowing third party ones at launch, and decided to give about a year for third party games to shine. However, a lot of third party developers felt the Wii U wouldn't sell. This became a self-fulfilling prophecy, upon release, because, despite the Wii U's solid system and potential, there were no games released, again, because Nintendo wanted to give 3rd party devs a chance. With a lack of sales, 3rd parties figured it wasn't worth developing games, which led to less sales, which led to less development, in a vicious cycle. I expect that once Nintendo gets a few titles out there, sales will pick up, and hopefully, developers will start to give it attention.

Get dat slim outta here, the first model was even better. Flip a switch in the back, then hit reset button to start playing. Game freezes up somehow (happened twice on my ten year old system)? Then hit reset, rather than a one press button that turns off. Plus, the switch is a much better absolute off; no chance of not fully pressing and accidentally leaving it on.

Nobody loves online gaming more than me, but it really ****** up gaming. Not because we did anything wrong, but because the developers used it as a tool to unleash massive faggotry.

Look where gaming was 10 years ago in terms of quality. They used to have to make a game damn near perfect upon release, because there would be no opportunity to patch it or sell you the rest as dlc. Now developers use the early adopters as unpaid beta-testers; releasing the game when it's 90% complete and filling in the other 10% of bug fixes and missing features when the players complain enough.

Don't get me wrong, multiplayer is great but it's gotten to a point where all the top selling games are multiplayer focused appeals to the lowest common denominator. Now every game has to waste development on tacked on multiplayer so that they can sell you an online pass.

Then you've got ******* social media, because developers can't figure out that the people that made FarmVille successful are not playing consoles (or that FarmVille ultimately failed) and when they do figure it out they realize they have to dumb down the existing games to make them more accessable to those people.
