I don't find Ansari that funny. He's sort of like Dane Cook, in that a lot of his humour is drawn from yelling and just sounding ridiculous as opposed to his material being actually funny.

sure, but this is from Parks and Recreation, where his lines can be hilarious!

probably because he didn't write them

He doesn't even yell.

I respectively disagree. While he may share the yelling similarity with Dane Cook (you'd be surprised how many comedians do that) it's not the extent of Cook, not to mention, to me, his material seems to be much better particularly his stories that his comedy comes from. In my opinion, Cook is that friend in the group who thinks they're hilarious and takes 20 minutes to tell a fairly linear story, Aziz seems to get directly to the point with extra jokes sprinkled in. Besides, not all of his jokes contain yelling. EX. Both Harris stories, hotel luxury linens, Craig's list, etc.

I reckon to any form of comedy, charisma is key in conjunction to the material itself. I'm good at making people laugh over the internet but if I were to recite jokes in real life, I just simply can't produce the same sort of impact with my raspy voice and occasional stuttering.

just say "and not a single **** was given that day" in a deep voice. gets laughs all the time

I don't have a deep voice. I have a raspy high pitched voice that kinda sounds like a 7 year old

He's funny on Parks and Rec though, he's not like that in Parks and Rec.

I love him in parks and rec some of the time, the rest of the time is him singing/talking/making random noises in a funny way, and then I'd say it's pretty much like he said. It's not always, but it definitely happens.
User avatar #11 to #10 - esmebuffay (05/17/2013) [-]
He does make noises sometimes, probably more now than he used to when I think about it.
User avatar #12 to #11 - ThpiderMan (05/17/2013) [-]
Exactly. The first couple of seasons he was fine then the entertainment 720 arc really made him act silly, and he started doing that damned nasally voice quite often and he's pretty much kept with some of his most annoying mannerisms since. I'm not talking about characteristics developed by the writers btw, I'm talking specifically Ansari's style of acting/speaking that some people find funny. I haven't watched anything since the wedding episode so I'm a bit behind though.

I think it probably has to do with his stand up taking off so the writers either gave him more stuff that was like his stand up or they let him do more stuff that was like his stand up (I think alot of the show's dialog is ad-libbed). But even if you find Tom annoying you should catch up because the rest of the character are still great, and the season ended with a big surprise, I won't spoil it for you by giving any hints but it sets up something that will likely be very funny for next season.

I'm not very fond of this guy, he "seems" like an arrogant asshole in a lot of his comedy.
