If there's a heaven and hell, what age do you appear as when you go there?

Imagine you're like 95 with tons of old people diseases and you go to heaven. Are you still 95 years old in heaven? That would suck some major chode to be a frail, old, wrinkly **** for the rest of eternity.

What if a baby dies? If it goes to heaven, what happens to it? Does it grow like normal or does it just float around, giggling and completely unaware of what the **** is going on until the end of time?

Some people have told me dead babies go to hell because they have original sin. If that's the case, is there just like a massive landfill of smoldering infants in hell, with patrolling demons casually prodding them with pitchforks every few seconds?

These types of questions are why nobody wanted to sit next to me in elementary school.
User avatar #251 to #15 - ImsoObvious (05/30/2013) [-]
these are the types of questions that point out heaven and hell as just a fairytale
User avatar #255 to #15 - dapianoman (05/30/2013) [-]
what if you are resurrected as a manifestation of the time you were happiest? in the case of babies, i dunno maybe they will stay like that like those cherub thingies
#268 to #15 - anon (05/30/2013) [-]
In heaven our bodies are made new. We are without sin so disease and health problems would not be present. As for babies, it's not something us as humans can answer.
#339 to #268 - anon (05/30/2013) [-]
So diseases are caused by sin. Not those tiny microscopic bugs called germs. Cool, good to know.
User avatar #308 to #15 - xookamiix (05/30/2013) [-]
I've asked these questions and were given these answers:

1.) When you go to heaven you are freed from old age and sickness, i'm not entirely sure what that means.

2.) If a baby dies it is sent to purgatory to wait which also seems to be a lesser known layer in hell where nothing really happens, you just wait.

3.) Lets all just have a party and have fun while we're here, only one golden rule is don't be a dick.

it says in the bible. (dont remember where) your actual body doesnt go to heaven..ur soul does.. ur givin a new "heavenly" body. not really sure if that is a physical body like we all know such as skin and hair and eyes and all the works. but we're giving a beautiful spirtitual body that is right in the eyes of the lord. as for the baby question i also dont have the answer and thats a good question.

#35 to #15 - anon (05/29/2013) [-]
Personally, as a born again christian, I believe that you won't go to hell until you have an understanding of right and wrong. A baby does not understand right and wrong so they would go to heaven. A mentally retarded person does not understand right and wrong (Depending on how serious it is) so they would go to heaven. However a 20 year old understands right and wrong so they would, because of their sin, go to hell unless they asked for forgiveness.
#27 to #15 - anon (05/29/2013) [-]
These questions are actually not really that difficult...

If you are a Christian, then you will be resurrected to a glorified, perfect body. Christians believe that prior to mankind's sin, Adam and Eve were in a perfected state. In summary, God takes away sorrow, sickness, death, disease, etc... and believers in Jesus Christ are "glorified" forever.

Secondly, this is, in all honesty, a debated issue among Christians. Particularly, among biblical, evangelical Christians. Personally, it seems to me that God is free to save infants as he seems fit. See, the post is flawed into thinking that Satan controls hell, when in actuality, God created hell for Satan and fallen angels.

But honestly, I would venture to say that this response will not change a thing about what you believe. I will say to you though that Jesus has died to save sinners without distinction. I must encourage you, and whoever reads this, to turn from your sin, and believe in Christ's sacrifice. And yes, I am serious.

"You don't have a soul, you are a soul. You have a body."
Maybe you'll appear as a physical manifestation of your innermost self. It's a very plain explanation, but for all intents and purposes we could say if someone was very pretty in life but acted as a wretched person, then they would appear to be an old and ugly hag, and visa versa. Of course, that's assuming there'd even be a physical presence and not just some cloud of consciousness or something like that.

I'm not absolutely certain, but I think that all things that have either accepted God and asked for forgiveness or whatever you want to call it, or do not have the ability to know about God go to heaven. One issue; Satan does not torture people in hell, simply being in hell is torture, and is punishment for all sinners, including Satan.

Satan knows he has already lost, that he is already going to go to hell when Jesus comes back, so his goal is simply to take as many people down with him as he can.

Basically, Satan isn't some demigod, naw, he's the angelic (or demonic if you prefer) version of a rebellious teenager who knows he already lost the fight with his dad (God), and does anything and everything he can to spite God to get back at him.

