Corvo is approximately 146.72% more badass than the most badass assassin from the AC franchise. A friend of mine once told me that Dishonored looked like "a watered-down Assassin's Creed." I told him the situation was vice-versa, Assassin's Creed is a watered-down Dishonored.

Besides the fact that both Dishonored and AC are based off of Assassin's, they have nearly nothing alike. I don't see how you can compare them.

I legitimately don't understand all the hate that falls on Assasins Creed 3. Or why people found it so hard to enjoy it, when it is a genuinly enjoyable game.

Connor is a very nice change of pace for a protagonist. Aside from the assasins duties that he must abide just like Altair and Ezio, he has his own personal agenda. He must protect his land and his people's traditions. He must get revenge on the templars for causing the death on his mother and indirectly is single handedly responsible for the colony's victory during the revolutionary war. Where as all other games just focused around killing templars to save the world, 3 gave us a new purpose, to change history and to seek vengeance.

Yes the game was a tad glitchy, but I personally had no problems with the gameplay and didn't find it clucky at all. In fact I found it very smooth aside from the fact you couldn't manually aim the bow. All in all a solid game and one of my favorite protagonists to date. I mean, the guy was a ******* native american badass killing brits. How often do we get that in a video game!?
#102 to #35 - hairymetalhead (05/18/2013) [-]
yeh i don't think the game was awful either, but i felt ubisoft tried to cram a lot of different gameplay elements into the game in such a short time. most new features felt rushed. i thought the whole crafting and homestead were very confusing and unintuitive. Though they did do a pretty good job with the naval missions, that was the best new feature to the franchise. Connor was also a pretty poor character. i don't know if it was intended, but he came across as very stubborn and naive to me. So he didn't feel as big of a character as the other 2. Then again Altair's character got developed over 4 games and Ezio has 3 under his belt.

hopefully they polished all the features for 4, and they wont stuff the whole story of Edward Kenway into a single game. i think a decent pirate games is long overdue
#109 to #35 - Yojimbo (05/18/2013) [-]
Well, my only complaints were:

- LOTS of glitches. It got kinda annoying after awhile
- The ending wasn't really satisfying. IMO
- I wish I had rented the game instead of bought it because there really wasn't much to do after I beat it.

It was still way fun though, it was definitely worth playing! The story just wasn't what I was hoping for.
#113 to #35 - lordaurion (05/18/2013) [-]
No, it was horribly glitchy, sometimes to the point I had to reset the console. And his personality went back to the edgy as **** , I don't give a **** mentality of Altair without any of the advancement in personality Altair got. He was just a bad character. As far as gameplay, it was not smooth at all, combat was a ******* mess and so was the assassinations.

It was ******* impossible to get any real amount of money without spending literal hours waiting around the villa for caravans to go and come or to go hunting for hours. You couldn't do anything fun inside the towns because you'd always have 20 guards immediately jump on your ass if you weren't perfectly anonymous and stayed on the ground and didn't touch anything. Even if it didn't, you couldn't cross one side of town to the other without being on the ground 70% of the time anyway.

The funnest part of the game was the naval battles which were modeled after combat from an entirely different game from 10 years ago.

The pacing was god awful, hell we spent 1/3 of the game just going through the damn prologue.

It was just a bad game all around.
#119 to #35 - spiralcomet (05/18/2013) [-]
I don't mean any offense, Kyag, but I completely disagree. Assassin's Creed 3 was the worst game I played last year.

I had grown tired of Ezio as the face of the AC series, but missed him totally when introduced to the one-note, always angry, no motivation for he does Connor. Charles Lee, a villain who belongs in a comic book, kills Ezio's-I mean Connor's-family for no reason, prompting Connor to run off and don a white bedsheet because a talking cricket ball told him too. You never actually meet the Assassins in the game, so I like to think that Connor and his mentor are playing pretend. Connor immeadiately forgets about his objective to kill Charles Lee and shows up in every remotely well-known event from the time period, becoming the hero of every major battle. However, the game never provides reasons as to why Connor is in these places, helping the Patriots, doing what he does, there is no over-arching story besides Connor occasionally hinting at the fact that he eventually wants to kill Charles Lee.

People have claimed that, considering what gameplay has become in AC3, all the game is actually doing is telling a story. That story is nothing but a jumbled mess of non-interconnected go-nowhere plot threads that never has the balls the explore any of the ideas it hints at. It's a story that isn't worth telling.

The last sentence of your second paragraph is one of my primary greivances with the game. AC was about being an assassin. While Connor has the tools and skills to stalk, kill, and escape, this is the one thing the game does not let me do. The game does not but plunge me into minigames, resembling Wario more than AC. It's amazing how much of the game consists of walking from cutscene to cutscene. A guide for this game might read "Press left stick to win."

