I like how he looks at Robb all the time.
First when he sees Roslin Frey
"Nephew, you are a pretty cool dude!"
Then when Robb agrees to the Bedding Ceremony.
"Aw yiss, nephew! You are my bro!"

Spoiler alert:
Seriously, spoilers inbound.
If at this point you're still reading, **** you there are going to be spoilers.
Rob had the same issue his father had, and it led to his downfall as well: believing that treacherous assholes were the minority. Ned believed that the morals of Winterfell would still ring true in King's Landing, and because of this he was murdered. Rob believed that if he was a guest in someone's home, that he was safe beneath the laws and customs of men and gods. He knew from the get-go that Walder Frey was opportunistic, and he still trusted him.
Rob trusted the least two trustworthy men North of the Neck; Walder Frey and Roose Bolton. He surrounded himself with their men, and tip-toed himself into a ******* murder scene.
Had he not demanded honor and justice above all else, he'd still have the Karstarks, and wouldn't need the Late Lord Frey. He'd still have his head, and the Northern rebellion would still have been strong enough to make Walder Frey think twice about his actions.
And because of all of this, and the reality behind all these honorable men dying, I believe LittleFinger has the best chance of succeeding in his endeavors, whatever they may truly be. Especially given the ending of A Feast for Crows. Unlike anyone else, his intents and motivation are kept close enough to himself that no one can cut him off from them, and his treachery is done so much cleaner than Walder Frey's bloody affair. He is content with a silent, unseen victory, rather than having to parade it through the streets of King's Landing. And most of all, he is never without a friend. There could be three people left in the world, and he could convince them to trust him with their last bites of food.
Team Petyr Balish - from low beginnings, to glorious ends.

-Possible Spoilers-

whilst little finger has proven himself to be one of the better players in the game is still like the colour theory. where Snow will go across the sea and find daenerys get a dragon and then return with the remain dragon going to bran as the greenseer
#241 to #139 - justtocomment ONLINE (06/06/2013) [-]
Bran doesn't have any dragon in him though, so that doesn't make sense.
The only reason Jon would get one is because of the theory that he isn't Ned Stark's bastard, but rather the son of Rhaegar and Ned's sister. Bran has no claim to be the third head of the dragon.
User avatar #244 to #241 - guiltyparty (06/06/2013) [-]
but hes super powerful or at least he will be so the he will be able to control it from afar
#245 to #244 - justtocomment ONLINE (06/07/2013) [-]
Dragons are something entirely different than forest animals and humans. It doesn't make sense that Bran would be one. In fact, Aemon felt unbearably guilty that he wasn't able to be one of the three heads. I do believe Jon could be one, but that's about the extent of it.
User avatar #168 to #128 - wtsheals (06/04/2013) [-]
you have to understand that quest right isnt just an old custom in the world of asoiaf

It is sacred.

If you break it, you dare the wrath of the old gods and the new, and you lose all honor. In fact, it's so bad, that even pirates, robbers, and the lowest of the low hold to it. in westeros, it belongs in between death and taxes as one of the only sure things in life.

Now do you see?
#216 to #168 - saybut (06/04/2013) [-]
Agreed(even though I think you mean GUEST rights).

Robb would have lost the war without the Freys, and a wedding shouldnt be a risk like that.
Why shouldnt he trust Roose Bolton when he was his bannerman? He wouldnt have won the war without the Boltons either. You may say Robb was naive, but without Roose and the Freys there wouldnt be a chance that he would win the war.

Team Tyrion Lannister - always.
#242 to #216 - justtocomment ONLINE (06/06/2013) [-]
But what you and wtsheals seem to be missing is that the higher class of Westeros has become sacrilege in general, thinking themselves either above the gods, or thinking that the gods don't exist. While Jaime Lannister was Vargo Hoat's captive, he swore numerous times to himself that he would marry Cersei, and show the people that "Lannisters are above the laws of men and gods."
Ned Stark was promised to the wall, yet he was beheaded. Cersei sent armed men to catch the group headed to the wall after the fact, and demanded that Robert's bastard be handed over, despite the men of the watch being untouched by the going-ons of the kingdoms.
Robb still clung to these values, and believed that a man like Walder Frey would be so quick to forgive and re-ally himself. Walder Frey, who essentially asked Robb "Well, what do I get out of letting you cross my bridge to save your father and sisters?" Walder Frey who withdrew all his troops the moment he learned Robb Stark had broken their agreement. Walder Frey is an uneasy ally in good times, let alone when he's insulted as he was.
And Roose Bolton? Who wears the banner of the Flayed Man of Bolton? Who defied Robb's direct order to bring Theon Greyjoy to him, and instead handed him over to his (spoiler) bastard son to torture? (end spoiler)? Boltons were famous in the past for skinning Starks and wearing them.
Knowing of the nature of Walder Frey, and his general disregard for what others say about him, and knowing Bolton... And then knowing the Frey just gave Bolton a ******* of silver as a wedding Dowry, and knowing Bolton worked with Vargo Hoat, who was originally working for the Lannisters... And above all, knowing that he didn't have the troops to take Frey by force, and knowing the Frey knew that as well.
Don't get me wrong, I understand how sacred guest right is supposed to be: but I also know that only a fool blinded by "honor" would consider it a perfect shield.

i know im getting redthumbed for this, but actually, i can understand Walder Frey:

he was promised, that his daugther could be queen, and was wronged.
If he had let it slip, without further notice, you could be shure, that the other lords would pay him less respect in the future, and thus making his life harder, so he had to do something.
Besides, it was quiet obvious that rob was losing the war; Winterfell had fallen, he lost the support of his bannermen ect ect.
shurely Walder didnt want to be on the losing side of a war against the lanister, but as he had priorly aided stark, he needed to prove, that he had actually changed side, and not just by word, giving him another reason to attack Rob and his followers.
And as a sitenote, Walder is old, and have lived an relatively unremarkable life, and would probably be forgotten in history. but his acts at the Red wedding, will shurely make shure, that he is remembered, even many years after his death.

Lastly, although it doesnt justify killing a king, while he is under your sworn protection, the walders have always been known to try and rise in the ranks of the seven kingdoms. and shurely, killeng the biggest threat to the kings (Jofferys) life, would help him in that project.

In the game of thrones universe you do not under any circumstance attack people that is protected under guest right, in terms of honor its the lowest you can get.

And Walder may have gotten himself in good with the king, but everybody else in the realm will never again trust a Frey.

The books did a much better job at explaining how horrible the breaking of guest right was, and I hope the series can really show how much even the Lannisters view the Freys with disgust after the wedding

What I think is wierd is that Frey is one of Riverruns bannermen and therfore he has promised to help them in war. So by refusing to send his troops to aid them he would become a traitor and then they could simply go to his castle and chop his head off.

User avatar #105 to #21 - EdwardNigma ONLINE (06/04/2013) [-]
Thats one way, sure.
But what else could have worked is joining up with Robb and being the driving force of capturing Casterly Rock, one of the most well known and well defended castles in the 7 kingdoms. TO be remembered as something like "The Rock Crusher", that ***** badass. And Robb was losing, yes, but the plan to turn the tide was take the richest castle in the kingdom from your primary enemy.

And that wouldn't have broken one of the most sacred laws in Westeros.
In short, Walder is a massive twat and could have been remembered for something great instead of being feared and likely hated for something horrific and cruel.
