Premeditated:
Verb
Think out or plan (an action, esp. a crime) beforehand: "premeditated murder".

The original statement is retarded.

You really didn't have to go to all that effort to realize that the original post was retarded.

Everyone with car insurance is a pre-meditated car-wrecker. They decided purposefully getting into accidents was ok the second they bought car insurance.

>Implying people only buy guns to kill people.

If I were to buy a gun for self-defense, I wouldn't use it to kill my assailant. I'd more likely just shoot them in the legs or something.

#53 to #50 - lordaurion (05/19/2013) [-]
That's a good way to get sued for every dime you'll ever make for the rest of your life. If you don't shoot to kill then the court will think you weren't in any real danger.
User avatar #60 to #53 - jokeface ONLINE (05/19/2013) [-]
Oh I would gladly go to court for that.

"Why'd you shoot this man?"
"He was coming at me with a knife and intended to kill me."
"Nonsense, this man is clearly crippled."
"Yea, because I defended myself. Prior to that, he was very much able to walk."
"So you're saying you were in danger, so you adjusted the circumstances to remove yourself from danger?"
"Correct."
"Well I don't see a problem with that. You're free to go."

Depends on the state. Also you can use a gun to defend yourself without even firing it, because of the intimidation factor.
User avatar #71 to #50 - TwelveCharlie (05/20/2013) [-]
Trying to shoot someone in the leg is a good way to miss and get yourself killed, even if you hit them, shooting someone in the leg doesn't stop them from shooting you. Never shoot anyone unless you're justified in killing them, aim center mass, call 911, maybe they live, maybe they don't. but it's not your fault, in the words of Malcolm Reynolds, you didn't kill him, he killed his self, you just carried the bullet for a while.
User avatar #72 to #71 - jokeface ONLINE (05/20/2013) [-]
Okay, then I'll shoot my bullet into the barrel of the other guy's gun. Because I'm just that good.
/humor

And I respectfully disagree with that quote. If I'm the one firing the bullet, I take responsibility for the effect it has on its victim.
User avatar #73 to #72 - TwelveCharlie (05/20/2013) [-]
You wouldn't shoot him if he wasn't trying to hurt/kill you right? So it's his fault.
User avatar #74 to #73 - jokeface ONLINE (05/20/2013) [-]
Doesn't matter what his intentions are. I don't believe counter-murder is a valid solution.
User avatar #75 to #74 - TwelveCharlie (05/20/2013) [-]

Wow, do yourself a favor, don't ever buy a gun, someone will take it away from you, and use it on you.
User avatar #80 to #79 - jokeface ONLINE (05/20/2013) [-]
I plan on taking classes, man.
User avatar #81 to #80 - TwelveCharlie (05/20/2013) [-]
If you aren't willing to pull the trigger, just don't. If you take classes, your intructor will teach you to aim center mass, and will tell you not to get a gun if you aren't willing to. Most of the time, a criminal will run away just knowing you have a gun, but if he doesn't, your goal isn't to kill him, it's to stop him, and the most reliable way to do that is to put two or three rounds in his chest, will he die? Depends on where he's hit, and how fast he gets medical attention, but he won't kill you, or your spouse, or child.
User avatar #82 to #81 - jokeface ONLINE (05/20/2013) [-]
Okay, fair enough. As long as there's a non-lethal way to render him immobile long enough to restrain him.

A car's primary purpose is transportation. That's why they were made - fast, efficient transportation.
A gun's primary purpose is to... They were made to... I don't know a lot about guns so I can't say for sure. Care to fill in the blanks?
User avatar #37 to #25 - durkadurka (05/19/2013) [-]
Not everyone who buys a gun will use them to kill someone. In fact the vast majority will not.

That's the point. Not every analogy needs to be perfect.

so anyone taking martial arts intends to assault someone.

and shooting as a sport and hunting for sport are unheard of
User avatar #67 to #39 - cantfindausername (05/19/2013) [-]
I'm not denying the collection of guns or using them for sport/hunting (though I don't understand collecting them if you don't plan to use them for sport/hunting). The guns I'm concerned about are the ones you're not allowed to use for hunting or sport. I'm not a fan of people buying guns for the sake of having a gun.
Martial arts was used for combat, but then essentially rendered less useful due to advancements in war technology (and just technology). Now it's used (or supposed to be used) for self-defense. I've been to a few classes, and they always stress not to go beat up someone for the hell of it.
Guns for self-defense is something I don't understand, either. Hell, you have a chance of killing a ************ when you don't mean to. For self-defense, you could learn to buy/effectively use a non lethal weapon. You damage the other guy without killing him, and then you can be free to go.

Please, please, please correct me where I'm wrong. I wish to broaden my understanding and **** .
User avatar #68 to #67 - drtrousersnake (05/19/2013) [-]
I don't see how making guns illegal will impede criminals. Pot is outlawed federally, yet it is still prominent enough in society for stoners to be stock characters in pop culture.

But most proponents of gun restriction criticize that that argument as being the same as saying "because criminals will break laws and honest people will follow them, let's have no laws".

I honestly don't really have strong feelings on this issue and honestly I don't even own a gun despite the side I'm on.
User avatar #69 to #68 - cantfindausername (05/19/2013) [-]
It might stop over a long period of time. Some bad people buy guns because it's available, and are too lazy to go out and find a dealer of the sort. People caught with guns get their guns taken away and stuff.

If criminals try to break in a store, that's when someone uses their less than lethal weapons to stop them without killing them.

I don't really mind, either. But it's something I thought about recently.
User avatar #70 to #69 - drtrousersnake (05/19/2013) [-]
well were i live they are taking action and offering government refunds to people who turn in their weapons. The problem is that apparently a group of thugs hang out around the collection agency and write down the license plates of the people who go in. Afterwards they follow them home then break into their house. A lot of the laws backfire fast.

To ensure Survival, or to fight for what you believe in. You should never be afraid of the gun, a gun is just a tool, an extension of the self, and if you're truly that worried you will be shot, then take up a gun of your own and be prepared to fight for your own life, and the lives of others.
