the next gen is going to be great for the PC gaming master race all but the most fanboyish of core gamers will abandon the xbox which means most, like you, will go to the PS4 but some will join the master race, also the PS4's architecture is very similar to the PC's so that means less bad ports

its a waste of money and time for the designers of the xbox meaning they have put time and money into that rather then on a GAMING CONSOLE
we already have a tv and an easy way to switch between tv and xbox we want out gaming consoles to be ******* gaming consoles
User avatar #79 to #42 - sirwolfcat (05/22/2013) [-]
Just because they're adding additional features doesn't mean they're going to mess up gaming completely. I believe the gaming will be just fine and an improvement to the 360. And I'm sure you aren't going to be required to watch tv on the damn thing so you can just not use that app or whatever. Just wait for more details before you complain about the performance or features.
#235 to #79 - bigmanblue (05/23/2013) [-]
they can only make a console so expensive
therefore they have a limited budget for designing and making said console
the more money from that budget spent on frivilous silly things like the voice command and the tv stuff the less they have for making a good gaming console
User avatar #236 to #235 - sirwolfcat (05/23/2013) [-]
We have no idea what their budget for the Xbox One was nor how much of that budget was spent on what. But I do understand what you're saying, all we can do is wait and see and not jump to conclusions.

#157 to #37 - anon (05/22/2013) [-]

They focused on irrelevant features, not actual games.
User avatar #33 to #31 - aerius (05/22/2013) [-]
It's mostly all the other horrible **** . But the reason people are mad about the TV bit is that 90% of the press conference was about TV, not videogames.
User avatar #91 to #33 - mattmuch (05/22/2013) [-]
Love this argument.

The reason for a CONSOLE reveal is to show the console, showing games is for the companies that made the games to do at something like E3, they wanted to show the features for the Xbox which they did brilliantly.
User avatar #233 to #91 - aerius (05/23/2013) [-]
Except that E3 is being steadily moved away from by the sensible devs because it's become a bloated, corrupt gaming whorehouse that drains money from studios as they make extravagant, expensive displays to try and ply and bribe the press.
Games consoles should be ABOUT the games. Thus a console reveal should be ABOUT the games. This conference was something Microsoft wanted to show the world before E3 in order to attract more attention, and what they showed was a disgrace. If they had wanted, they could have waited for E3 for the reveal, but they didn't.
User avatar #34 to #33 - robertdylan (05/22/2013) [-]
I watched some of it and I guess that makes sense but I really didn't see any real problems. I think people are just too scared of change to appreciate the good features
User avatar #40 to #34 - aerius (05/22/2013) [-]
I love change, but only when it's a positive change. The Wii U has innovative features designed for gameplay, that's a positive change (it's not to everyone's tastes, but it's still positive). Moving away from gaming entirely is objectively a negative change for what should be a gaming system. Especially because the changes to the new xbox are mostly things that everyone can already do on their existing devices, like watching TV, netflix or skype; or they are things that have tried and failed before like the kinect.
User avatar #44 to #40 - robertdylan (05/22/2013) [-]
Okay, good point. But like I said, I just think that people are making a big deal out of something that's hurting nobody
#76 to #31 - anon (05/22/2013) [-]
I am rather happy to get my hands on an Xbox one. Its a blue-ray Player, it allows quick communication with your friends and has the power to play some powerful games. Yeah, Their emphasis was completely on games but if you read their website, it goes more into depth about what the gaming aspect of the system is. Half the people screaming out against it right now have only seen the reveal and have been going ape **** crazy because they didn't emphasize gaming, which is understandable. Despite that, I read all the information on the new system and I'm excited. I will have my Xbox One siting next to my Xbox 360 until they no longer make games for the 360. When they do release more games for the Xbox one, they are going to be stunning graphically. People are just too angry right now about all the other **** that Microsoft added to really look at the system for what it is. An All-In-One Media device.
User avatar #78 to #76 - robertdylan (05/22/2013) [-]
Exactly, they are marketing it as an "entertainment system" instead of a gaming system and everyone's in a tizzy because it's different. I do get why people are upset in terms of the release videos and all that but there are really no negative changes. People just want something new to complain about, I think.

I guess people tuned out when MS listed a bunch of games, then said they had 15 exclusives coming out but since this was a console reveal they were going to show the games in two ******* weeks at E3 which is a ******* VIDYA GAME conference. They fixed the D-pad on the controller, and added rumble to the trigger buttons. The console is on the same level of specs as the PS4, blu ray drive8 gigs of ram, etc. Kinect now has 1080p camera and can track your heart rate and recognize faces and voices. The added the tv functionality because obviously using voice and hand gesture control is more fun than a damn remote, and you can use other xbox features while you watch tv. It all looked pretty damn cool to me if it actually works the way they showed it working....
User avatar #160 to #158 - whycanticaps (05/22/2013) [-]
what was wrong with the D-pad?
User avatar #163 to #160 - drunkasaurus ONLINE (05/22/2013) [-]
Well I always had issues with it slipping since it was a circle instead of a cross. You know what I mean? Like if you meant to press up but hit the d-pad slightly to the right there was a chance it would register as a right because the 4 directions weren't seperated... Idk it's hard to explain
User avatar #164 to #163 - whycanticaps (05/22/2013) [-]
oh. I was just curious. a lot of people were not happy with the dpad, I just never used the thing haha

