I like the fact that if one attack fails against them (like a glancing blow from a gun) then they upgrade and are pretty much immune from those guns anymore

Daleks look like the biggest joke of an enemy, looks like you could just kick them over and they couldnt get up. They also look that they move at about 0.5miles per hour

Anyone who watches this show prove me wrong
User avatar #76 to #32 - zzforrest ONLINE (05/15/2013) [-]
It is very hard to kill daleks as they have a force field which disintegrates bullets and blocks lasers. They move slow mostly, but can also move very fast sometimes. Their lasers have the accuracy of a trained sniper at any distance within seconds of seeing a target. Even though 1 dalek is not very dangerous, if they have just 2 they essentially could wipe out the human race.
#100 to #32 - anon (05/15/2013) [-]
Their lasers are also electricity based so it can screw over all the things in a flood.
But if you knock them over, how would they get up?
Their rockets are on their bottom, and their eyestalks look weak to me.
User avatar #127 to #32 - quinos (05/15/2013) [-]
The only way to really damage a Dalek with our conventional weapons would be to concentrate several missiles/tank shells at it's eye stock and even then that's iffy. As proven in Asylum of The Daleks (Yes a ******* dalek crazyhouse) they're still dangerous mentally AND physically damaged as well, trust me I didn't know what the big deal was at first either. Till I saw the show.
#224 to #32 - rockerforlife (05/16/2013) [-]
It's hard to knock them over when they about weigh a thousand tons. Also they're not made of aluminum, they're pretty hardcore. Their exterior is impenetrable to just about any weapon and totally indestructible. They have superior weapons attached to their bodies and they're also smart and incredibly cruel with a voice that will make you shiver. Also they can fly, pretty fast if they want to too.

tl;dr, made of futuretech, flies, indestructible.

The only way a (New) dalek can be killed, is by a giant ******* laser gun, or it decides to self-destruct, and that's a choice only after it's mission (Which is normally involving killing everyone ranging from an underground bunker, to an entire ******* planet) is complete. plus, yeah, as therealpokemon said, they can fly, have a one-shot death laser that liquefies all internal organs, vital or otherwise, it's suction cup is capable of extracting information from any living organic, the armour casing is self-healing, it emits a gravitational field that slows projectiles (Such as bullets) to such a speed that it basically pings against them. Oh, and the actual dalek, is a tentacle thing that has only one 'emotion' : Hate.

So yeah... very wrong, my friend.

Ok, potential new Dr. Who fan here.

I have never even watched an episode, though I've heard it is very good. I am intimidated by how many episodes there are, though, and I have never been a huge fan of movies or shows that came out before the 80s.

But the new Dr. Who looks neat....except I have no idea what it's about, other than a time travelling alien who flies around in a phone booth.

Without spoilers, can someone tell me what this show is about and how/why it's so interesting and popular?

Hmm starting at the 9th doctor the stories make you think. And some are just creepy and leave you in suspense.
User avatar #142 to #118 - ilovehitler (05/15/2013) [-]
First, the humor. The humor in the show can, and is, anywhere from your basic slapstick humor, such as above, to a more subtle humor. The main character, The Doctor, regenerates whenever he's supposed to die, and the entire humor style then changes.
Second, the characters. The main characters and side characters are changing every while, and that just brings more interest into it. Instead of getting to know just one character and enjoying them, you'll get dozens.
Thirdly, the emotions. It can be funny, like I said above, or it can be extremely sad, or drama filled. It can quickly go from hilarity to nail biting drama.

That's what I think, anyways.
User avatar #184 to #118 - tigersstripes (05/15/2013) [-]
The hardcore who fans don't even know what is so good about it. It just is, and be careful, some, with week willpower....can't. ever. stop.
Basically, the Doctor flies around space and time with his companion, saving the humans from whatever naive mess they have gotten them selves in to this time. Each season has a recurring plot that it ends up seeming like every episode has affected, even if you didn't know it then. The time thing can get rather confusing though.....
#148 to #118 - faithrider (05/15/2013) [-]
the plot and character development.
first we'll start with the plot:
the plot has so many twists that rarely is it ever predictable what happened to make things go wrong, or to indicate how the doctor plans to fix it. part of the point of the show is that the time travel cause mass confusion so that nothing is as it seems until the end of that specific storyline. (watching Doctor who has helped me tag along with the plot of other shows, such as heroes which are also dependent on time traveling to support the plot)
another part of the plot is the humour (as explained by previous peoples) but more than that is the feely parts of the show. the feely parts are part of the character development as well.

second the character development:
1st example, the separate doctors. there are 11 overall doctors rigth now. none of them exactly like any other one, the doctor can regenerate when he dies, under the right circumstances. if you watch long enough some doctor's "quirks" make them similar to older doctors (e.g. the 10th doctor is very similar in attitude and style to the 5th doctor)

2nd the companions
the only companion that did not have nearly as much development initially was Martha. but she did receive a bit more later in the series. each one has a huge back story as to how they met the doctor, and what choices they made.

the character development is so good that when characters leave the show many including myself in some cases, cry and mourn the loss.
