You and 4 others like this.
We didn' t fight our way to the top of the food chain, we hung on the coat tails
of others who manipulated and abused their way to exploit a hormone enhanced, inbred,
over bred, super herd of captive mutants, which we get someone else to hack to bits so that
we can gnaw on bits of their body flesh and tissue.

Animals (and humans) are always looking for more and better food. In nature, getting more and better food can be done by becoming stronger and/or choosing good hunting tactics.

Humans, however, have come to a point in evolution where we are fully aware of our surroundings, and have a good thinking capacity. So we use our brains to get ourselves more and better food.

Both animal and human are willing to do whatever it takes to get a filled belly, so we do it. In my opinion, this is just a part in our natural, cultural and technological evolution.

Why do we have to do something just because we think it is how things are? Can't we decide for ourselves?

Of course, we've all got free will. I'm just saying it how it is. I've got no problem if somebody says that they won't eat meat.

Once again the vegan makes eating meat and being at the top of the chain seem more badass. "Gnaw nastily on bits of body flesh and tissue"? This makes me hungry
#89 - Ulmer (05/18/2013) [-]
Everytime a vegan tries to make meat eating sound disgusting, it just comes out as one of the most ******* metal things I've ever heard and makes eating meat that much more awesome.

I do believe they need to rethink their strategy.

If it makes you feel any better, I kill the Super Mutants too

I'm not a vegan, nor am I a vegetarian, but I do agree that factory farming is awful.
If regularly farmed meat weren't so hard to find and expensive nowadays, I'd try to eat just that.
It's not even that the animals are being killed, in fact, most farm animals don't mind being killed - because they know it's better than being killed in the wild.
It's like some weird ass farm animal instinct that tells them that being fed, protected, and taken care of but eventually being killed is better than taking their chances in the wild.
It's factory farming that pumps animals full of steroids and growth hormones. What they do in the factory farms are absolutely dreadful.
Like I said, not a vegan or vegetarian, just don't agree with factory farming.

Move to Denmark.

As far as I know, all the meat you can buy in the supermarkets comes from farm animals, and not factory animals.

i'm a vegetarian but i dont give a **** what other people eat, you want bacon? go ahead, you want a double bacon burger with cheese? go ahead, just dont use the "we didn't get to the top of the foodchain to be vegetarians" thing, thats like watching your friend do something amazing and saying "look what we did" if you have to use that say they not we

Another comparison is how sports fans say "we won" after watching a game.
#83 to #78 - darksideofthebeast (05/18/2013) [-]
That's just because it's their home team
I say it all the time when my team wins.
Or I just say steelers won.
Even though I don't really watch sports in general.
User avatar #87 to #83 - mutzaki ONLINE (05/18/2013) [-]
I hate it when sports fans shout out about how they won, as if it's any kind of accomplishment for them.

Yeah, exactly.
User avatar #95 to #94 - darksideofthebeast (05/18/2013) [-]
So why do you get mad when people support their team?
User avatar #101 to #95 - mutzaki ONLINE (05/18/2013) [-]
Why do people freak out over grown men doing their overpayed jobs, and then scream about it like it has any value? I know, I know, because they think it's fun, and they like the comradery and feeling like they belong to a group and all that, but that's how I see it.
User avatar #103 to #101 - darksideofthebeast (05/18/2013) [-]
no...
Not really..
what they get paid is irrelevant.
It's the love for the game that matters.
User avatar #106 to #103 - mutzaki ONLINE (05/18/2013) [-]
And it's my opinion that it's ridiculous, especially with how some fans make it seem like it's anyone but the players' accomplishments.

I agree with you on that.

If you want to feed 7 billion people, mass farming and genetic modification to increase production is crucial. Deal with it.

In fact, genetic modification of foods has been going on since the agricultural revolution. Farmers breed the good stuff and dispose of the bad stuff. It's man-made evolution.
#52 to #7 - anon (05/18/2013) [-]
breeding is not the same as genetic modification or genetic engineering, because there are more control systems involved in the nucleus.

The other thing is, that those genetical engineered plants don't produce more, but can survive round-up (herbicide, insecticide and fungicide combined). The round-up is a product of the same company that offers the seeds.

Those seeds are hybrids, so you can forget about keeping a part of crop to use them as seeds for next year. It's like apple for farmers, you are bound to buy those seeds next year again, because destroyed their fauna in the soil to such extent with the round-up, that nothing else will grow good the next year.

I don't think that engineered plants have no future. But i wouldn't trust a company like Novartis (and their little sister Monsanto) even a little bit. Their goal isn't the production of enough food in good quality, but simply making money (which they do good).

#66 - anon (05/18/2013) [-]
Well, not that I have enough self-control to not eat meat, but meat production IS pretty ******* awful

Cows are kept crowded in pens, they stand up to their knees in an ocean of cow **** that is never cleaned
They're fed corn instead of grass since it's cheaper, corn damages their bodies so they have to be pumped full of drugs that counteract the stomach problems
Sometimes they have to cut a hole in the cows neck to let it breath
Chickens are kept in foot by foot containers, tubes connected to collect eggs, until they're ready to be eaten
Most food production companies don't actually pass the health and safety regulations, they just pay off the fines for the violations and keep doing it because it's cheaper to do that than change
Some cows are bred to be so fat their legs break

Course, vegetable production is pretty bad too with all the pesticides and chemicals
#68 to #66 - anon (05/18/2013) [-]
(extra!) With growth hormones, it takes a calf 2-4 years to fully mature, and 30% of chickens in chicken farms die
User avatar #69 to #66 - nucularwar (05/18/2013) [-]
I agree with this. We raise animals for the sole purpose of eating them later, the least we could do is make them comfortable before they die.
User avatar #62 - itrooztrooperdown (05/18/2013) [-]
Well, you don't have to be a vegan to state the truth... for exemple I myself could of said all of that before biting in that sexy burger. Yes, all the meat is fake nowadays, held in weird conditions and fed hormones and other unhealty stuff, but does that make it less tastier? Maybe. but I can't afford anthing else and I love eating ******* meat.

i'm only vegetarian because i have the luxury of not having to eat animals and since personally i don't want to eat things that have to be killed then i just choose not to. but if i was stranded on a desert island or something, yea i'd eat rats or fish whatever else i could find. i'm fortunate enough to live where it's possible to survive without meat so i take advantage of that. i really don't give a **** if other people eat meat, it doesn't bother me and i'm not gonna try and convert you or whatever. it's just my personal choice. personally i love meat and miss it a lot, just not the fact that an animal has to be killed to obtain it.

And even if you don't buy that juicy steak the animal that that juicy steak came from is still dead. "Waste not want not" eat the meat so they at least died for a purpose. Martyr meat.
#63 to #61 - goodcheese (05/18/2013) [-]
but it's supply and demand. it's not like we're in a communist country and everybody gets their slab of meat for the week and you either eat it or goes bad. i'm just one less consumer purchasing any meat products. maybe it won't make a huge difference but i'd prefer to eat food that wasn't the result of an animal dying. even if it is goddamned delicious.

don't get me wrong, i have nothing against vegitarians, i just find the idea too silly for myself to follow.
i personally only eat ecological meat, free roaming chickens and such, but that is more because of how it affects my own health than a concern for the animals.

I'm a vegan, but became one because of health issues, which were pretty much resolved because of the vegan diet, and vegans thinking they stand on moral high ground talking down to everyone saying they're cruel, don't make anyone want to even consider being a vegan because of its high potential of making you a cunt.