#159 to #158 - thefuckingpatsfan (05/22/2013) [-]
"same level of specs as the ps4" I highly doubt that, considering microsoft couldnt even put together a ******* pre-rendered cinematic trailer that looked better than actual gameplay demos from the ps4 press conference. Not to mention the xbox one gameplay of CoD ghosts looked pretty much exactly the same as xbox 360 graphics. Plus, console reveal. Console as in video game console. Made to play video games. Bought by gamers. Showing off exclusives that didnt appeal to only frat boys (ea sports games and CoD) should've been a priority for microsoft. This was something sony understood
User avatar #167 to #159 - drunkasaurus ONLINE (05/22/2013) [-]
Yeah, we already know they have the exact same processor, amount of ram, and use the same disk format. Maybe they have different graphics processors, but they're both supplied by the same company so I doubt it. Either way, hating on MS now is stupid until we see E3, they haven't ****** up anything yet, just been underwhelming at showing the **** you specifically wanted to see. It's worth noting that the mainstream media (forbes, cnn, news channels) all thought it was pretty cool, it's just everyone on social media has to hate on ******* ANYTHING these days. Get over yourself.
#170 to #167 - thefuckingpatsfan (05/22/2013) [-]
I don't expect the xbox one to not have any games, but that reveal was disappointing to say the least. mostly because they DID **** up pretty bad. Online mandatory, kinect needs to be plugged in and on for the xbox to work, you'll have to pay a fee for a used game. If it wasnt for all that and the presentation appealing towards soccer moms and frat ***** , i wouldn't have any qualms against the xbox one
User avatar #190 to #170 - drunkasaurus ONLINE (05/23/2013) [-]
Kinect is mandatory for the same reason a controller is mandatory, it's part of how you control the console, for instance you sign into your account with voice and face recognition. Sure, it's kind of unnescessary but its easier for developers if they know they can count on every user having kinect functionality. The other **** is DRM, same **** that's been going on for PC games the last few years, or have we all forgotten Asassin's Creed, SimCity, Diablo 3.... Not saying I agree with it but it was pretty inevitable
#197 to #190 - thefuckingpatsfan (05/23/2013) [-]
it's a gimmick. it's the same reason many gamers disliked the wii. it doesnt provide an option for people who just want to play a normal ******* game without having to jump through metaphorical hoops. it's catering to pretty much everyone but core gamers at this point. and just because that **** has happened on pc doesnt mean it's okay.

It's not really an issue. You literally just press a button a couple times.
User avatar #196 to #194 - brettyoke (05/23/2013) [-]
I figured this would come up. I could understand if it's something you had to do rarely, but doing it daily or even more often than that can become irksome. Imagine if you lost your TV remote and had to walk up to the TV every time you wanted to turn it on or off. It would get annoying.

It's just nice to not have to deal with it anymore, even if it is just a minor inconvenience.
User avatar #201 to #196 - imakejewburgers (05/23/2013) [-]
Can you really call it an inconvenience? You don't even have to go to your tv to do it. I really don't understand how it's annoying. It is as easy as changing the channel.

But you have to press it multiple times, and sometimes I skip it and have to go all the way around. And yes, I can call it an inconvenience, as it falls under the definition of an inconvenience.
User avatar #214 to #203 - taintedangel (05/23/2013) [-]
Sounds like you are just one really lazy ************ .

You still have to use the Kinect motion controls to cycle through the menus until you get to the tv option. You just traded pressing a few buttons to waving your arms around a few times.
User avatar #204 to #203 - imakejewburgers (05/23/2013) [-]
I don't know how to reply to that. Do you even get out of bed in the morning? You are literally moving your fingers a few times.
User avatar #211 to #204 - brettyoke (05/23/2013) [-]
Yes. It's an annoying, repeated action. I'm going to list POTENTIAL issues with having to press the tv/video button to watch TV/play games:
- Lost remote
- Dead remote
- Accidently skipping the setting you want
- Realizing either cable/game is unplugged/off
- Having to do it repeatedly if switching from game to TV often
- Miscellaneous

It's kind of like brushing your teeth, it's easy and not very time consuming, but doing it twice a day every day can become tiresome.
User avatar #216 to #211 - taintedangel (05/23/2013) [-]

I don't know what to say from here besides that I honestly wish I had a life where pressing a button is honestly considered an inconvenience.
User avatar #217 to #213 - brettyoke (05/23/2013) [-]
When I say inconvenience, I don't mean "OH MY GOSH HOLY **** HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GO ON THROUGH THIS?!"

I mean, "It would be nicer if I didn't have to do this all the time."

It's not about the difficulty of the action, it's about the repitition and pointlessness of it due to the added technology in the Xbox One.
#239 to #217 - iampowpow (05/23/2013) [-]
Okay but here's a thought, say if you switch your tv on. How does someone go about that? And if the channel needs to be changed to get to the Xbox One channel will that be controlled through the Xbox itself or do we still have to use remotes?
Honestly the times in which I'd be playing on my xbox I'm trying to be as quiet as I can for the neighbours sake.
In summary it just seems like Microsoft is trying to fix something that just isn't really broken, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what details emerge at E3.
