I decided to see how the game was going for a yearly checkup, and i ended up with several hundred k coins, and full trimmed mage armor. Then i gave it away and stopped again

That is also the reason I quit playing as a druid tank in WoW. There is just so much time one can spend staring at a bears rearside.

#20 - anon (06/03/2013) [-]
I always play as a female character given the choice. I don't pretend to be a girl IRL (sometimes people assume, I don't mind the free benefits, but I never lie). I just figure, if I'm going to play a game for hundreds, even thousands of hours, I would rather be staring at a girl's body than a guy's body.
User avatar #29 to #20 - graphenz (06/03/2013) [-]
When I play I emerge myself as my character, having a bit of trouble doing that if I'm playing a girl.
User avatar #51 to #29 - snowshark (06/03/2013) [-]
Oddly I've always found female characters more relatable than male ones. (I'm bi so... this may say something about me and my masculinity as a whole...)

I think the problem is that with men everything is more subtle in terms of their emotions than women. Yeah, men are allowed to get angry but it's rare you see any form of media that has the balls to make their men cry. And even when they do it's never real crying, it's either crying for comical effect like in Zombieland or that fake-ass single tear that's splashed all over LotR.

With men there just seems to be more of a cultural need to be strong and independent whereas women get much more leeway with their actions. If you've ever seen Evangelion then know that Shinji is one of my favourite male characters simply because his emotions and motives are so unusual and complex, especially for a guy.

Also, there's a cultural stigma that if a guy is kicking your ass, he's just another guy. If a girl is kicking ass, then she's a ******* legend. The over-sexualisation makes me somewhat uneasy with female characters but the over manly... isation that comes with male characters is even more abhorrent to me.
User avatar #121 to #51 - graphenz (06/03/2013) [-]
I too am bi, though a bit more manly. And well since the character represents me it has all the emotions that I have so yeah I dunno. Good speech though, good speech.

User avatar #127 to #123 - snowshark (06/03/2013) [-]
That's hardly the douche card. Or at least was not intended so.

It's somewhat upsetting the readiness people seem to be at on the internet to call the worst of people. (Though most people don't really give them cause to do otherwise, which is also somewhat upsetting.)
User avatar #128 to #127 - graphenz (06/03/2013) [-]
Well to be that guy, I say "Good speech though, good speech". You respond wit ha "Say what you like about it" which sorta implies that I'm being sarcastic or shooting it down.
User avatar #129 to #128 - snowshark (06/03/2013) [-]
That was meant to be in reference to my being in the creative industries. You get an awful lot of flack these days for that kind of thing.
User avatar #131 to #129 - graphenz (06/03/2013) [-]
Ahh, I just got the sentence, I'm a ******** and I sincerely apologize. Again I thought you we're a douche (people usually are) so yeah, sorry!
User avatar #130 to #129 - graphenz (06/03/2013) [-]
Problem is you cannot display any kind of emotion behind these words, other than the initial worth of each word or sentence. You cannot show body language so how you deliver a sentence is all you have.
#132 to #130 - snowshark (06/03/2013) [-]
Urgh! I know, right? But even then that kind of structuring is a bollocking pain.

if you get your nose down to Shakespeare then you can guage the intensity and pacing of most of his lines just from the layout but even that takes a little time and effort on your part. Most of the time on the net though people are just flitting through stuff as fast as they can (and rightly so, mind you.)

That's why I'm so damn glad when I find a site that allows pictures in the comments section. Facebook is so worthless in terms of actually talking to people because of how empty the comment formatting is but FJ is simple and effective. You get some really meaty conversations going here from time to time and it can all be given an instant clarification of tone through a well chosen picture!

Still, my wording doesn't help things.

I don't think it's a poor excuse. Sure, you focus on the game. But if you are playing in third person camera, the character model is part of the game.

Having to pay attention to the fighting in an MMO? Perhaps in the top of top raids/dungeons. There isn't a single MMO on earth that requires your attention in a casual level up fight. We dont have a Dark Souls MMO

On runescape my friends an i would make girl accounts with "sexy" names. We would then proceed to find a dude who looked rich, but not rick enough to be smart. we would then ask them to be our boyfriends and then get them to give us a **** ton of stuff. The **** they made up was so funny example:
>guy:hey babe
>me: heyyyy
>crazy night last night, almost died like four times
>no way! how?
>well first i raced my friends on the highway. I have a ferrari so i almost always win, but one idiot almost crashed into me
>omg that so studly
>yeah then after i went to a bar and got into a fight. i threw the guy through a table, then he pulled a gun on me. i grabbed the gun and knocked him out.
>wow that so hot.
>sit down and let daddy tell you more (yes he said those exact words)
>ohh how i wish i had enough for a rune plate body
This is a literal conversation i had. My friend and i were crying from laughter.

It's not an MMO, but a glorious single player RPG. It's Mount & Blade and you can get trial on steam and free activation codes are everywhere on the interwebs. There are a ton of great mods for it.
