I first experienced beer when I was 10, and now at 21 I am enjoying it responsibly and even moved onto stronger stuff.

Sure, I get drunk fast, but I know how and when to do it.

I started being allowed to drink with family at around the age of 14. I've always been able to handle my drink because of that, but I still drink way too much anyway as is my country's tradition.

american here (19)
Don't remember the first time I tried alcohol, but I'm guessing around 8 - 10 years old.
From then it was a single beer here and there when I was a pre - teen.
And my first time I got drunk was when I was 14, my brother ( 18 at the time) had a some friends over because my parents were gone and they let me drink with them.

Since I turned 16 and got my driver's license, my parents have only had one rule about drinking for me and it was don't drink and drive.
I feel like if parents were realistic about their kids drinking we would have less problems. Obviously your kids are gonna drink as teenagers, my parents knew that and just laid out the rules for us, and now both me and my brother can drink without being idiots about it or having to hide it.
As apposed to the people around my age whose parents never allowed them to drink at all, they go to parties now and can't handle their **** .

Not always true. I've never had a desire to drink... or get high for that matter. It just doesn't appeal to me.

There was a study done to test this (in the US). The effects were the opposite: the people who drank with their parents when they were young were more likely to abuse alcohol later on.

My family is German too, and they've always been lenient with alcohol. My mom rarely drinks except for special occasions, and my dad drinks a reasonable amount of beer (no piss-water), and they'll both let me have some. I'm don't drink much, but I find beer belches quite entertaining. Also, I completely agree with iamtheblackgoat, my parents follow the idea of being familiar with something so you don't go overboard with it.

I don't smoke or drink. I don't do any kind of drug and find it a huge turn-off when someone does. But I try so hard not to judge pot-smokers or drinkers because they can do it in moderation. I just don't know anyone that does. Legalize. I don't give a **** , just regulate yo'self.
User avatar #171 to #146 - jrondeau **User deleted account** (05/24/2013) [-]
Try to see it as less of a turnoff for people who do those things in healthy moderation. i used to be like that, then when I went to college I realized that all but roughly 1% of students are into that stuff in some form.

Go by GPA or their general moral code before dismissing them is what I'd tell you.

Some are smart and have good ethics. And I DO try. I've tried so hard to desensitize myself but I usually fail. My friend Austin does it ALOT but hasn't moved to other drugs like the media tells. My friend Logan never did it and got excellent grades. Last week she did. Now, she still gets excellent grades, but she keeps telling everyone 'We got so high the other day' and it just gets so ******* annoying! If you smoke keep it to your ******* self.

Yeah, I totally agree with you there. I started with some of the ADHD meds, then moved to pot, then to this organic herbal blend that has effects similar to synthetic pot, but can be fun if taken in small doses. At one point I took way too much and thought I was about to be judged by an angry god (which is really ******* weird cause I'm an atheist) and forgot who I was for about 15 minutes. After doing all that **** I've still come out with a 3.5 my first year, though I plan to significantly curb my use of weed and the herbal blend. However, I still plan to use the ADHD meds before tests and big projects because I do far, far better while I'm on them.

Also posting as anon cause I'm a bitch.

User avatar #117 to #87 - Crusader (05/23/2013) [-]
I have, but I don't do it regularly.

Everything i good with moderation.

You shouldn't need something in order to have fun, think of the party as a meal.
You can have the core meal, let's say a Hamburger, and you can be happy and thrilled by that, but lets say that you want some macaroni salad, let's say you want some caesar salad, those things add to meal, make it better.

Now, if you are going around eating those salads every day, there is a problem, if you are going around the party saying "You need to try these salads" there is a problem, but there is no problem in having a bit of the salads every once in a while, everything is good in moderation.
#168 to #117 - Rascal (05/24/2013) [-]
... It's wrong to suggest salads to people???
User avatar #210 to #168 - Crusader (05/24/2013) [-]
No, but it is hardly a BBQ if all you eat is salad.
Salads are side dishes to the meal that is the hamburger, and should never be relied on to make the meal.