User avatar #191 - RoyalNightmare (05/30/2013) [-]
I'm just throwing this out there, not taking either side.

No where in the bible, does it say that Satan rules over hell. The most accepted translation is that he suffers in hell, with the people who are sent there.
User avatar #197 to #191 - ilovehitler (05/30/2013) [-]
Well, some anon said this.

'better to rule in hell than to serve in heaven'.

He is called, "the ruler of this world" at John 12:31, 14:30, &, 16:11 ;

He is called: "the god of this system of things", in 2 Corinthians 4:4 ;

At 1 John 5:19, God's Word says that, "the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one".

so satan not only rules over hell, but earth as well.
User avatar #235 to #197 - HarvietheDinkle (05/30/2013) [-]
Well, it actually depends on how you interpret them.

For example, what if I interpreted quotes #1 and 3 as such: satan has influence over humanity, and this is a way of saying that his will is innate in everyone, so they must try to get rid of their sinful side

as for quote #2, "this system of things" could mean anything.
User avatar #201 to #191 - chism (05/30/2013) [-]
good point. considering God is king over all so it seems that God him/her/itself is the king of hell too.
#4 - anon (05/29/2013) [-]
Well, This is not really all that valid. It assumes a warped view of the God/Satan relationship. It's not like Satan lives in and has all powerful control over Hell. Satan isn't sitting in Hell and torturing people. What he is trying to do is corrupt God's creation and become like God. It won't happen and he is destined to be sentenced to Hell. It's not a big party for him or anyone else that goes there.
Satan doesn't punish sinners. Hell is a place where unrepentent sinners are separated from God and all that is good. Imagine being in a place where all happiness and fulfillment and comaraderie is removed and all you have left is misery, sadness, and regret. That's Hell and you don't need some red-horned, pitchfork-carrying demon to do anything at all to you. He will be in the same situation that everyone else will be: cowering alone in the dark with the only thing he has left to him, his pain.

TL;DR - These fools don't know what they're talking about.
#480 to #4 - anon (05/30/2013) [-]
Why does God give Satan the freedom to try to become like him if he is so an all powerful being? He could just easily snap his fingers, kill Satan, and replace him with someone who will follow his commands.
#501 to #480 - anon (05/30/2013) [-]
Why kill your enemies when you can torment them for eternity?
Also, he wants to show how he isn't merciless and allows Satan to try and prove his point.

I was merely pointing out that there is an explanation for their conundrum but it requires that they reevaluate their concept of Hell.
If you don't believe a Hell exists then there is no talk about Hell that will satisfy you other than one that discredits the idea or is a joke about it.

OR we can assume that neither heaven nor hell are real and actually live our lives to the fullest on earth, and be nice people just for the sake of being nice people - not to get into heaven
In the bible, it says its really hard to get into heaven if you are wealthy, and have to give all your money away on earth in order to do so. But why live a worse life on earth just to get somewhere that probably doesn't even exist?

I see some have already responded things like this, but I thought this biblical studies and theology fag could jump in, too.
All of this is true under the assumption that the caricature of Christianity is true, not real Christianity. Firstly, hell is not a place of fire and brimstone where everyone is tortured. Hell is the condition of being entirely separated from God (that is, all that is good). Those in hell aren't continually being tortured, they simply exist outside of goodness. It is unclear if those in hell even have a body. They may just be a disembodied soul.
Secondly, Satan does not punish sinners but rather deters people away from God so they may go down with him. Divine retribution (good things happen to good people, bad things happen to bad people) is not a biblical principle. In fact, it is seen more biblically that the righteous suffer and are tortured by Satan and his demons so they may turn away from Christ. Read Job. He has everything taken from him to prove he is good because he loves God, not because he loves what God gives him.
Actually, if you're a sinner you're likely to never see Satan. Let me just pose this to skeptics: if Satan and demons want to deter people away from God, revealing themselves is a terrible idea because it shows there are supernatural occurrences. Ever wonder why skeptics never see demons or ghosts but more superstitious people do? While this may be chalked up to gullibility, do not neglect the hypothesis that skeptics are purposely kept in the dark because this the easiest way for Satan to win in this society.
I would need an entire new comment about the Pope remark. I am prepared to make a statement about it, but I won't clutter Funnyjunk with my unfunny musings. If you want me to say it, reply to this comment and I'll post.

that is the one thing that makes me stuck reading your comment.

its difficult to decide whether this is actually true, or whether this is false. we cannot make assumtions if we dont really know, so therefore i call this a theory because it seems possible.

