Im just gonna say two things:
1. That has never been said by the catholic church, and not a long time ago, a regular guy would have been killed for heresy, imagine the pope

2. How he actually feels isn't really that clear. He's obviously better than the last one, and most, but he could just be feeding people what they want.

You see, this is a line that I disagree with. The fact that he declares this now gives proper Catholics no right to tell an atheist (That is a good human) they are going to hell and that they're an abomination. That's one less attack atheists have to deal with in their lives. That is a change atheists deserve, and it is a change that does affect them.

I dont know but he did say that Homosexuals raising a child is similar to child abuse.

not joking, he actually said that.

and why was I thumbed down for stating a fact and being pro gay? I was only stating a fact that if he hates gays than he shouldnt be acknowledged fully. I am catholic but I have no problem with gays.
#496 to #495 - clockworkphysicist (05/26/2013) [-]
Right but most Catholics believe homosexuality is an abomination, so you would think that the catholic LEADER wouldn't be to fond of it. In fact aren't most Catholics called to follow the bible to the letter? Meaning not liking homosexuality? I mean gay bashing and not liking homosexuality are two different things. But he is doing things and pointing out things that Catholics should be doing. But that anti-anti-gay attitude is almost as bad as an anti-gay attitude.

Nothing in the bible says to hate the gays. It says its an abomination, but it doesnt really say how to treat them (at least I think thats true)

All I know is that the 2nd commandment is the only way the new Pope should be handling the gay situation. Love they neighbor as they self. If he isnt promoting that than he isnt promoting to followings of the bible.

Leviticus 18:22 - "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."

Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

Also this is the second commandment,
"You shall not make for yourself an idol" under the Philonic division used by Hellenistic Jews, Greek Orthodox and Protestants except Lutherans.
"You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol" under the Talmudic division of the third-century Jewish Talmud.
"Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain" under the Augustinian division used by Roman Catholics and Lutherans.

Now, what you are referring to is the teachings of jesus, which is the most important in almost all christian sects. However, he says to love thy neighbor, not agree with what they do.

Georges Lamaitre was Catholic, as was Gregory Mendel(Catholic monk) and a Belgian Priest theorized the big bang in the 1920's. Yes, it's okay to be a man of science. The Catholic church also accepted evolution officially in he 1950's I believe.

#137 to #134 - skatin (05/24/2013) [-]
Yeah, I'll look into it.

Is it so wrong to want to believe in a deity, yet be a man of science? You end up the black sheep in both circles. Oh well, being open minded can't hurt!
User avatar #140 to #137 - ICEDgrunge (05/24/2013) [-]
It's not wrong. If there is an omnipotent creator of this universe, and he created logical reasoning for everything existing underneath its external beauty, and these scientific building blocks of our universe is just a poison apple for believers, then I will defy that deity, for such an act is disgusting. Alas, that's not the way I see it, and that is why I mention Deism. It seems like a copout for someone wanting to believe in science and God, but its a good foundation for belief.

There are quite a few options for Air Force aviation. I'm pursuing a couple, but not as much as I should. Logistics is where my passion lies.

You've got a few main options.

1) Drone pilot - recruiting like crazy
2) Active pilot - most likely heavies, my personal favorite
3) Active Guard pilot - probably the easiest, but no PCSing

Like I said, I'm active duty and have ties to numerous recruiters, wing CC's, and current active pilots. You are more than welcome to PM me and I can try to help you out. The AF is worth fighting for, life is good here man...VERY good.
User avatar #204 to #53 - biomedic (05/25/2013) [-]
Being a biology major you get provided quite convincing evidence that life arose by chemical evolution, maybe not on earth, but given the time frame of a billion years or so it becomes quite convincing. I can understand how given that and being a man of science you could accept deism since we still have no idea how the universe came to be. But christian? do you just believe genesis is metaphorical? I'm not trying to be offensive or anything, I'm just curious. Also as a man of science I'm sure you change your views based on changing evidence? since it's okay to be wrong, it's how we progress. And if we did discover an explanation for how the universe came to be, would you abandon your faith?
User avatar #397 to #53 - thepartygod (05/25/2013) [-]
dude, I'm exactly the same. Studying aerospace engineering at OSU and also Christian.

It's actually quite interesting when you consider God using science instead of of them contradicting each other. Like for instance, there are so many variables that come into play when it comes to sustaining life on any planet (such as the universal gravitation coefficient, distance from a life sustaining sun, etc.). And the chance that earth has all the variables perfectly right is astronomical, like 1/10^50 or something crazy. So it actually leads me to believe that there has to be a God to precisely control these aspects in science.

Let's be friends
#461 to #397 - Rascal (05/25/2013) [-]
Or, you know, chaos theory and all that. Not to say a God is impossible, but you shouldn't jump to that conclusion so quickly. It's equally possible for everything to have just been a massive stroke of luck.
User avatar #487 to #461 - thepartygod (05/25/2013) [-]
yeah, but a massive stroke of luck would be near impossible. I don't think you understand the magnitude.

Another factor to consider is the biological aspect that goes into life that applies the the same statistical principals. The process of life occurring in any organism is so fascinating and complex, that while DNA is being made, the proteins that make DNA (their name escapes me at the moment) work at a pace that makes like a million strands a minute. And if one strand is off, the whole organism can be severely ****** . So the fact that at the microscopic level, the amount of perfect detail going into life with no errors, no random chance, also leads me to have faith.

There are also weird events or coincidences that lead me to believe, that can only be described as supernatural. God doesn't want people to have blind faith, he gave us intelligence for a reason. The more I study science, the more I actually believe.