User avatar #224 to #221 - jrondeau **User deleted account** (05/24/2013) [-]
I dunno about addicted in the fashion you're talking about though. In order to get full-on addicted to that **** you need to smoke it heavy for years in most cases. Typically the synthetic **** they just try cause it's a lot more intense, but believe me, most stoners stay away from that **** cause it scares them too much. **** makes you feel like you're dying which can be fun if that's what you're into...
User avatar #226 to #224 - konradkurze (05/24/2013) [-]
well ive seen plenty of teens smoking the synthetic **** , and when they start coming off it they smoke more for another high to boost them back up again

they know theres medical problems associated with it, they just dont give a **** .....thats between teenage stupidity and stoner addiction
then again, im currently down in new zealand.....people here dont have too many brain cells to kill in the first place
User avatar #227 to #226 - jrondeau **User deleted account** (05/24/2013) [-]
There's medical problems with it and that should be a turnoff, but these are the same people that would do most anything that's not the hard, super addictive **** to get a high i.e. shrooms, LSD, DMT, etc. to get a new buzz. It's all about preference and their willingness to take it to the next level. I've been around people that have smoked weed for a few years and are well on their way to being addicts in a few more years, but most of them don't touch synthetic cause it scares them too much. On the other side of the coin, I've also met a guy who was addicted to synthetic for over a year and couldn't go a day without smoking a few grams of the stuff.

And for your first sentence, people do that all the time for various things. Someone trying to get work done late at night may take a caffeine pill (or some other form of the stuff), then take more when the effects stop wearing off, people drinking will drink more if they feel their buzz dissipating, etc. You can't use such an argument when we see and accept that sort of thing in other areas of everyday life.
User avatar #228 to #227 - konradkurze (05/24/2013) [-]
well some might use synthetic **** as a quick energy buzz, but the people ive seen use it are kids who dont go to school and dont work....they just hang out and smoke **** , so they have no practical use for the syn, theyre just getting baked

most likely the type that since they cant go out and do anything real for a buzz, since most adrenalin rush pasttimes require modest money, they choose the cheap **** option of getting ****** up on syns
User avatar #231 to #228 - jrondeau **User deleted account** (05/24/2013) [-]
I've seen those people as well and that's sad. However, I'd say that the issue with those fools isn't necessarily the drugs, it's their unambitious attitude that gets constantly reinforced by those around them that makes them failures.
#109 to #87 - CargeLock (05/23/2013) [-]

I seriously thought I was the only person in the world who believed this. Actually got a sea of red thumbs for an argument I got into with some dood about that. Being stoned slows your reaction time, distracts you, and can downright just make your movements more sloppy.

I have seen my friends stoned, I have seen videos of myself stoned, we often knocked stuff over that wouldn't normally happen and simply didn't have the fine motor skills we did sober.
While you might not be as bad as someone driving drunk, you are still under the influence, and that can be bad if you are operating a 1500 lbs vehicle doing 60.

It definitely isn't the same as driving sober. That being said, I've driven stoned about 1,000 times. For about two years now, at least once a weekend and nearly every day during the summer I have operated my vehicle while beng high. I've never gotten in a wreck, and I've never been careless or felt out of control of my driving. I am fully aware of my capabilities; I can assure you it is no risk to those around me. Maybe not for all people, but driving while high is literally so easy for me.
User avatar #124 to #105 - Crusader (05/23/2013) [-]
I can drive buzzed.
I have driven buzzed, often on weekends I drive buzzed to get everyone else home safely, I can drive buzzed, my brother can, most of our group of friends can as well.
But there are people who can't, people simply have trouble focusing while high/buzzed.
And the laws around driving buzzed/high are around because of that 5% or 10% or 2% that can't handle it and try to drive buzzed/high and get into a wreck is just as devastating because it is something that could be avoided.

That's a 2% failure rate. Would you trust an airline that had a 2% fail rate? That means 1/50 planes are going to crash.
Think about how many students will go to a Prom, there's 153 people going to mine tomorrow night, with these numbers 3 of them won't be coming to school Monday.

I know that last bit was an exaggeration on how bad the accidents would be, but still.

The problem is some people are more likely to become psychologically dependent on it.

See, that's my problem, I have **** genetics when it comes to vices. Family history of drug abuse, gambling addiction, smokers and alcoholics. Now knowing that, I should have been more careful but I started smoking cannabis daily. 5 Years on and I'm now psychologically addicted to cannabis, however, as I only smoke at night, just before going to sleep, my problems manifest as insomnia.

Different people react differently to it. Some are fine and can pick it up and leave it whenever, and some aren't. Some get addicted and begin to "need" it, not just want it. Hopefully in the next 10 years they'll come up with some sort of genetic screening procedure so you can know which side you fall on.

You could always find different solutions man. Take a sleeping aid that doesn't cost roughly $5 per use (at least hopefully it's only that much after 5 years of use) or just try to avoid doing it as often is the advice I'd give. And keep in mind that there may be worse in store for you if you keep up the habit. Hell, I know of a guy who's been smoking heavy for about 10 years and just needs it to stay normal now. A friend tells me he smokes up to 8 grams a day sometimes and just starts to freak out if he runs out and can't find any.
