One thing to clear up, it's not like Obama said he needed someone to hold an umbrella above his head someone from the State Dept. or internal affairs made it happen.
Also, the Marine Corps has always been the Presidents' "other bodyguards" not just the Secret Service.
This is just tradition for a Marine to be present because it involves the military in some way.

Actually, yes. Obama did ask for the umbrella

I actually heard this guy felt honored to hold the umbrella. Granted, it's not a HUGE deal, but what do I know, I'm an anon.

Any US Marine would be honored to be able to do this.

I have alot of respect for the marines, this pissed me off a little.

The Marines are the main guards for the Commander-In-Chief of the USA, a Sailor would have probably dropped that umbrella.

If it was a black marine and a white president the **** would hit the fan.

Its his Duty and he is probably really exited to serve the commander in chief.

Well I mean, Obama is the President.
I know the dude, or any Marines, but I imagine he didn't mind holding the umbrella.

it's extremely disrespectful, A you don't say a speech with an umbrella and if you do certainly not a marine. It's just rude is all. it's not as big a deal as everyone is making it but it was really dumb of him
User avatar #5 to #4 - neonblackkitty (05/19/2013) [-]
I'm sure he got a ton of **** from his rack mates.
look at his ******* face, he's not happy. Marines are NOT butlers

You are not Superman; Marines and fighter pilots take note.

Holding the unmbrella is only a violation if the marine is holding it for himself while in uniform. It doesnt allow him to salute properly. (although female marines are allowed to hold one under certian curms.)

For the record, the marines I know are only pissed because he's a corporal despite only having a firewatch ribbon and a GWOT

That's what I've heard.

I thought the problem was that holding an umbrella was a violation of uniform guidelines or something, in which case I understand the guy being annoyed.