In my amateur review, I gave AC3 a 3/10 and said; "Assassin's Creed 3 is not a video game, it is a 12-hour-long tutorial for a game that Ubisoft forgot to make."
User avatar #156 to #119 - Kyag (05/18/2013) [-]
But what I think people fail to realize is that is exactly who Connor tries to be. An angry, naive and one tracked man who clings to somewhat i-realistic ideals because of what he has lived through. According to the game, Achilles failed to uphold the assassin order's standards and eventually this allowed the templars to overpower them and take control of pretty much anything. That is why we don't meet the assassins, there aren't any. Its you and Achilles rebuilding the order.

During my first play through, I thought just like you "Why is Connor doing everything BUT killing Charles Lee?" But the more I played it, the more I realized there is a reason for him doing all of that. He has all of these ideals of freedom and fair treatment that the patriot's cause resonates with him. And though he grows impatient at many times and struggles with not killing Lee whenever he has the shot, he grows to understand that there are matters bigger than him at hand. Remember, he not only wants to kill Lee, he also want to protect his people. Every mission, every mini game, every mayor battle you take part in is to achieve his wish of freedom for the people. He believes that if he aids the patriot's cause, he can protect his people from the british power that already once destroyed his village. And in doing so, he will also be able to avenge the order by taking down the Templars.

Is the ending disappointing, yes. But you can't deny that if you look at it from affar, it begins to make sense. Connor is doing all of this "side-questing" because it doesn't just satisfy at his goal of killing charles lee, he does so because he begins to understand it will weaken the templars and bring freedom to the masses and maybe protect his people. In my opinion, it tells a much more personal story than any of the other assassins, whose sole purpose it seems is simply save the world because its my job.
User avatar #168 to #156 - spiralcomet (05/18/2013) [-]
I stand by what I've said, but many of your points are fair. In my one and only playthrough, it's possible I missed the bit about the Assassin order being extinct somewhere in the several hours of largely passable exposition. I can't deny that freedom was a large running theme in the game. However, it seemed apparant to me through the context of the game that the Patriots were just as large of a threat to the Natives as the British. More than once, Connor expresses his distaste for the Patriots and continues to aid them. The Patriots have no reason for associating with Connor. The Founding Fathers, featured heavily in the promotion, made cameo appearances at best. The trailers and promotions hinted at a character arc and a story that wasn't there.

The biggest offense I noted was when Connor witnessed the signing of the Declaration, supposedly in case someone needed him to run down the street for snacks. He realizes that Charles Lee is sitting in the seat behind him, stands up, and might as well have said; "I have about seven different ways to kill you right now, and could easily escape, but I am not going to do it because we're only a few hours in."

I also meant what I said about the game not having any balls. It hints toward several controversial and edgy ideas, and then coyishly backs off. "The Founding Fathers are practically diefied in the United States, let's mention that Benjamin Franklin was a womanizer! Now let's never talk about it again. Then we'll hint at the hypocrisy of the freedom rhetoric of the Patriots while they own slaves, but only hint at it!" It's like the writers had a few interesting things to say but were neutered by the development team who wanted to dodge bad media exposure.

Despite my greivances with the story and presentation, most of my complaints apply to the gameplay of Assassin's Creed 3. I wasn't expecting an excellent narrative since storytelling has never been the franchise's strong point.

I found it to be a dull experience with fairly slow pacing. The combat, among other game-play mechanics, remains unchanged. I would like to see the series actually improve upon itself, not just add ship battles and the like.

Also, that menu for selecting weapons is really ******* clunky, as is the way to aim the guns.
User avatar #49 to #44 - Kyag (05/18/2013) [-]
I understand your issue with the pacing. But that has more to do with the creators wanting to fill it with as much content, which in turn made for a more drawn out game. While the combat itself is pretty much the same as the rest of the series, I think its one of those "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" situations.

But I do feel the weapon select menu problem, but you get used to it.

User avatar #50 to #35 - funnyjunkianonetwo (05/18/2013) [-]
I didn't like it because it unnecessarily changed the health system, and combat was too easy. It was literally just pick up a musket, shoot someone with a musket, one hit kill, take their loaded musket, rinse and repeat. I didn't really like the setting either. Opinions opinions.
User avatar #78 to #50 - alstorp (05/18/2013) [-]

Gonna sound like a butthurt fan here, but two things:

1. He essentially won the war for the Colonists while challenging and killing some big names on both sides. He also created his own small community where he helped people find love, helped people with their businesses and protected everyone from harm.

2. Connor gets too much flack for being sad most of the time. The guy watched his mom die, his people suffer, his dad cause the suffering and constantly has everyone berates him for his ideals. Being one of the few Assassins left and then later being rejected by his own people, I'm surprised he doesn't just totally remain silent throughout the entire game. But no, God forbid there is an assassin who's not a total dick or just plan overconfident.

