Why is everyone so afraid of spiders? My Chaco Golden Knee wouldn't hurt a fly(literally, I have to buy flies pre-dead because he won't kill them). Pic semi-related, not my spider but I can post if anyone wants.

Laptop is updating right now, I'll post this, only I have on my phone though. I'll try to remember to post a few tomorrow.

You know.. Seeing your picture I'm beginning to think it's specifically how leggy a spider is that freaks me out. I am completely phobic of any spider larger than a quarter but that spider is adorable. Makes me wonder why it's only spiders though when other leggy animals like giraffes are a-ok in my book.
User avatar #80 to #62 - mizzycupcakes (05/14/2013) [-]
perhaps because giraffes aren't venomous and fanged.
User avatar #98 to #80 - frenetic (05/14/2013) [-]
Oddly enough I've never actually been afraid of being bitten by them, just the look of them.
User avatar #107 to #98 - mizzycupcakes (05/14/2013) [-]
Maybe it stems from the actual being bitten part? I used to live in florida where you would find spiders as big as your head just chillin out in grubby backyards. And once I got bit by a quarter sized spider and it left a huge huge red bump on my wrist that freaked my school nurse out. They thought I was going to have to go to the hospital. Since then i've never been able to view a spider as spider bro v.v
User avatar #108 to #107 - frenetic (05/14/2013) [-]
Nah bug bites don't faze me. Irritate, yes, but not fear. I have a high pain tolerance and have been bitten/stung by just about every bug in my area. Besides fear of being bitten doesn't account for daddy long legs since they can't.
User avatar #109 to #108 - mizzycupcakes (05/14/2013) [-]
True. Idk then. xD Your theory has some merit though

How much does a pet spider like that cost?
User avatar #32 to #31 - deathcampforjewtie (05/14/2013) [-]
Mine ran about ninety, under one hundred ten with shipping costs, and about two hundred for a standard setup, although I ended up paying an extra fifty for a few extra features.
User avatar #50 to #20 - botherandbefuddle (05/14/2013) [-]
I agree, I don't mind spiders as I find them rather cute but everyone is different.

Spiders won't bother me, at all. But snakes.. Snakes make me run a thousand miles in the other direction.

User avatar #37 to #20 - tigersstripes (05/14/2013) [-]
I don't have (as much) of a problem with pet ones, but i don't want wild and possibly aggressive or (worst part) poisonous spiders running around free in my house. Just as you wouldn't want a feral cat or dog running around in your house where it could bite you and give you a disease, like rabies.
Plus, something about the way they move is what scares people. They have completely different joints than humans and their movement pattern is odd. So they are so..alien it can be scary.
User avatar #65 to #37 - zorororonoa (05/14/2013) [-]
Exactly, one of my friends has a pet spider, and I've held it and it has crawled on my before, and I'm not scared of it. But when a wild one is in my house, hell no, time to burn it.

Feeding on the souls of the innocent, most likely.
Spiderman has a monopoly on the arachnid dance market.

Spiders are cute. Especially jumping spiders.
#9 to #8 - John Cena (05/13/2013) [-]
jumping spiders are one of the few insects and bugs capable of seeing red.

They're so cute you can play with them with laser pointers
#12 to #9 - kevinator (05/13/2013) [-]
Jumping Spiders will actually attach to a owner, I own a few and they will literally jump on my hand, to jump from fingers to fingers and go back and forth between them, their way of fun I suppose.

They don't look all that bad either. Sometimes they wear droplets as hats, as in this picture!

Oh, and watch vids of them. Pictures might be somewhat gross at times, but when you see them MOVE you'll see just how cute they can be!

I'm visiting my family in OK right now. I was out doing some exercises in the grass. I looked over to see a rather large wolf spider running at me from across the yard. I ran inside and proceeded to cry for two hours.

then the little ****** ran in front of my lawnmower and I chopped him to pieces

This type of thing happened to me TWICE. Once as a child I saw grass twitching and reached down to grab what I thought would be a frog or toad but NOPE it's a huge spider the size of an acorn. My hand was poised not 5 inches away from picking it up before I screamed at the top of my lungs and jumped about 3 feet in the air.
The other time was just a few weeks ago I saw the cat playing with a ball of string. Concerned he would choke on it I picked it up only to feel a still warm nickel sized dead spider body betwixt my fingers.
User avatar #72 to #60 - deemetaldragon (05/14/2013) [-]
******* grabbed what I thought was a beanie baby only to find out it was a dead monitor lizard... (the blood was on the other side)
