Aloud is used in terms of sound. Allowed is used in terms of permission.
I'm from Scotland, as far as I'm aware Scottish English isn't a valid language like American English, so in that case, we speak the exact same English as England. And from my years of speaking English English, you are allowed to do something and you can say things aloud.