Sadly I don't really feel Connor was that bad of a protagonist, and that the story was alright.

And I also don't feel that Black Flag, which isn't even out yet. does anybody else think it's a little soon to release another big assassin's creed couldn't they expand on the third just a little more and then wait a couple years before releasing the next one
User avatar #93 to #91 - wtf man (05/18/2013) [-]
it would be really cool if connor was somehow involved in the french revolution
#95 to #91 - sagedivinity (05/18/2013) [-]
I think the 3rd was generally a lot of people least favorite Assassins Creed and Ubisoft does release a new one every year.
User avatar #97 to #95 - blarghagh ONLINE (05/18/2013) [-]
yeah but I mean, why not wait a little bit, maybe like a 2 or 3 years, really build up a new game and then release it, I mean I understand that they have different companies working on the games but I mean it's way too early for another big assassin's creed, it needs like a brotherhood or revelations side story before it should go onto 4.
User avatar #98 to #97 - sagedivinity (05/18/2013) [-]
I see what you're saying, maybe they'll do that with black flag
User avatar #100 to #98 - blarghagh ONLINE (05/18/2013) [-]
I think the franchise is kind of bust and they don't really need to make any more games. I mean with Desmond dead it's kind of pointless to continue the series
User avatar #103 to #100 - sagedivinity (05/18/2013) [-]
I think Abstergo improved the animus so that anyone can use it to access the memories of anyone regardless of wether or not they are related to the avatar.

But yea Desmond's story was weak.
User avatar #105 to #103 - blarghagh ONLINE (05/18/2013) [-]
I think assassin's creed 4 you just play as the assassin there's nobody controlling them or anything.
#106 to #105 - sagedivinity (05/18/2013) [-]
Oh yea I think I remember hearing that from an IGN interview or something.

Maybe they'll just keep making games for the fun of it now rather than yt ring to link together ancestors and an awkward plot.

Now I have high hopes for the AC series
User avatar #107 to #106 - blarghagh ONLINE (05/18/2013) [-]
that would be cool but sooner or later they are going to run out of ideas
#110 to #107 - sagedivinity (05/18/2013) [-]
Yea and then I might finally get a a current or next gen. Prince of Persia
User avatar #112 to #110 - blarghagh ONLINE (05/18/2013) [-]
there is a current gen prince of persia although the name eludes me at the moment. It was a cell shade game with nolan north as the main voice actor
#116 to #112 - sagedivinity (05/18/2013) [-]
This one, I hated this one. It was too much of a stretch from the previous games. I know the gameplay was changed quite a bit between sands of time, warrior within, and two thrones, but this one 's gameplay didn't do it for me.

I think it was simp,y called Prince of Persia because it was a reboot of the franchise.
User avatar #117 to #116 - blarghagh ONLINE (05/18/2013) [-]
that's probably the reason I never got into the PofP franchise is because I started with this game and got bored 20 minutes in
User avatar #118 to #117 - sagedivinity (05/18/2013) [-]
That one was pretty bad in my option but I can't deny that the previous ones have aged quite a bit over the years which is why I wanted another.

I think Ubisoft was working on a new prince of persia project called Osiris, but it was canceled.

The only real ubisoft title i'm looking forward too in the future is Watch Dogs, it looks pretty awesome.

Can't wait
User avatar #126 to #122 - blarghagh ONLINE (05/18/2013) [-]
The only thing I don't understand it the release over current gen and future gen consoles but I guess they did that when they released the ps3, they still made games for ps2 that were currently on ps3
User avatar #132 to #126 - sagedivinity (05/18/2013) [-]
Yea I think that's for the people who plan to wait for the holidays to get next-gen consoles (like myself). They probably want the game to be as available as possible. I've already heard some people say that they will get the game for current gen consoles and later next-gen consoles when they decide to but those and that just means more money to Ubisoft.
User avatar #134 to #132 - blarghagh ONLINE (05/18/2013) [-]
good for them, ubisoft is actually a pretty decent publisher, EA is too they just get a lot more flak for some reason
User avatar #163 to #134 - sagedivinity (05/18/2013) [-]
I like Ubisoft and I don't think EA deserves worst company in the US. There are far worse or maybe I just don't get the hate because I've never been interested in anything EA makes. Plus they seem to want to fix their problems they are doing away with online passes.
User avatar #165 to #163 - blarghagh ONLINE (05/18/2013) [-]
yeah EA is not bad at all, they publish decent games even though they did draw out the dlc for battlefield 3 it was still a great game.

Add "And a ******** of guards and soldiers" to every single one.

I guess that's why it isn't used as a comparison, equal values null themselves.
