The worst part is that he knows what's coming, and he looks so scared.

This makes me hug my dog harder than any ASPCA commercial.
#776 to #22 - bswanson (06/03/2013) [-]
I'm not saying he knows they're going to euthanize him.

What I'm saying is that he knows he's in pain, he knows everything hurts, and he knows that something is wrong because all of his friends from the police are being weird.

I bet he has also seen this ceremony before for other fallen cops, and has associated it with someone close to him dying.

Also, failtolawl , you're a douche

User avatar #231 to #222 - failtolawl (06/02/2013) [-]
right, so you don't. Your dying dog doesn't like going to the vet just like every other dog doesn't want to go. so because I bring my 5 month old dog to the vet, he is scared ******** , that means he thinks he is going to die?

No, it's a ******* dog. I have lost 3 dogs in the past year, they are nothing but animals that listen to commands for food and protect those who feed them, nothing more. You can love them, and they could love you back, but never will they "know" they are going to get put down.
User avatar #239 to #231 - Lilstow (06/02/2013) [-]
My dog actually didn't mind the vet. infact he enjoyed it because he got to meet new dogs.

I had a basset hound who understood when we were trying to help him for medical reasons, so he did as we wanted him to.

When we found out he had a tumor the size of a bowling ball he seemed uneasy about the fact that we took him to the vet a bunch of times but didn't seem to do much. The tumor was putting pressure on his heart and lungs so he had difficulty breathing to the point that on his last night at home he just sat outside quietly, listening to the other dogs bark, unable to bark himself.

He knew damn well he was going to die.

people have twisted beliefs when it comes to pets.
User avatar #642 to #464 - mrradical (06/03/2013) [-]
your beliefs seem pretty twisted to me.
you make it sound like your pets are nothing but moving toys, and if you have lost 3 dogs in the past year clearly you treat them as such.
User avatar #643 to #464 - clockworkmage (06/03/2013) [-]
I don't know how much what the guy said is true, but do you think animals can't feel emotion? They can. There's really no disputing that. Animals have ability to very basic logic, and much of what he said is circumstantial, but even if everything he said was complete bollocks

Stop being a twat about it.
#536 to #239 - anon (06/03/2013) [-]
not to **** on your feels, but your dog most likely just sensed that YOU got sad, and therefore became sad himself.
its like if you catch your dog doing something bad, you become angry, and then the dog looks remorsefull. studies have shown that if the owner doesn't show any negative response to their dog doing things they aren't supposed to do, the dog doesn't give two flying ***** .

dogs are awesome friends, but they are animals. no more, no less

You've seriously lost 3 dogs in one year?

That's the thing about dogs and cats. They have this weirdass sense, it's like a 6th sense, maybe it has to do with smell. Maybe they can tell by the behavior of the humans around them (they have spent centuries evolving specifically to get along with people) German Shepards are smart, he probably sees all the people around him acting grave and serious, has a basic understanding of the purposes of a vet, and knows something serious is going to happen

There was a cat that lived at a nursing home that could tell when someone was going to die. Whenever a nurse saw the cat walk into a bedroom at night and lie on the person's chest, they would wake the person up and call their family members, because whenever the cat did that the person would die the next day, every time.

Then there are the really ******* stupid ones, like my cats. My last cat was crazy smart and could open doors. This one tried to climb a curtain rod, runs into windows and mirrors, and once got tangled in the blinds
#372 to #362 - anon (06/02/2013) [-]
So yes, it's very possible for an animal to know it's going to be put down. It can tell that it is sick or in pain, and dogs especially have evolved to understand human body language and emotions just as well as other dogs. It's been shown that most sick humans and animals are able to recognize that their death is near within several days of said death.

So if a dog is walking along, knowing it is very sick, and surrounded by it's human pack/friends that are all acting sad, it can plausibly deduce it's going to die

My golden retriever is usually the most hyper dog you'll meet she'll greet you with a full on standing hug to me and my family members (more calmer to guests because trained) but when my mom was going for surgery my dog somehow knew and starting whining and crying in the saddest manner possible right before she left.. When she returned frail as any surgery patient, my dog was the most calmest and caring dog there was that moment. She starting crying and didn't leave her side it was so touching and beautiful
