I am a middle child, and I actually enjoy it. I prefer to be independent and left alone. And currently, I am way more successful then both the oldest and the youngest..so its not always bad..
#205 to #1 - anon (05/27/2013) [-]
I don't think so. I have three brothers and I'm the second born. I don't think I've ever had a problem being a middle child, but I think it's partially because I'm the only girl. My parents have never really shown any favoritism towards any of us, even though I'm usually the one who has to make sacrifices for my brothers (but I don't really mind).
#208 to #205 - anon (05/27/2013) [-]
Just thought of another reason I might not feel like a middle child. My older brother and I are very close (in age and relationship), so it's more like he and I are both the eldest, and our two younger brothers are the middle and youngest.
#111 to #1 - anon (05/27/2013) [-]
I acknowledge your opinion, however due to being a first born I have to disagree seeing as the parents of a first born know nothing at that point in time. So the first born is used as practice, and then often forgotten about as the new children come along, so the parents can implement their 'wonderful' parenting skills.
However, I imagine middle children have problems of their own too, I am just biased due to my own personal experiences.

not gonna lie, i have a socially awkward friend who in response to the very question anon asked you said that. Stop denying it, and stop being a faggot. Complain all you want, but it will take a cohesive effort between yourself and your parents to change anything. If you care this much to cry on FJ then care enough to confront your parents without your siblings around and find a solution. Till then shut up.

User avatar #132 to #76 - cullenatorguy (05/27/2013) [-]
I agree with patheticus but not in a douchebag way. I can't speak from personal experience, but from everything I've read or heard of about people in similar situations, from what you described, it takes a conscious effort by both parties to fix things. You may be surprised, it seems like parents always feel deep emotions, especially sorrow, when confronted with issues like this when the issues are brought up by the child in question. For all you know, they could fall the their knees in front of you and beg for forgiveness.

Like I said, I can't speak from personal experience; I'm merely making a suggestion based off of stories I've heard and read about. It's worth a shot, though, I think. You could finally find the reasons and truth. Your parents very well may dislike you greatly, or there could be other underlying reasons for you mistreatment. You won't know and can't know until you try. That's my two cents.

Good luck.

Then move out, **** em, they'll either have to do the work or respect you. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and do something about it. I got kicked out, and offered to move back in, I said no. Because I wasn't respected enough in that house, they even admitted I was right, and they shouldn't of kicked me out. Be a man.

I moved out at 16 and went into a hostel shortly after living with family for a while. If it's that bad leave, if it's not, try and solve it. Talk to them. Have you ever seriously sat them down and told them this? Have you tried talking to them and giving them suggestions? And heck, on my birthday I had a pot noodle, that was all I remember, my 18th was a little better. Don't sit here and complain, do something about it. If it doesn't work, get a councilor or teacher or family or w.e. to talk to them. You should be off to college soon anyway right?

Well if you've done all you've can, complain as much as you want. I take back the stuff about maning up if you've done it. ***** me off when kids (not saying you) complain and either do nothing about it, or have nothing wrong. One girl I know has her dad clean her room, pay for her car, insurance and does everthing for her, and her life is supposedly hell. I told her I was going to be kicked out of my house as I was short on rent, she said she wanted a few £ off me for a favor she did weeks ago. I feel for you bro, I know the feeling, and most can't empathize, or think they can, but really have no problems. At least you have the internet eh?

Where'd d'ya live? Murica? In the UK social services work for the kid, and if you don't want to go back, the won't make you. They believe the kids over the parents, if you really want to move out in the UK, they put you in a B&B until they can find you a hostel or flat

Dude, I get where you're coming from. You said you can't move out till you're 18? Not necessarily true, but it would probably be best to finish highschool before you go. I'm assuming your parents don't plan on covering a college education or insurance for you, since you said they can't afford for everyone to eat out.

If that's the case I would suggest getting a job as soon as possible, saving up all the money you get so you'll have something to help start you once you get out. You'll turn 18 sooner than you think.

My dad used to beat me. I finished highschool and then I was out of there. I got a job as a cashier and lived in some nearby woods using some wilderness survival techniques until I saved enough to start a living.

I'm glad I lived the way I did, because it made me strong. And after being lonely for so long, I can truly appreciate the people I have in my life now. You're stronger than you think, so never doubt your own capabilities

DUDE we are the same. I got to do a whole bunch of crap around the house and then some at my dads workplace. and since 2 of my 3 sisters have moved out to start their own families they expect even more of me. Wats worse is that I am the only guy so that furthers their dependence on me. I want to move out so bad but i cant even try to. im 21 and still living here when i should be getting used to life without parents supporting me.
also you know its bad when the youngest sister has started working at a market and you still have nothing of the sort.
i really want to leave

Middle child here also, my younger sister is the daughter of my stepdad and mom which makes it even worse. My 2 older brothers moved out so now i live with my parents and the youngest. She's the smart, beautiful and perfect little girl and i'm just total scum according to my stepdad (my mom just keeps her mouth shut).
It is sad, really really sad. I'll be happy to live on my own next year.

the middle child is number 1 target for sibling rivalry, and as a kid they will notice the blame gets directed towards them.
#125 to #33 - deoxysislegion (05/27/2013) [-]
Both of my younger brothers (I am oldest) team up against me and pick on me. I literally came to the point, I confronted my mom about the issue and she says since I am the oldest then I should just ignore it, to where I just lock myself in my room and let them do what they want to me. Just recently they have thrown a shoe at me and now I have a bruise on my chest and when I told my mom she just "scolded" them and they went back to watching dumb youtube videos. Although you may be right, it is quite the contrary in my house. I think level of, so to speak, being a sibling has its pros and cons. Believe me you're not alone with sibling rivalry.
#128 to #125 - deoxysislegion (05/27/2013) [-]
I forgot to add that my mom tends to blame me for everything since both of my brother lie and say it's me. It's a two versus one opinion scenario.

Being a middle child is kinda cool..
I stay in my room most of the day, & try not to get noticed. Having 3 kids on either side of me (Yes, I am 1 of 7) is really difficult. My mom bought me a laptop because she felt guilty I guess, and now it's my main reason to be antisocial. I stay in my room all day, err day on the internet and I regret nothing.

I'm the oldest in my family and I think its kind of cool. Your parents do focus a bit more on you to "set the example" for your brothers, but you also get more independence.

I was the first one to get ajob and start earning money. It feels pretty boss to be able to invite your siblings dinner and other stuff.
