the quieter and the longer I am in a room the louder the ringing gets always at the same pitch.
#25 to #13 - anon (05/18/2013) [-]
I'm sorry to ruin it for you, but that's not true. The reason why some people have tinnitus is because their tiny, delicate hairs in the inner ear is either broken or not straight. Whenever a soundwave of a specific frequence enters the ear, it will sound like tinnitus. Since this room is -9 decibels, there is no soundwaves, which means there is no tinnitus

holy **** , the fact that its in a vault means you would kill yourself with your own toxic fumes
User avatar #235 to #17 - srapture (05/19/2013) [-]
I'm pretty sure that crap lining the room absorbs sound waves, so the sound of the fart would not rebound off there to reach your ear. You would probably still hear it slightly because of the sound waves that have a direct path to your ear or diffract to reach it.
#174 to #17 - anon (05/19/2013) [-]
You wouldn't hear the fart, let alone your own voice. Negative sound means the room absorbs the noise. You can hear your blood flowing because it can't absorb the sound from inside of you.
User avatar #311 to #174 - spartusee (05/19/2013) [-]
You're dumb.
User avatar #337 to #311 - harshy (05/19/2013) [-]
saying "you're" doesn't make you smart
User avatar #341 to #337 - spartusee (05/19/2013) [-]
Well I'm dumb too. But the room wouldn't absorb sound, it would not allow any echo or ambient noise. Or maybe I'm dumb and it really dose eat sound. But I doubt it. And grammar shouldn't make me smart.
User avatar #343 to #341 - harshy (05/19/2013) [-]
allowing no echo = absorbing sound
User avatar #346 to #343 - spartusee (05/19/2013) [-]
But it would still reach you're ears if you made a sound wouldn't it?
User avatar #349 to #346 - harshy (05/19/2013) [-]
no it would not

i don't even know why you're making grammar mistakes now
User avatar #405 to #349 - kahandran (05/19/2013) [-]
Alright listen. The walls absorb the sound, but you can still hear the soundwaves from an object as it hits you directly before hitting the wall. Sound does not need to hit a wall first for you to hear it. Any noise produced in that room will be very quiet, because you are receiving fewer sound waves than you would normally, but you can certainly still hear.
User avatar #350 to #349 - spartusee (05/19/2013) [-]
Butt doesn't sound bend?

I live in a free country and can do what I want unless I can't.
User avatar #352 to #350 - harshy (05/19/2013) [-]
the room is -9 decibels
humans hear at 0 decibels
the walls are soundproof so that sound does not reflect
that is the main reason it is the quietest room in the world
User avatar #353 to #352 - spartusee (05/19/2013) [-]
But decibels work like, every ten decibels are twice as loud as ten before them. Do they? That would mean that 0 decibels is half as loud as 10. If I am correct.
User avatar #392 to #353 - hektoroftroy (05/19/2013) [-]
no, decibels are a logarithmic function. that's not how they work.
if we assign 0 decibels the value 1, then 10 decibels has a value of 10, and 20 decibels has a value of 100. Basically from the reference point of zero, each 10 decibels is 10 times the previous value. -9 decibels is close to having a value from that reference point of 0.13 meaning that you would still be able to still hear things, but almost no ambient noise would be heard, and your voice would be very quiet because you would only hear it through vibrations in your skull, not from the sound reflecting off any surfaces

TL;DR: You can hear things, decibels are logarithmic

After a while you start having audio hallucinations, caused by your brain freaking the **** out that the ears aren't receiving vibrations, and replacing it with sounds you've heard before, like in a dream: e.g. laughter, busy streets, what the brain thinks should be there.

I had that problem at my father's house as a child. My father would demand to know why my windows are wide open in November.

"Because your house is ******* silent at night! Do you have any idea how disturbing silence is? If I don't leave those windows open so I can hear the slightest wind through the trees, I hear drums all damn night. After two hours I finally realized those drums were my damn heartbeat!"
