Also from Ontario... I always thought it was weird that they were called potato bugs since I would look them up and they had different names like Pill bugs ect but I'm not the only one

User avatar #118 to #8 - srapture (05/27/2013) [-]
That's the technical term for them. I've always found it weird that people call them things like 'pill bug', like calling Flamingos 'pink birds'.
#171 to #118 - anon (05/28/2013) [-]
pill bugs and woodlice are different
User avatar #208 to #171 - srapture (05/28/2013) [-]
'pill bug' is just a nickname for a very common kind of woodlouse. People seem to use it as though it's a technical name. Well, that was the case in the comment section of the last FJ post to do with woodlouse.

im from NYC and i call them pill bugs... so i dont think that its a concentrated thing
User avatar #258 to #255 - kikisu (05/28/2013) [-]
Ok, what I'm trying to get at is that here in Maryland, the only people who call them pill bugs are in a small area. Not that its only in Maryland.

oooooo ok

I called them Armadillidium as a kid. But I was in 4H entomology, and therefore a strange child.
#232 - volksworgen (05/28/2013) [-]
I used to call them insect-tanks...
#181 - SilentRaver (05/28/2013) [-]
I grew up near Chicago and called them pill bugs.
And I remember whenever some cheeky ************ blurted out "rollie pollies" it would make my tiny 8-year-old mind so irrationally furious that I'm honestly surprised I wasn't a more violent child. Seriously, I've been grounded from Nintendo, pushed off off my bike, had my holographic Mewtwo card tumble-dried into bits of pulp; and yet I can't remember anything pissing me off more than the mongoloids across the street shouting "rollie pollies!".

Granted, it was usually the same asshole that used to get Cheeto dust/spit all over my controllers, so that very likely had a lot to do with it.
