I don't see it as laziness as much as it shows our brain automatically filters out structures that from our peripheral vision looks random or unnecessary . It's basic automatic efficiency.

I didn't read the number because I wanted to make sure the fact was relevant to me.   
   
In other words, no matter the length of the number, if the fact doesn't relate to me, why would I care what the number is?
