lol basic is a joke its gonna be alot of people up after taps giving motivational speeches about how they need to come together and be the best division than compete for stupid **** / think cptns cup is important than run around all night at battle stations the hardest part of the entire boot camp is being away from loved ones and dealing with your retarted shipmates who blue falcon eachother...

Good luck, keep your head down, always try your hardest, never give up. Your body can physically take anything you have to do, it's all in your head. Overcome the limits you thought you had.

My bootcamp starts june 10th for the Canadian Navy Reserve.

What I predict im going to look like on the first day when they wake me up really early to do PT.

Nice! I'm thining of joining the navy myself. What things did you need to join it? All I have is an expired passport and my healthcare card. Thos esort of things, and others.
User avatar #162 to #161 - dabombmanater (05/29/2013) [-]
I had to show them my passport, SIN card and highschool/ post secondary transcripts. Need like 3 references that aren't family and a reference from every place you've worked in the last 5 years. And the security clearance check can be frustrating you'll need to know everything about your family so if you have a sibling that you dont speak too often it gets really hard to find out there personal info. Its not too tedious though, everything is walked through. It took me 4 months to get sworn in, best ive heard of is 3 months.
User avatar #164 to #162 - HOLYCARP (05/29/2013) [-]
Woas! I was expecting 2-3 days. Ha. Thanks for replying with that info mang.

YOU CAN CONTROL WHAT YOU FEEL.

A bit of advice in payment. Like tell yourself "I ******* know my leg is broken!", and it won't hurt as bad, maybe not even at all, but that takes practice.

I ship off to Annapolis on the 25th of June for the Academy.
Taking the oath and starting Plebe Summer 2 days after that.
Perhaps our paths will cross one day, friend.

That's what i hope to do, How did you go about getting accepted?
User avatar #192 to #148 - ritzrules (05/29/2013) [-]
Well. Bout time I got to have this conversation with somebody. First question: Are you still a high school student, and if so what year?
#412 to #192 - doctoryou (05/29/2013) [-]
Still in high school, school is done thursday, so I'll be a sophomore next year
User avatar #529 to #412 - ritzrules (05/29/2013) [-]
Oh. Wow. You've still got time. Alright. Right now you need to be focusing on grades. Make them spectacular. If you aren't on the honor roll, you're not doing it right. Take AP classes. As many as you can HANDLE; don't overload yourself. Also, get involved in your school. Try to get into NHS, Beta Club, something that displays community service and leadership. These are qualities that the Naval Academy looks for in Midshipmen and future officers. Sports; find one you like and work hard at it. Become a team captain or co-captain if you can. Rack up some varsity letters. Don't pick something easy; captain of the bowling team doesn't do much to impress the CoC. Track, cross country, swimming, football, baseball, something that requires you to be physically fit. Not only will this show athleticism, another necessary quality to survive at the Naval Academy, but it will also just get you into shape. Which is good. Having a job and doing it well (Employee of the Month and **** ) doesn't hurt, either. It shows you've got good work ethic.
Really, that's all you can do in high school. Just build up a resume that shows you're a really well-rounded student, worker, leader, and athlete. But, and I'm sure you already know this, the Academy isn't for everyone. Some people don't find out until they get there, and they hate it, and I feel really bad for them. For me it's an easy choice; I've wanted to go there since I was four, but the key is that I've had a taste of it already. Look into their high school programs. They have a STEM program for the summer after your Sophomore year of high school, and NASS (I went to this one and it was AWESOME) after your Junior year. NASS will give you a pretty good understanding of what life is like as a Midshipman and as a Plebe. The hours, PEP, the classes, they'll run a mock Sea Trial, the works. Get to know the place if you haven't already. It will help you make the choice. Finally, look into NROTC. They'll ask you on the application to the

Academy if you've sought out other ways to get into the Naval service. This shows that you're motivated and that you really want to be a Naval officer and that you'll take whatever route you need to in order to protect your country. That gives the admissions people a hell of a patriotic boner. It's also a good back-up plan. Apply for the NROTC scholarship as well as a college that you like that has an NROTC program. You'll have the same rank upon graduation, just a different school.
Any questions?
#535 to #530 - doctoryou (05/29/2013) [-]
Alright, thank you very much sir. I'm on the football, track, and basketball team, and lettered all three. I'm currently graduating number one in my class, and am taking 2 AP classes next year. I have wanted to go to the Academy for as long as I can remember. I want to serve my country and that seems to be the path I think will help me achieve this the best. I applied for STEM this year but was not accepted :/ But I will do everything I can to be accepted next year, thank you and I hope to join you in the Brigade one day
User avatar #543 to #535 - ritzrules (05/30/2013) [-]
Maybe. You'd be a Plebe during my 1st Class year if you make it right out of high school. You're on the right track, man.

Like honestly we'll miss you but does this really have to be content? Couldn't you just post a status update? It kind of pisses me off when people say "I was just diagnosed with type 4 cancer", or "my parents both died yesterday" like that's sad and all but I don't think it needs to be on the from page.
