am I the only one who is getting more tired of people getting mad at religion bashing, then the actual religion bashing itself?

No. Out of 7 billion other people in the world, I'm sure there are others who enjoys the right to freely bash others.

User avatar #75 to #24 - furyofthestorm (05/15/2013) [-]
They are still considered aliens. People just rever them as gods.
Thor points this out in his movie.
So saying "they are gods" is like a reference to the fact that they are strong as **** .

Thor and Loki. Nordic gods. Sons of Odin.

Go play Age of Mythology.
User avatar #58 to #30 - ivoryhammer (05/14/2013) [-]
I know they're Nordic gods, I studied mythology, I'm saying the comics made them aliens.
User avatar #37 to #30 - simoie (05/14/2013) [-]
Loki was actually not the brother of Thor. Loki became bloodbrothers with Odin, thus making him "Blood uncle" (i know that sounds retarded) to Thor.
User avatar #31 to #30 - reican (05/14/2013) [-]
also, Loki never was related to Frost Giants that more marvel BS. he had made allegiances with Hel.
#38 to #31 - icametocomment (05/14/2013) [-]
I thought Hel was his daughter. He got it on with a giantess and she gave birth to a giant wolf, a giant snake, and Hel.

And then there was that time with the horse...
User avatar #50 to #38 - reican (05/14/2013) [-]
No Hel is the Godess of the Norse underworld. She is supposedly as old as Odin. the Frost giants (Jotnes) are merely minions of her.

Either one's good with me. I love old mythology.

The Greek gods tick me off though. They're either whores, manwhores, don't care about humans, or emo. Except for Hestia. She's cool.

If it is fair to call the gods of Odinist non-gods, then why isn't it fair to call any other religion's gods non-gods?

I'm not an atheist, nor an Odinist, I'm just in a bad mood and it's kinda late at night...
User avatar #23 to #11 - IamSofaKingdom (05/14/2013) [-]
in general or for marvel? Marvel explained that those who were made into norse mythology were aliens and myths were just perpetrated about them due to the inhuman abilities.

If you mean actual mythology I am afraid I don't know many details on them (although it is my favorite group of god myths) because it doesn't come up in literature as much as greek. I would guess it is because some of the gods have come from men? completely random guess.

Norse gods are based around legends of real world people... well at least some.

Because currently they are the majority. If there is one constant in the mankind it's that religions die off eventually and someday there may be Christian Mythology studies, perhaps not. It's all perceptual in the long run, all I know is the stories of Odin and his kin are a lot more entertaining than the ones about Jesus or Muhammad.
User avatar #21 to #19 - beerterror (05/14/2013) [-]
It's Svantevit more then Svetovid I think, although the play of words is untranslatable really, since Świętowit really means a "most holy one"

Also, your point isn't based on anything real - the problem is you take religion as a mythology (like the guy from the quote), when the strength of it lies in philosophy.

I understand that most religious groups now present something incredibly stupid, sometimes, like Islam, even criminal, but making fun of contradictions between verses in the bible is one thing, trying to prove wrong the Proof by St. Aselm of Canterbury is another thing.
User avatar #22 to #21 - trimageryan (05/14/2013) [-]
I completely understand the idea of it being based of the philosophic teachings of the characters of the religion but it is, by definition, a mythology (Being a set of stories or beliefs about a particular person, institution, or situation, esp. when exaggerated or fictitious.)

The Greeks and the Egyptians had just as rich and deep philosophies in their mythology but that doesn't make them prevail either.
User avatar #79 to #22 - beerterror (05/15/2013) [-]
You don't really know much about philosophy, do you? Greeks, sure, but only religion it had anything to do was orfic cult, and that's only for Pythagoreans and late Plato.

The only reason christianity contains philosophy is because they merged with post-hellenic movements, such as neo-platonism, and later of course they discovered the whole Corpus Aristotelica. Tell me please how Egyptians were working on Categories and formal logic.
