Ricky Gets It. . it' s almost as if The Bible was written by racist, sexist, homophobic, violent, sexually frustrated men, instead of a loving God. Weird. Ricky

Now whenever I see Ricky Gervais in the thumbnail I immediately (correctly) assume it's some religion bashing quote.

Cause it's a cheap joke, new atheists are teething for anything anti-religious. They don't even care if it's funny or not.
User avatar #85 to #12 - misfitsftw (05/30/2013) [-]
he makes other jokes. these religion bashing ones are a minority (barely) but they are the most controversial so they get the most attention.

it was written 2000-4000 years ago, almost everyone was like that in that time

The loudest people don't always represent the majority.

your right and i know what you mean( i hope you know what i mean too)
they dont always represent the majority, but there are today still many homophobic, violen,t....... ( dont want to write it all)...... people today
why should there be less in the past ?
#29 to #5 - anon (05/30/2013) [-]
The majority was written less than 2000 years ago. The older stuff than that is pretty much directly lifted from the Torah.
Generally the Holy books that are still around are rewrites of eachother
Torah rewritten to Bible rewritten to Qur'an.
The characters and scenes change but it's all pretty much the same.

Ricky Gervais needs to shut his trap. We get it, he's atheist, but he has proven to be just as close minded as the people he insults. He's just another loud mouth looking for attention.

What always surprises me is how Christian-dominated this site must be for the top comments to be thumbed up as they are, and yet inflammatory atheist rhetoric somehow always makes it to the front page!
#116 - anon (05/30/2013) [-]
OKAY WE GET IT, YOU'RE AN ATHEISTS BECAUSE IT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF, MAKING FUN OF PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IN GOD

do you want your ******* prize for being an atheists or will you shut the **** up and move on with your pathetic life?

I'm not sure why people only bring his religious comments to light more than anything else, he's a great comedian and because his comments on religion are only clever on occasion, if they're the only thing people see from him it makes him look pretty lame.
#19 to #13 - anon (05/30/2013) [-]
Do you have something better to answer?

Makes ***** loads of money, has **** loads of followers, has very good funny arguments so we can laugh at the evil and bad stuff in life. Is a very nice person in general and donates **** loads of money to different causes.

You made a comment about a pic of him on an internet webpage that is based in humor(which is his job) instead of actually doing something useful.

And I´m commenting on your comment... **** !

I understand that he's a comedian, I understand that he has a huge following, but everything I hear from him in twitter or whatever is a joke making fun of religion, and it was finny the first couple of times but now like I said its all I hear from the guy

People like to repost the religious stuff, but believe me... he laughs at a whole bunch of stuff.

Specially fat people, hahaha. And also politics(right and left wing), intelligent design, he even laughs at the things he seems to defend when he's criticizing other things.

HOLY **** CHRISTIAN ARE SO ******* MEAN TO ALL ATHEISTS WE ARE SO ****** SMART COMPARED TO THOSE CAVEMEN WITH THEIR BELIEFS HOLY **** I MEAN WE ARE SUCH MUCH BETTER STRONGER MORE INTELLIGENT SUPERIOR HEROS FOR STANDING UP TO THEIR EXTREME OPPRESSION AND EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL INTOLERANT ASSHOLES WHO MAKE FUN OF ME FOR MY BELIEFS, HOW HORRIBLE CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE WOULD GO AROUND BELITTLING AND INSULTING OTHERS FOR THEIR OPINIONS AND THOUGHTS? WHAT ASSHOLE WOULD EVER DO THAT

This is what you sound like. Please, continue to tell me how intolerant I am when there's 5 posts a day on the frontpage telling all religious people how ******* horrible they are.

If you wish to have a legitimate point, you MUST ALWAYS argue against a charitable reconstruction of an argument you are opposing. If not, your point is moot. your comment is not a charitable reconstruction. The point of the mass distribution of atheist ideology on this site and other sites stems from the idea that one has the obligation and the right to extend an argument to someone who submits to fallacy or whose beliefs are supported by a set of statements which do not sufficiently grant validity to the conclusion. As long as religious beliefs exist with support inferior to the logic provided by atheist arguments, then these posts ought to be accepted by any rational individual.
tl;dr: too bad if you're annoyed, tolerance is irrelevant

Except none of the atheist posts provide any 'argument' other than redundant and contradictory elitist viewpoints.
#189 to #186 - ziggydepp ONLINE (05/30/2013) [-]
for beginners: identify one contradiction made. provide a legitimate source. remember only charitable reconstructions are valid.
for a valuable answer: only when the aggregate is proven to fit into your oversimplification can your statement be considered true. begin.
User avatar #198 to #189 - tombombadil (05/30/2013) [-]
"Oversimplification"? I'd dare say you're overcomplicating it, given what website you're on and how blatantly obvious it is to see how many of the arguments against Christianity's intolerance really just make the person arguing appear intolerant.

I will admit that the Old Testament makes some VERY extreme statements regarding the treatment of non-believers. But that being said, the first four books of the New Testament (Gospel) turn right around and tell people to stop all of the hateful things they were doing and to just be good people. So when people make statements such as the ones Ricky Gervais made, being snarky and claiming Christians to be hateful and closeminded without actually educating themselves on the full content of the Bible, it's really just ignorant and crass.

Especially here on funnyjunk, people have a tendency to just be just as hateful to Christians as Christians are to Atheists. Not to mention, most of the hateful religious people are old and jaded in their ways, while the younger generation is being exposed to more ideas and is growing up more open minded. I don't need a source since that's basically how 90% of all religious arguments/content goes down around here. If you look at the majority of the statements made against religion on this website, it's usually uneducated bashing instead of logical or tolerant debate, which outright contradicts the standpoint that they are being the tolerant ones in the room.

#167 to #142 - certifiedidiot (05/30/2013) [-]
The problem is the religious fanatics, but even then, I don't think I'd ever be okay with religion, that and the quote from Mr Gervais is still true, this post said nothing about you being intolerant, it pointed out something about the authors of the bible.
User avatar #160 to #156 - drewbridge (05/30/2013) [-]
I'm not saying that, I'm saying that people ironically hate on religion when no-one is mocking atheists.
