#18 to #2 - gastwoq (05/21/2013) [-]
some tribes in africa eat those because they honey has been treated by ants and is very nutritious.
also you can find them on some street markets.
#35 to #2 - anon (05/21/2013) [-]
People actually do eat them for the nectar.
User avatar #3 to #2 - doopleganger (05/21/2013) [-]
I'm pretty sure the aboriginals of Australia eat these all the time.

aborigines eat these as a sweet snack when they come across them
User avatar #19 to #13 - xelenger (05/21/2013) [-]
Not only aborigines.
Nature made them so they could collect the nectar for us. And then we eat them
User avatar #57 to #19 - bokkos (05/21/2013) [-]
No, they evolved to feed other ants in the nest.
User avatar #67 to #57 - xelenger (05/22/2013) [-]
Hm, that was meant to be a joke because, you know, they are great... like walking candy

But... ok

And other ants would come and kidnap the honeypot ants, dragging them by their jaws/legs

I can't remember if they keep them alive or they rip all their limbs off and just keep the part of the ant with the necter in it, I could go grab my book that has a **** tone of info on ants, but I am lazy

User avatar #55 to #29 - foelkera (05/21/2013) [-]
Sometimes they keep them as slaves but other times they tear apart the body and drink the nectar when there's no time to reeducate it

ants are ******* cool