I'm not saying its true, I am just saying it is highly plausible. Your reaction is precisely the one I wish more people would have. I don't desire to prove it, because it cannot be proven. I only desire for it to be deeply considered as a possibility, because it really is one.

Certainly, kind fellow!
Many Christians claim that if a baby or a child dies before they have a chance to come to Christ, they are saved. Many Christians also agree that those who die never hearing the word of Christ also go to heaven. The question then is this: if you get to heaven for ignorance, why the heck did God ever tell us about him in the first place if he is so loving?
While anti-theists claim this paradox shows that Christianity is false, it actually shows (again) the false stereotypes Christianity has taken on today. Admittedly, it is partly Christians fault, but this is truly a misrepresentation of the religion. Christianity's goal is not salvation. Christianity is not about shoveling as many souls into heaven as possible. Jesus came to earth to set up God's kingdom right there and then. In fact, he says repeatedly "The kingdom of God is before you!" The purpose of Christianity is to begin repairing the world marred by sin with love, humility, and righteousness. The greatest commandment to love your neighbor as yourself is a mirror of this. Christians are supposed to be God's hands and feet crafting a kingdom of love and reverence to God now, not wait until God blows everything to hell and starts over. God is not setting the reset button at the second coming, he is perfecting what Christ and Christ's disciples have already begun.
So would the Pope be getting promoted or fired? Neither. He would pass from this fallen world where his work was healing the world and molding it into Christ's vision for the earth to a paradise where Christ's vision is realized. Beautifully, the culmination of the new, perfect world would not only be God's vision and do to God's work, but coincides with the Pope's (and all Christians) visions of the world and our work until Christ comes back.
Now I wait for someone to say "then why is there a hell if Jesus was meant to fix the world??

thats only a truly beautiful purpose. Honestly. And even if the religion is wrong, which it may/may not be, people have still helped each others and build a world of compassion. I did honestly believe the purpose was heaven, but this purpose is just so much more meaningfull. I'll thumb you all day long for this

I once met this christian on the street, who stopped me. He obviously stopped me because i was wearing Mjölnir around my neck, and i have 2 norse mythology tattoos. He asked me "why are you in a religion of sinners" and then i told him "it's not the mythology that killed the christians back in time, it was the vikings, theres a big difference" and we had this conversation going for quite a long time. A question came to my mind, which i couldn't bear to not ask him. I asked him "did god create everything?" and of course, he answered "yes". I then asked him "did god also create diseases, such as cancer?" then he answered "no, that was satan". Thus i asked him "to what purpose?" and he answered "to punish all the sinners". And i was like "okay, okay, i can follow that. But why does cancer then hit all the people that don't deserve it too? Alot of old people, who do nothing but take care of there grandchildren, mind there own business, and just try to live life, get hit by cancer, and actually dies from it. can you answer why good people also gets hit by cancer?" I actually thought he would come up with an answer for that. But No. Instead he looked blindly at me for 2 seconds, and CHANGED the conversation. Then he began talking about god's deeds and satans punishment and he kept on going. I had to ask him ONE more question before i left. I asked him "why do you stop people like me, on the street, to talk and try to convert them to your religion? Why am i not able to trust in what i want to, without people comming to my and start talking about how good your religion is?" here comes the good part. After a few seconds, he straight out, and with a cold voice answered "because you're wrong!" I just started laughing and walked away.
TL;DR : Allways let christian people on the street come to you and ask you questions. Allways let them make up an discussion. Because good god, if you know a little about religion, just a little bit, it is easy for you to win the discussion.

Consider the following:

What if heaven and hell are just two sides to the same coin? All the "good" people go to heaven where they have a nice peaceful eternity. All the assholes and sinners like us, however, go to our version of heaven, which they called hell for the sake of convenience. There we get to chill, do all the sinful stuff we loved doing while we were alive and have as much fun as the guys in heaven. The only reason two versions exist is to seperate us, so there's no conflicts like in real life.

As for why hell's always depicted as a place full of tortured people, maybe that's just the part of it dedicated to masochists and people who are into BDSM and **** . Come on, there's hot demon chicks with whips. I'm sure there's atleast a million people who are into that.
