That is not a battleship, a battleship got big guns, looks sexy as **** and is compleatly useless in actual naval combat.

Never underestimate the power of 4 tons of dakka flying towards your enemy. Especially when they can only grin and bear it.

They did reactivate the Iowa class battleships in the 80s and early 90s, they gave them harpoon and tomahawk missiles to increase attack range and for a while they where a big part of the balance of power with the USSR, but the Clinton DJ 4DM1Nistration downsized the navy and the battleships were the first to go.

Because Aircraft from a Carrier can sink it while hundreds of miles away while the Battleship only has a range on its guns of ~25 miles. Plus Cruise Missiles from Cruisers and Destroyers can attack from even further. The only point to a Battleship is laying down fire on a Beach, which can be done by other Naval Craft.

I do believe they've been phased out of most modern navies. Cruise missiles and the like will do that to something that relies on old-fashioned ballistic artillery. They just can't keep up with modern tactics and technology (like aircraft carriers and long-range ballistic missiles and ultraquiet submarines and the like), I suppose.

Because the concept of a "Battleship" with big, unguided guns is obsolete, as opposed to a "Destroyer", which is outfitted with guided missiles and is networked to function in conjunction with a carrier battle group.
